BTW, Looking at this patch, I think the progress call could go in the inner
loop,
{code}
...
UploadPartResult partResult = writeOperations.uploadPart(part);
offset += uploadPartSize;
parts.add(partResult.getPartETag());
progress.progess()   //HERE
}
{code}

That way, it'll be invoked every 32, 64MB of part upload. If the task created
4GB of data, without the per-part uploads you could still get some timeout just
from the time to upload. a progress event per block eliminates this problem

build the patch off trunk.e.g

{code}
git diff trunk...HEAD > ~/hadoop-patches/work/HADOOP-16961-002.patch
{code}
(assuming you have that hadoop-patches/work) dir, or similar). Then attach that

OK.

Overall design looks good, just some of the details to tune.

# doesn't apply to trunk; HADOOP-14556 has broken it. Sorry..you'll need to
tweak it there and we'll have to go the other way on the backporting (which
will be appropriate)
# Given that progressible is just an interface there's no need to mock &
verify, just use a simple implementation

{code}
class ProgressCounter implements Progressible {
 private long count;
 public void progress() { count++; }
}
{code}

..then do some asserts on that count value.

style wise, there's a few changes for the indentation...ideally the patch
shouldn't be realigning things. That's pretty minor.

Yetus only does the unit tests, not the real {{mvn verify}} tests with real
credentials. Submitters are required to have done that themselves, and the way
we check everyone's honesty is asking them to list the specific S3 instance
they ran against, e.g. "US west", "ireland", "my own S3 service"

see:
