[jira] Resolved: (JELLY-229) Add list of possible completions to jelly-tags-interaction

2006-05-09 Thread Paul Libbrecht (JIRA)

Paul Libbrecht resolved JELLY-229:
--

Fix Version: 1.1-beta-1
 Resolution: Fixed
Assign To: Paul Libbrecht (was: james strachan)

Applying patch and successfully run the described test and the included sample.
I'd wish for automated tests but this seems impossible for now. So we'll...
just... accept by seeing that the sample works.
paul

Add list of possible completions to jelly-tags-interaction
 --

  Key: JELLY-229
  URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JELLY-229
  Project: Jelly
 Type: New Feature

  Environment: Linux FC3, jdk-14.2_10, Maven-1.1-beta-3-SNAPSHOT
 Reporter: Lukas Theussl
 Assignee: Paul Libbrecht
  Fix For: 1.1-beta-1
  Attachments: JELLY-229.patch

 This is a follow-up of JELLY-175. I added a method setCompletor(list)
allowing to set a list of strings that is used by jline for tab completion.
Use it like: i:ask completor=${list} answer=a/. The list of
tab-completion strings is added to the history list, ie new goals typed in
console mode will always be tab-completed afterwards.
Please note that I have bumped the jline dependency to the latest 0.9.5. This
is not on ibiblio yet, I have created an upload request (
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MAVENUPLOAD-883 ), if it is not found, you
will have to put the jline-0.9.5.jar into your local repo by hand.
To test it: I have deployed a snapshot of the maven 1 console plugin:
 maven plugin:download
 -Dmaven.repo.remote=http://www.ibiblio.org/maven,http://cvs.apache.org/repository/
  -DgroupId=maven -DartifactId=maven-console-plugin -Dversion=1.2-SNAPSHOT
The default value for the completor list is
clean, java:compile, jar, test, xdoc, site, quit, help, but you can define your
own custom list using the maven.console.completor.goals property.

[jelly] [vote] Release commons-jelly-tags-interaction 1.1

2006-05-09 Thread Paul Libbrecht
The story seems quite simple so I thought I'd just ask for a vote sorry
if too stressed.

The interaction jelly tag-library is now ready for release 1.1.
It has been recently boosted with a finer control on auto-completion,
and maven console plugin is using it successfully.

Thanks to give it a try* and provide a vote.
This vote will last till Friday 12:00 GMT.

[ ] +1 yes let's release it
[ ] +0 maybe
[ ] -0 seems not ready
[ ] -1 no, don't!

thank you

paul

* test instruction. Since Jelly-tags-interaction is mostly for
embedding, playing with it can be a challenge. Here's an avenue:
- download it, invoke maven jar:install-snapshot then modify the
console plugin's project.xml to depend on 1.1-SNAPSHOT, run maven
console where you want

- run the sample script inside the interaction's test directory

Indeed, the approach to adding custom actions after calling newInstance() on
the digester does not address the case where the external documents pulled in
contain custom actions. It seems best to take this opportunity to refactor a
couple of related bits in the SCXMLDigester related to custom action parsing.

Thanks for reporting this, I'll take a look later tonight.

[logging] JCL 1.1 FC available for final checks

2006-05-09 Thread robert burrell donkin
i've uploaded JCL1.1FC to
http://people.apache.org/~rdonkin/commons-logging/. it's not yet
available through the distributions and it will be a day or two before
the mirrors sync and i issue the official announcement.

so, please check that i have made no errors in cutting the candidate
(ideally by dropping the jar in as a replacement for a RC or 1.0.4) and
report back promptly if i have made any mistakes whilst cutting the
distribution.

thanks for everyone's hard work in getting this release out :)

I think that this approach is weird if nothing else ;)
I guess a cleaner approach would be to go the Xalan way, either have an entity
resolver to find out the mapping or support java: namespace,
the second would be a lot more easier/intuitive to use.
in my example I would have used
xmlns:hello=java://com.mycompany.customactions.Hello
instead of the
xmlns:hello=http://some.bakar.com/HELLO;
Which does not serve any purpose at all!!
hello:sayhi would call Hello.sayhi

However, doing this would mean a lot of change, also, it will mean that the old
code where ppl implemented SayHi.class to say a hi will be deprecated (Though
not broken, they should still be able to do what they do, only the java:
namespace can have this semantic)

Anyways, this was just my thought.

   Summary: BasicDataSource.getConnection() Connections don't work
as hashtable keys -- test case provided
   Product: Commons
   Version: Nightly Builds
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P2
 Component: Dbcp
AssignedTo: commons-dev@jakarta.apache.org
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Code I'm working with uses a Connection as a key in a Hashtable, and while I was
trying to move from DbConnectionBroker to DBCP, I ran into some problems.

