We had a total of 15 birders participate in our Alamosa bird trip. The day
started out sunny and not too breezy. Immediately, at the Alamosa Cemetery, we
found the bird of the day...A male Townsend’s Warbler (Alamosa County), amongst
an Orange-crowned and a Yellow-rumped Warbler. Townsend’s

On this blustery day we just had a male black-chinned at our hummingbird
feeder. Don't have any records for 2012 or 2013, but in 2011 we noted a FOS
bird on May 7.
Stay warm!

A group of several birders are enjoying several note-worthy birds that continue
(and even grow in number) on the Boulder Creek Trail on the CU East Campus.
The splendid Summer Tanager (adult male) that Peter Gent reported yesterday
morning continues in a large flock of Yellow-rumped Warblers.
While birding with the DFO Field Trip this morning in Pueblo, we saw a male
Townsend's Warbler. It was in the tall cottonwood trees, along the paved bike
trail, below Pueblo City Park, and east of the footbridge, along the north side
of the Arkansas River. The pair of Eastern Phoebes
While birding on bike at ~ 0.2 miles west of the Lee Martinez parking lot
and Poudre Bike Trail intersection I saw a nice flock of migrants which
included a Northern Parula and Cassin’s Vireo and a couple of Yellow-rumped
Warblers.

Hi COBirders,
Chatfield Banding Station officially opened yesterday, Saturday, 4/26. We were
open briefly on 4/25 while finishing set up, and then we open a few nets this
morning until we figured out it was too cold and too windy and not going to
improve much.
The rewards for opening on
Two whimbrel were at the CR42 pond, between CR45 and CR47 at about 1:30 pm.

There were at least 4 adult Glossy Ibis on the south side of Bromley Lane, just
east of Picadilly Rd. east of Brighton CO. They were with a flock of 120+
White-faced Ibis. I think this is the most I have seen together in Colorado. I
looked for hybrid characteristics but found none.

Today, on the beaver ponds at the south end of Manitou Lake (fee area) I had
what I believe was a Mexican Duck (considered a subspecies of Mallard
nowadays). It did fly after a few minutes and I got good looks at the
speculum bordered in white on both sides.

Hi Everyone-
Today 4/47, on my way back from SE Colorado, I stopped at Last Chance and
Union Reservoir. At Last Chance, birds were hunkered down in windbreaks. I
saw nothing rare, but I thought 8 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers were a decent
number. Other migrants included a Townsend's Solitaire,
The aforementioned birds were all refound this afternoon in the same
location at around 5pm while I was there, by me and by several other happy
enthusiastic birders. We also spotted a Plumbeous Vireo in the bunch.

Hi CoBirders
I've been looking as a different duck at Rocky Mountain Lake in Denver,
tonight I got my best look so far at a probable Juv. female Long-tailed
Duck. She

Hi coBirders
The original post got away from me, Sorry. She is white below to above the
water, with a brown back. The head has a wide white stripe back from eye,
dark cheek and dark top of head. The bill is small and dark. The tail is
dark and shows russet feathers when diving. I'm using Stokes
Hi all
Spent Sunday at home, watching the snow fly occasionally, and the
yardbirds..
HARRIS'S SPARROW continues - and now looking very 'dapper' - For at least
its 138th day.
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW - a record high of six migrants in the yard today
(they are only ever here a few days a
This morning I spotted a first of the year Green-tailed Towhee foraging
under my thistle feeders. A very shy bird, it flushed easily to the brush
and tree pile I have next to the feeders.
And yesterday I had a first of the year Lazuli Bunting singing in my
neighbor's tree.
