I was rudely awakened by a drumming NORTHERN FLICKER on my bedroom wall this
morning. He was quickly exonerated when the next bird I heard out the window
was a singing NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH. And as soon as I stepped outside to track
down the waterthrush, a NORTHERN PARULA started to sing. Not a

Gregory Canyon just west of Boulder at the end of Baseline Road was quite

Hi Everyone--
I had a pleasant if not overwhelmingly birdy morning at Crow Valley, the WCR
96 birding trail, and Norma's Grove today 5/5. At Crow Valley, there were
few migrants in evidence: several montane Hermit Thrushes, an Orange-crowned
Warbler. I had one Chestnut-collared Longspur teed up
Today and on 5/4, I have had 1, male Rose-breasted Grosbeak in my yd. Also

Checked out one of my fav birding spots this afternoon - the east side
of White Ranch Open Space just north of Golden. It was very very
quiet. Maybe it's early, maybe it's a slow migration, I don't know,
but there was very little bird activity. I did hear a couple of
lazuli buntings, and saw
COBirders,
I led the second field trip for my Birding for Beginners class today in the
south half of Fountain Creek Regional Park from 7-11 a..m. this morning
Birding was very, very slow for a May 5 date in this park. We only saw

Eric Zorawowicz and I had a male rose-breasted grosbeak and a female hooded
warbler below the CU Field House along Boulder Creek at about 7:30 this
morning. They were near the street address of 2050 Athens St.

Hi CoBirders
An adult American Dipper and three chicks were seen just east of Lowell
Blvd(Adams Co.) today by Peggy Gonder and myself. We were able to comfirm
the three chicks in the nest. I ended the morning with 27 species at Lowell
Ponds(Adams Co). Notable birds, to me, were: Wood , Duck, a
Hello, Birders.
Hannah and I stopped by Sale Lake, Boulder County, this mid-afternoon,
Saturday, May 5th, and we saw a cooperative, out-in-the-open adult Harris's
Sparrow. The bird was near the northeast shore, in the back yard of the last
house on the south side of Island Drive. Coordinates:
Todd Deininger and I set out early this morning to bird our way to Lamar. 14
hours later we arrived, so as you might expect the birding was pretty good and
the weather, though hot and sunny was not overly windy making for good birding.
Our first notable stop was in Kit Carson (Cheyenne County)
Hi Cobirders,
Slow at Chico Basin Ranch today. One Ovenbird (FOS) at 730, couple of Brown
Thrashers about 900, and a few sparrows as we were closing the last nets at
1100.
Looking forward to a weather change. No Golden-winged Warbler. No Worm-eating
Warbler, no Nashville, Townsend's nor

Still not lots of birds around, but between the banding station nets and the
feeder nets at the Nature Center we managed to catch enough birds for Hugh
and Urling Kingery's beginning birder class, a large group of Boy Scouts,
and an ornithology class from Metro State. Busy morning!

Hi COBirders,
This morning (May 5) worked out for an early morning arrival at Chico
Basin. A slow day as reported by others. However there were great views
of a barn owl flying between cottonwoods at HeadQuarters pond area, a few
warlers including the first Wilson's warbler I'd seen this
