Late yesterday 5 Great Egrets perched in the trees at Sell's Lake just off
the Canon City Riverwalk, first of the year birds in this area. The
Evening Grosbeak I reported in City on the bluff next tot the Riverwalk are
still here. Though they likely are going to feeders in the residences
there,
Dave Silverman found a Carolina Wren on Saturday, 19 April, in the western part
of Greenhorn Meadows Park, in Colorado City, which is in southern Pueblo
County. I'm sure Dave will update, if the bird hangs around.

I saw a pair (pretty sure there were two) of Clark's grebes on Saturday
at Big Johnson reservoir. They were near the dam, best viewed from the west

Thanks to Robb for texting me yesterday when he found this Phoebe. I was able
to get up there about an hour later and it was still in the same spot and
content to stay there.
This is the same spot that a pair of Rusty Blackbirds hung out all winter. I
hadn’t seen either of them since the

COBirders,
First, thank you to Duane for posting about the birds that were at Tempel
Grove. Unfortunately, I had to be back to town too early and did not give
Glenn and I enough time to really enjoy southeast CO. The one other species
that we had at the Grove was a male WILSON'S WARBLER.
The black phoebe is still present at same location reported yesterday. Fyi

On Tuesday (4/15) I had my FOS spotted towhees, along with a red naped
sapsucker which hung around my yard feeding in the Austrian pines for three
days before departing. On Thursday (4/17) mourning doves and barn swallows
arrived, and yesterday (4/19) we had our first broad tailed hummingbird,

I am concerned about the local landowners escalating their confrontations
with us birders.
My concern is that some birder might be perceived as angry at being
harassed like that or threatening to them and provoke
an unwelcome response, such as having a firearm waved around. Don't want
that.
Kara Carragher, Bill Maynard, and I saw a male Hooded Warbler at Chico Basin
Ranch (fee area), this morning. It was in the wet area with Willows, between
the banding station and the Bell Grove (this is in El Paso County). There was
also a Broad-winged Hawk in the banding station trees early
I stopped by last chance on the way out of state. Only a yellow rumped

Hi all,
The previously reported Glossy Ibis was still present early this afternoon.
Another bird if interest at this productive little pond was a gorgeous male

As much as I admire Joe's multiple soft solutions, I doubt they would make
much impression on this nutjob. Probably the best solution is to make sure not
to park in front of his house, and otherwise just ignore him. Maybe he'll just
get tired of the game.

While doing chores a little while ago, I was buzzed twice by a male
Broad-tailed Hummingbird, a FOS for my yard. My home is located about 5
miles SE from downtown Estes Park at 8,000 ft. This is about 2 weeks
earlier than 10 years ago.

I have often stopped at the oil well pullout a bit closer to CR48 instead
of the top of the hill in front of the houses, having on one occasion seen
an unfavorable response from the house on the hill owners. One time while
viewing birds from near the oil well a guy from the oil company pulled
Just a quick reminder, people who are submitting bird checklists to e-bird from
Chico Basin Ranch, need to submit at least two checklists. One for the Pueblo
County side and one for El Paso County side. Each county has its own filter.
The Pueblo County side of the Ranch, includes the
One more comment on birding the Latham Reservoir area. A friend of mine and
her husband were birding that area on April 9. She isn’t certain of the
exact spot, but it was at a T-intersection with a house straight up the T.
As they were birding from their car, they both distinctly heard a gun
