I see in the log many entries like: {{Caused: java.util.zip.ZipException: /Applications/NetBeans/Apache NetBeans 12.2.app/Contents/Resources/NetBeans/netbeans/platform/modules/org-netbeans-modules-uihandler.jar (Too many open files)}} This varies with files, but when this point is reached, I would not trust the system much more. The system assumes, that files can be freely opened and in most cases I saw they are jars of the netbeans system, so there is no reason to apply limits. Maybe this helps to track it down? A quick google showed some entries from the past where people reported similar problems in the past. One thing that might be interesting (just an idea): What type of projects are opened? 12.2 has a bug, that causes an excessive number of subprocesses to be spawned when the LSP support (typescript/cpplite projects) is used. > Crash: cannot get exclusive access to uihandler.properties > -- > > Key: NETBEANS-5177 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-5177 > Project: NetBeans > Issue Type: Bug >Affects Versions: 12.2 >Reporter: Ulrich Mayring >Priority: Blocker > Attachments: messages.log, sc.png, screenshot2.png, thread_dump.rtf > > > I experienced a number of total freezes after installing NB 12.2 (have been > using 12.0 before), but could not get an error message of any sort, since NB > was completely unresponsive to keystrokes or mouse. I never ran into this problem in 12.1 and my current workaround is to just use 12.1. I posted the following in the users mailing list. Hopefully this helps. Please let me know if there's other info I could provide that will help debug this. The windows I saw had messages like : • Folder org-netbeans-api-project-libraries already exists in /Users/blah/Library/Application Support/NetBeans/ 12.2/config • Cannot get exclusive access to /Users/blah/Library/Application Support/NetBeans/12.2/build.properties@bad1856d:5a70225a (probably opened for reading) Here's the thread dump. Please don't overstate. Yes it is bad for you, but in general 12.2 works. Lets focus again on the problem. Could you please provide a log from the situation, maybe the stacktraces and further information can further narrow it down. For the deadlock, the log should hold the information, which locks clashed, so it might shed some light on this. Could it be, that the home directory resides on a special filesystem or has special handling enabled in the kernel? Deadlocks with directories and files I would only expect on windows, where opening a file by default creates a mandatory lock, but I'm not aware of similar things on linux, there you can even delete an opened file. > Crash: cannot get exclusive access to uihandler.properties > -- > > Key: NETBEANS-5177 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-5177 > Project: NetBeans > Issue Type: Bug >Affects Versions: 12.2 >Reporter: Ulrich Mayring >Priority: Blocker > Attachments: sc.png, screenshot2.png > > > I experienced a number of total freezes after installing NB 12.2 (have been > using 12.0 before), but could not get an error message of any sort, since NB > was completely unresponsive to keystrokes or mouse.
