I headed out east this morning with John Vanderpoel to do a bit of pre-CBC
scouting (the official "count-week" period will begin on Monday for the first
CBCs of the year). Our first stop of the day was at Tamarack SWA where we were
joined by birder incognito. We searched the hedgerow at
NB: John B's trip was at First Creek.

To my amazement the shrike began singing and to my further amazement I actually
got a relatively decent recording of it on my iPhone.
If anyone would like a copy of the shrike's

Hey COBirders,
A flock of 8 crossbills made a very brief appearance at my backyard birdbath at
9:15 this morning, then gone - 3 males, 5 female type. I will keep watching,
but they don't appear often, or hang around long.
