Adrian Cole commented on NETBEANS-1820:
---

my 2p, there has been a large discussion which distracts anyone reading
incubator threads. That may or may not be fair towards the issue here. At any
rate, I would love for this topic to go away forever to save from distractions
in the future.

Can someone familiar mention the full paths to the cat photo which is the
center of all of this? That way, people can verify it is gone or replaced, or
had explicit permissions granted.

The idea is that if the issue is tracked here, it won't leak into a heated
general@ thread again, causing such a distraction.

[jira] [Updated] (NETBEANS-2326) Explorer API views (ListView, TreeTableView) flicker when filtering nodes

Emilian Bold updated NETBEANS-2326:
---
Description:
*Summary*

For a brief second the Explorer API views show dummy nodes for a filtered node.
See the attached PNG screenshot and video for a general idea.

Oddly enough Children.Keys(boolean lazy)
[http://bits.netbeans.org/dev/javadoc/org-openide-nodes/org/openide/nodes/Children.Keys.html#Keys-boolean-]
 does mention a "dummy" Node but it was never clear what that is and I never
imagined it could go all the way to the UI.

Ideally this flickering should be fixed or the existing documentation clarified
to explain this limitation...

*Steps to reproduce*

Open the zipped NetBeans module project (tested on NetBeans 8.2 and Apache
NetBeans 10.)

The children filtering is done the 'usual' way recommended in wiki:

{{new FilterNode.Children(node) {}}
 {{ @Override}}
 {{ protected Node[] createNodes(Node key) {}}
 {{ if (rule(key)) {}}
 {{  return super.createNodes(key);}}
 {{ } else {}}

{{  //filter out}}
 {{  return new Node[0];}}
 {{ }}}

}

*Expected results*

The ListView / TreeTableView GUI should show only show the allowed nodes.

*Actual results*

The view actually shows many children nodes for a split second then it shows
the filtered nodes.

[jira] [Created] (NETBEANS-2326) Explorer API views (ListView, TreeTableView) flicker when filtering nodes

2019-03-30 Thread Emilian Bold (JIRA)
Emilian Bold created NETBEANS-2326:
--

 Summary: Explorer API views (ListView, TreeTableView) flicker when
filtering nodes
 Key: NETBEANS-2326
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-2326
 Project: NetBeans
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: platform - Explorer, platform - Nodes
Affects Versions: 8.2, 10.0
Reporter: Emilian Bold
 Attachments: dummy-nodes.png, filternode-flicker.mov

For a brief second the Explorer API views show dummy nodes for a filtered node.

The children filtering is done the 'usual' way:

{{}}{{new FilterNode.Children(node) {}}
{{ @Override}}
{{ protected Node[] createNodes(Node key) {}}
{{ if (rule(key)) {}}
{{  return super.createNodes(key);}}
{{ } else {}}

{{  //filter out}}
{{  return new Node[0];}}
{{ }}}
{{ }}}

and what happens is that the ListView / TreeTableView GUI does *not* show only
the allowed nodes. It shows all the original children for a split second then
it shows the filtered nodes.

See the attached screenshot and video for a general idea. I'm also going to
attach a small project.

Oddly enough Children.Keys(boolean lazy)
[http://bits.netbeans.org/dev/javadoc/org-openide-nodes/org/openide/nodes/Children.Keys.html#Keys-boolean-]
 does mention a "dummy" Node but it was never clear what that is and I never
imagined it could go all the way to the UI.

I believe there are two ways of handling this issue.
 # Ask the owner for permission to use the files.
 # Remove the files and find some other way to achieve the test functionality.

History is only important if Oracle obtained permission to use the images.

So this comes back to: Was the donation correctly done? If so, the images were
donated, we were in a position to call them now ALv2, or they were not, which
raises the question, which was also in the donation zips and not correctly
donated.

FYI: The discussion on the IPMC thread has nothing at all to do with core
libraries of the java platform. Most of the concerns raised are related to
files that are nothing more than data and Apache is clear about that -- these
do not need to be licensed. Quite frankly a LibreBeans project does not solve
anything and creates heaps of new concerns -- anyway, this is the wrong place
for that discussion, you're always welcome to start that discussion on the dev
mailing list.

Matthias Bläsing commented on NETBEANS-1820:

I'm not subscribed there. The images have clear license info now(see link
above). When netbeans rat report is created, there is a secondary file:
nbbuild/build/rat-appendix.txt, this summarises the license info for special
cases.

My gut feeling is still, that the ASF is a bad fit for the netbeans IDE. There
is a heap of license conflicts, as core libraries of the java platform are
either GPLv2-only or GPLv2-CPE and Oracle did nothing to address the conflict.
There is https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LEGAL-336, which may clear some
thinks up. Quite frankly a LibreBeans project sounds tempting.
