It uses the NDK to make a native liblinphone.so to handle the SIP side of
things. Unfortunately for us the NDK produces armv5te binaries. Does anyone
know how to get it to make armv4t binaries so we could use it?

Your battery won't last long in this case because you can't suspend and still
receive calls. You could save a bit of battery by turning off the GSM

linphone worked for me a while back, but would need some work to make it
usable. The main problem is the lack of alsa scenario switching between ring

it's only SIP client that usually
sends some kind of keep-alive; some registrars can do that too but it
seems uncommon.
If you're suggesting a client/server distinction here, I think that's
false: most SIP phones want both to call out and to be called.
Keepalives are used to keep firewall/NAT

Interesting. I wonder, tho: why do you prefer such a setup over
one where the FR itself runs the VOIP program

Its been covered, I'm just too lazy to dig up the old threads. I don't
think there is a problem with creating a SIP client, but the main issue
is the lack of a sufficiently fast enough transmission (ie no WiFi).

Of course should be possible... and I expect that someone
will port an existing sip client to OpenMoko and that such
a client will get an integration into the dailer menue
But this work is hardware independent it could be done at
a later point or just by someone using the emulator¹...
