Union Reservoir, east of Longmont has open water for the first time since
early December thanks to the high winds last night and today. Birds are
starting to pour in: 100 Common Merganser, 50 Common Goldeneye, 4 Bufflehead,
10 Green-winged Teal, 60 Mallard, 200 Ring-billed Gull, 3 Herring
Hi All,
Had an Osprey flying E to W over the Big Thompson River between Taft and Wilson in Loveland a few minutes ago. He looked so graceful flying in the wind compared to the Canada Geese trying to make headway in the same area.

After years of searching, I finally discovered the secret to finding a northern
pygmy-owl in Colorado: I stopped looking for it. While loading up the car today
at 9 a.m. after a nice visit with friends near Salida, I heard poot-ing, then
saw the bird, atop a Ponderosa in a snowy gully at 8,000

This morning we looked for the 4 double-crested cormorants reported
recently,and now there are 8 on Ferrill Lake. Watching them was a bald eagle in
a tree on the island. There were 8 species of diving ducks in small numbers,
including the 2 female red-breasted mergansers.

I saw this Northern harrier just east of the Colorado Springs airport
this afternoon. I think it is a mature male but i would appreciate any
comments on its age.

I found an American Dipper in Clear Creek (Adams Cty.) today at 4:15 pm. It
flew to below the I-76 bridges from downstream. I only saw one bird. This
spot is east of Lowell Blvd.
