We saw them again today, 10 ducklings, now with light color on their heads
and breasts, apparently twice as big as yesterday. Mother and ducklings
were swimming in a tight group at a furious pace.

The snipes are courting in the Coughlin Meadows area in Roosevelt National

"stake-driver". At the right distance, the call sounded like "*oonk*-ka-
*oonk*". The "oonks" sound like a distant sledge hammer hitting a wooden
stake, but I don't know what the "ka" was thought to be. I haven't heard
