I just wanted to add to this posting.
Nick Komar and I were birding at the north end of Boyd Lake State Park in
Larimer County this evening when I spotted a male Piping Plover feeding in
the mud flats. I showed the bird to Nick, but it flew off before we were
able to photograph it. Nick
A *Barn Owl *just called three times near my home, beginning nearly right
over the house, then again nearby, and a third time a couple minutes later
but farther off. A *Common Poorwill* is calling sporadically in the
distance.
The only two prior detections of Barn Owl I've had here were in
Today's DFO "Big Month" field trip to Chatfield SP and a few other places
rounded up some 87 species, adding at least 18 new ones to the DFO "Big
Month" tally.
A pre-dawn extension of the trip enjoyed 4 *Common Poorwills* at the Dakota
Formation hogback as heard from the Cathy Johnson Trail, and
I just found a piping plover at the north end of Boyd Lake.

The difference a day can make!
Yesterday morning, Monday, May 8, was dry and sunny, and I found a grand
total of three (3) migrants at the Greenlee Preserve–Waneka Lake–Thomas
Open Space–Hecla Lake ecological complex, eastern Boulder County: 2 *Audubon
warblers* and 1 *chipping sparrow.*
We started the day under gray skies in Alamosa hoping to find some great
birds. Rain was forecast and it was a cool start but Jerry Poe, Mary Van
Pelt and myself gave it a shot. At Alamosa Golf Course, the cold temps

I banded an adult Northern Waterthrush (#2 for the season) this morning at
Clear Spring Ranch. I didn’t expect much for migrants today following the
torrents last night, but there was a modest arrival about 8:00, with the usual
suspects for this part of May (20 total). Also of
Hail, the new arrivals. Yesterday's storm today brought Western tanagers, three
males and one female. Also had a male Bullock's oriole drinking from a
hummingbird feeder.