When retrieving the value from the Hashtable using the Connection originally
returned by BasicDataSource.getConnection(), I don't get the value back that was
inserted into the Hashtable. I get null instead.

I've provided a patch to BasicDataSourceExample.java that can be used as a very
basic test case. For the purposes of the test, I set up HSQLDB (originally this
was discovered using JSQLConnect to connect to a MS SQL Server DB), and, using
the HSQLDB's DatabaseManager, populated a database with the test data (Options
- Insert test data).

The patch to BasicDataSourceExample.java the will get a connection, use it to
insert a string into a Hashtable, then do some tests that show the problem,
while still succssfully retrieving data from the database.

Also in the patch are changes so you can provide all the arguments at the
command line.

I tested this with DBCP 1.2.1 with it's dependencies and with the nightly dump
http://cvs.apache.org/builds/jakarta-commons/nightly/commons-dbcp/commons-dbcp-20060509.tar.gz,
with the latest releases of commons-collections and commons-pool. For both tests
the j2ee.jar was version 1.4 and hsqldb.jar was version 1.8.0.2.

Here's the output from the session with the latest nightly build:

[jira] Commented: (JELLY-229) Add list of possible completions to jelly-tags-interaction

Lukas Theussl commented on JELLY-229:
-

Thanks Paul!

What else does it take to get commons-jelly-tags-interaction-1.1 released? Can
you give me an ETA? I can't release the console plugin with a snapshot
dependency so I'm kind of tied to this now unless I roll back this nice
feature. Also, JELLY-175 can be marked resolved as well now?

(Btw: I don't agree with you calling Einstein 'a physicist before the 20th
century', all his major contributions were done after 1905! ;) )

Add list of possible completions to jelly-tags-interaction
 --

  Key: JELLY-229
  URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JELLY-229
  Project: Jelly
 Type: New Feature

  Environment: Linux FC3, jdk-14.2_10, Maven-1.1-beta-3-SNAPSHOT
 Reporter: Lukas Theussl
 Assignee: Paul Libbrecht
  Fix For: 1.1-beta-1
  Attachments: JELLY-229.patch

 This is a follow-up of JELLY-175. I added a method setCompletor(list)
allowing to set a list of strings that is used by jline for tab completion.
Use it like: i:ask completor=${list} answer=a/. The list of
tab-completion strings is added to the history list, ie new goals typed in
console mode will always be tab-completed afterwards.
Please note that I have bumped the jline dependency to the latest 0.9.5. This
is not on ibiblio yet, I have created an upload request (
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MAVENUPLOAD-883 ), if it is not found, you
will have to put the jline-0.9.5.jar into your local repo by hand.
To test it: I have deployed a snapshot of the maven 1 console plugin:
 maven plugin:download
 -Dmaven.repo.remote=http://www.ibiblio.org/maven,http://cvs.apache.org/repository/
  -DgroupId=maven -DartifactId=maven-console-plugin -Dversion=1.2-SNAPSHOT
The default value for the completor list is
clean, java:compile, jar, test, xdoc, site, quit, help, but you can define your
own custom list using the maven.console.completor.goals property.

working with commons-logging 1.0.4 and Tomcat 5.5.17, and made only
this change:

(I installed the jar with 'mvn install:install-file' and had it

It's time to create a parallel version of commons.collections to support
parametized classes of each container class and abstract class. It's not that
hard. There is a 23 PDF document on Sun Java website describing in detail how
it should be done and what to watch out for.

I already converted a few classes from commons.collection privately for my own
needs. Once you get the hang of it, it's a rather quick process.

I am even willing to volunteer my time to do some more but I need the
collaboration of some of the original programmers to watch over things.

Never mind, it's in the release notes. Sorry, I expected 1.1 to be a

I don't recall any deprecation warnings, though. I've had this in
commons-logging.properties for as long as I can remember:

Off to read the documentation for 1.0.4 to see what I missed. :)

We need to figure out how to go ahead with this. Should we branch? Do we just
take the plunge and say that any new versions have to be JDK5 compliant? Does
the trunk continue on a JDK5-centric path and we just creaet branches that
suppor the legacy JDKs?

The story seems quite simple so I thought I'd just ask for a vote sorry
if too stressed.
The interaction jelly tag-library is now ready for release 1.1.
It has been recently boosted with a finer control on auto-completion,
and maven console plugin is using it successfully.
Thanks to give it a try* and provide a vote.
This vote will last till Friday 12:00 GMT.

[ ] +1 yes let's release it
[ ] +0 maybe
[ ] -0 seems not ready
[ ] -1 no, don't!

thank you

* test instruction. Since Jelly-tags-interaction is mostly for
embedding, playing with it can be a challenge. Here's an avenue:
- download it, invoke maven jar:install-snapshot then modify the
console plugin's project.xml to depend on 1.1-SNAPSHOT, run maven
console where you want
- run the sample script inside the interaction's test directory
