Our Evergreen Audubon birding group saw Bobolink, singing at the top of a
Cottonwood at the edge of Bear Creek Lake at the Pelican Point parking area.
The bird was north of the parking area along the lake shore.

Near the Soda Lakes boat launch, in the scrub around the parking lot, we found
an immature female Blackburnian Warbler and two Nashville Warblers among the
many Yellow-rumps. Bullocks Orioles, Yellow Warblers, a House Wren, grackles,
robins, red-wings, among others.

Bill and I saw a beautiful Short-eared Owl at Chatfield. Off the main road
after turning left from the entrance road. Being harassed by Magpies.
Not sure if all of Chatfield is in Douglas co.

We were the second group to see a male adult Barrow's Goldeneye at Chatfield
Reservoir this weekend, based on GBBC postings. It was in the open water near
the dam and west of the tower. Very easy to see, in with Common Goldeneyes.

After being alerted by another Evergreen birder, we found 8 Common Poorwill at
the Centennial Cone parking area at 8500 feet. Six heard calling at 8 pm. Found
two sitting on the road out of the parking area. Dry rocky shrubs and grassland
make it an ideal habitat.

We had a nice visit at our feeders from 10 to 12 male, female, and immature
Evening Grosbeaks yesterday (Sunday). Great fall visit. A 15-bird flock of
Band-tailed Pigeons showed up on Saturday.

Soda Creek. Take County Road 65 from Bergen Park. Turn right on Alta Vista.

Wheatridge today at 1 pm. It was in a small bush on the edge of the lake where
the Cormorants are nesting.
We have seen this species numerous times on the western slope, but never in our
home county, Jefferson.

We missed one interesting migrant that we saw in Prospect Park on Wednesday 11
April, a Blue Grosbeak. Unusual and interesting. Wonder how early this one is?

After a remarkably Finchless season, we finally had 6-7 Cassin's at our feeder
this weekend. We generally have them all winter, but like the Pine Siskins
(also returned several weeks ago), they have been absent.

We saw a Blackpoll Warbler at Lair o¹ the Bear on Saturday morning in a
mixed flock with a Yellow Warbler, Lincoln¹s Sparrow, and Yellow-rumped
Warbler. Also an Olive-sided Flycatcher among the regular suspects.

almost a Hooded appearance with the
straight forehead and the thin bill. With the Hooded swimming nearby,
however, the overall differences were obvious.
Any ideas about an adult male Barrow¹s without a white patch? Could this be
a juvenile just not quite in full adult plumage?
