The first thing you want to do is to switch your theme in Options->Appearance->Look and Feel to FlatLaf Dark. Restart and see if you are satisfied with the result. PS: Even though it might be an optional thing at this point, I tend to still get the patched JDK Runtime from JetBrains to deal with any issues with Fonts/Rendering at [https://github.com/JetBrains/JetBrainsRuntime/wiki] and point netbeans to it in the `etc/netbeans.conf` folder `netbeans_jdkhome="/home/mjamsz/Apps/jbrsdk_11` Should be all set at that point with 4k HiDPI It sounds like in near future FlatLaf will be default, that's great to hear! The closest to a good experience in 4k that I got is using the following. * Netbeans 9 * JDK 10 * Must install Darcula LAF (download the file from github or plugin portal ) * Execute in bash with the following ```GDK_SCALE=2 netbeans.sh``` Gnome GTK Look and Feel will produce 4 times the fonts and cannot be resized to normal. Metal look and feel has extremely tiny fonts and generally looks bad. Nimbus is just buggy. Sorry for the giant screenshots they are captured in 4k. Indeed, we have built several GUI Forms with Netbeans 8.2 with beansbinding. I was under the impression this was an obvious pattern to adopt. I started to look into JGoodies binding, but not sure how to migrate yet. So no plans for users to migrate off of beansbinding that was built wit Netbeans GUI builder? Some of the binding logic is within Netbeans locked section for non-editing. While I understand the licensing issue you raised Geertjan. Please consider the fall out and side affects of your users who took advantage of the built in feature. If beansbinding is not the answer, are we back to cave man days of manually wireing all data driven gui? Any recommendation for existing users with large code base that got themselves to use the feature in netbeans and would like to keep up with Apache Netbeans going forward. Indeed it's a shame that HiDPI is still quite a mess. Despite the messy situation however, have you seen or tried Intellij IDEA IDE on HiDPI? I am stunned by the fact that Intellij was able to pull off a flawless HIDPI 4k support out of the box, no questions asked and they are also Swing UI based, just like Netbeans. I have looked around their github source code for the HiDIPI pieces and it's all right there. Tired it on both Windows 10 and Fedora 28 Gnome. Frankly, given the experience with most Swing/Netbeans apps, I did not think it was possible to be able to scale so flawlessly. All icons, bars, separators, buttons, margins, padding, tree views, context menus.. All work out of the box. Based on that I refuse to believe this issue is in the hands of a JDK and OS alone. I think Netbeans Community should do something about it or face extinction. Hi Guys, Just found this issue and would like to respond to the question on JDK
10 Directly.
I run on Fedora 28 with Gnome 28 and OpenJDK10 with 4k monitor.
And even as of today I run into catch 22 situation with Java/Netbeans.
*Scenario 1:* Install Netbeans and start on JDK 10 no custom flags or
anything. The result, I get all components to be extremely tiny, icons,
scrollers, tabs, etc.. The fonts seem to be doing much better and push the ui
components around, I guess since GDK/Gnome adjusts them somewhat.

Scenario 2: Start Netbeans in a console with the following ENV Variables
exported.
{code:java}
export GDK_DPI_SCALE=0.5 <-- this one does not seem to help or work.
export GDK_SCALE=2
{code}
Now, Netbeans components, icons, and scrollers seem to scale correctly...
However the FONTS are 4 times larger and no matter what I do, I cannot get them
to sale to their proportional size. (See attachment)

A basic test running Netbeans with Java9 or 10 in Gnome 26 or 28 with HIDPI 4k
monitor and you cannot miss the above scenario.
I have yet to see a solution to this. I was deeply disappointed to see this and
continue to witness all along while everyone said JDK 9+ would fix scaling
issues for Java and hence for Netbeans and yet here we are!
