Hello, Birders.
Kei and Hannah and Andrew and I were out at the Carpenter Ranch, Routt
County, this past Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 13-14, for the 3rd annual Yampa
Valley Crane Festival.
The highlight was several hundred Sandhill Cranes. I'd known about the
famous stagings in the San Luis Valley;
#121 Western Scrub Jay! We heard him last night in yard (couldn't find
him); finally saw him this morning.
How many Western Scrub Jay seen east of Hwy 85?

Hi all. I put out some peanuts yesterday and the Scrub Jay came and got one.
I think this is the same one that has been coming for 2 years now. I think it
hangs out with Blue Jays.
It is not as bright as most Scrub Jays and may be a female.
I have not started feeding birds yet this year.

Birders,
An immature Sabine's Gull was at Adobe Creek Reservoir (aka Blue Lake) this
afternoon. It was in the shrinking south part of the lake south of the Bent
County line. As water is drawn down, there is a deep canal allowing water to
pass from the large north part of the lake, through the
The warm weather seems to have slowed things down; only 33 new birds banded
today. Cool and surprising bird of the day was a Sage Thrasher. We haven't
caught one at the station since 1995! And the first I've had in the hand.
We all spent a long time staring at its truly beautiful eyes!
From distant views it appears to be a Parasitic Jaeger on Boulder Res.
When I left best views were from the south shore and the jaeger was mostly
floating on the water. It flew around a few times, but always distant.
Also on the res were *Sabine Gull*, *Common Tern*, and Forester's Tern.

At Boulder Res right now and Jaeger took flight towards SE corner. Looks to be
a Juv Pomeraine Jaeger based on rounded tail, bulky bill, and noticeable hook
to bill but didn't see it in flight long enough to see underwing/upperwing
clearly.
Would appreciate clarification from anyone else who
Terribly sorry about the belated post, I feel bad that this bird is likely
not chasable...but me and my birding partners Fawn Simonds and Nicole Teel
found a Black-throated Green Warbler at Crow Valley Campground on the
Pawnee National Grassland in Weld County last Saturday (9/13/14). The bird
Dear Birders,
I went down to the north shore of Boulder Reservoir from around 5:15-6 pm this
evening. For most of the time, the jaeger was sitting on the water just beyond
the buoys. The bird wasn't all that big, noticeably smaller than a relatively
adjacent Ring-billed Gull. The overall color
I'm hoping that the two enterprising birders who hired (?) the small fishing
boat (and must have stunning close up photos of the jaeger) might post
observations and/or share their photos with cobirds! The idea occurred to me,
but I had no cash.
