Driving past South Platte Park Reservoir on C470 - just past 6:40 pm, with
drizzle and light rain - I noticed an exceptional assemblage of swallows
foraging over the grassy slopes of the reservoir and the property to the
west, I went to check it out and found the air thick with vast clouds of
I'm kind of interested in this, though my logistical issues would be
similar to your own. I live in SW Denver, and typically work 8-4:30 with
occasional varied days off.
Is there any possibility of overnight accommodations at the camp, including
camping out myself on the grounds? Are the 6

Two of my favorites are at Roxborough Stat Park, right outside the visitor
center, which can get Black-chimed Hummingbirds. Another is the hummingbird
feeders at Echo Lake Lodge, along side the parking lot near the lake
trail-head. In July it's one of my spots I look for Rufus Hummingbirds,
I don't have very inviting landscaping near my home and the feeder hasn't
attracted anything but I'd like to ask the community where the best place I can
go to sit and watch hummingbirds would be.

Dear Birding Community,
For many years, we have held the, "compilation dinner" at the clubhouse
where Bill Kaempfer lives. Bill is taking well deserved retirement from CU
later this year and moving to Florida.
Boulder County Audubon, who sponsors this event, is looking for a person's
home or

First seen by John Drummond around 9:07 AM. Seen by at least 11 people.
Continuing in north chokecherry patch. Bird flew to and from junipers and
deciduous trees further off the road to the west. At one point foraged high up
a cottonwood. The bird's first two visits to the chokecherry
While on a CFO convention field trip to Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch, Mark
Holmgren and I spotted this unusual visitor to Colorado. After pointing it
out to the group, we discovered there was a second bird as well! The rainy
day, low light conditions and rapid movement of the bird made
Hi all
Had a great time at 2018 Colorado Field Ornithologists Convention. Thanks
to my three field trip (Boulder, Boulder, Gilpin County) leaders: Christian
Nunes, Stephen Jones and William H. Kaempfer. Got to bird in three types
of weather: sun, rain and snow (on ground). Plenty of
Sorry if this is not appropriate. I copy and pasted from the Greeley

On the night of May 9, a landowner in central Weld County spotted a bald
eagle perched on the ground in a pasture about 60 yards from his home.
The next morning, he discovered that the eagle was dead on the same
Saw what appeared to be a rose-breasted grosbeak x black-headed grosbeak
hybrid in the top of the tree by the NW corner of the nature center at
Walden ~6:20 a.m.
It had a clear white stripe over the eye, a raggedy orange triangle where a
rose-breasted would have red, and a white belly.

I birded the Saguache area (all in Saguache County) and it was a bonanza of
colorful birds. I have never seen so many hundreds of Evening Grosbeaks in
town! Amazing.
*Russell Lakes:* Great Egret and Canvasbacks were highlights.
*Road 46.* Take Road Z west from Saguache to Rd 46 and go south
Hi all
One was also found shot in Nunn near CR 108 this past Christmas found on
the annual bird count on private property by one of the teams. It is
assumed not the property owner since he allows access to his private
property to birders during count.
Thanks Gary Lefko, Nunn
Yesterday afternoon, I birded sections of the Arkansas River at Valco Ponds and
below the dam at Lake Pueblo State Park (Rock Canyon area). At Valco Ponds,
Violet-green Swallows, with a few Barn Swallows and a rare Northern
Rough-winged were swarming low over the river as far upstream and
Steady visits by Bullock Orioles to the oranges I have been putting out. They
also are eating suet. This weekend I had a pair of Black-headed Grosbeaks.
And oddly--a pair of kestrels appear to be nesting in a multi-unit purple
martin house I have in our yard. That has to be a tight fit!
Friends,
Where does one park to gain access to the First Creek area of Rocky Mountain
Arsenal?
Thanks!

Caught a few birds that would be migrating through, some first-time birds
likely to stay for the season, and a bunch of locally breeding birds banded
earlier that are now in the breeding process. Among the 3 birds caught
today that had been banded in previous years, one was a Yellow Warbler
As far as I could tell all of the folks present at the Golden-crowned Warbler
site (about 22 by my count) were graced with good views. I got there about
9:15am and left at 4:20pm. The bird last showed itself at around 2:45pm. It
was always in the chokecherries teaming with insects on the west
I forgot to mention somebody left their jacket on the ground at the north end.
It is a man's XL Reg gray LL Bean. I have it and would be glad to get it back
to its owner.

At least I think it's Adams. This afternoon, the immature male Vermilion
Flycatcher was found at the northwest end of the pond at the open space. It fed
a few times, then flew into the Cottonwood trees just north of the bison fence.
