Well... As you maybe read, I got a sip calling working also using the gtk interface of linphone [1] (I've just to release the packages I've built) but the problems that I've stated in the "Qtopia Voip" thread rests using these alsa configuration and state files :(. Using them with linphone 2.1.1 gtk I always hear the voice in the speaker and not in the earpiece. I've set in the configuration the Alsa default interface as my sound device and I've tried both your alsa states and configs and the ones provided by Openmoko. But in no case I get the sound in my earpiece. Now, I've changed some configuration parameters of my linphone build and using Alsa I can get the sound also in the earpiece, but at this point I can't disable at all the main speaker. :| I'll try the packages you've suggested, but this seems so strange to me since the alsa configuration should be the same for us. Invitation for all Open Source GPS software developers and users to join FOSS-GPS mailing list
As discussed a day or two ago, there is now a list to discuss Open Source GPS software matters hosted kindly by osgeo.org The list is there for all FOSS GPS users and developers to share their experiences, ideas and so on. To join the list, go to http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/foss-gps For more information, check http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS-GPS For background and invitation, go to http://risto.kurppa.fi/blog/invitation-for-all-open-source-gps-software-developers-and-users-to-join-foss-gps-mailing-list/ Developers ### First thing first, I think it's vital for an open source project to communicate with the community - the end users of your software. It's useless for all projects to have their own mailing list so this FOSS-GPS is a nice tool for you to get in contact with the community. Join the list to hear what the users think of your software. Ask them what kind of features they would like to to see in the following releases. Encourage skilled users to send patches. Release alpha and beta versions to be tested and get your feedback. Share ideas and solutions with other developers to get the most out of GPS. Let the community know how your project is doing, where would a path or two be needed and so on. Maybe you need a translation. If your project already has a mailing list or a forum it's still useful to join to hear what the users think and also let more users know right away about your releases. You're welcome to join the list! Write a little introduction when you join so people know that your project is there. Also tell about the list on your project web page to let the users know where to go to contact you and other users in case they want some more information about the software. Users # Do you want to know what's happening in the Open Source GPS world? What are the hottest programs and features? Maybe you want to know if your favorite program will release a new version soon and help them by testing the beta version. Or do you want to share your experiences about the software: what are the best features, what's still missing? What did you find when you needed a tool to import gps tracks or navigate? You're welcome to join the list! Write a little 'Hello World' note telling who you are, what GPS software you use and so on. If you're on some forums that have people who might be interested about this it's more than encouraged to spread the world! Tell the developer of your favourite programs to join the list to get the latest from the community. r -- | risto h. kurppa | risto at kurppa dot fi | http://risto.kurppa.fi ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

All, After reading through many postings and becoming increasingly frustrated, I buckled down and found a way to get the command line linphone working on OE based distros (tested on Qtopia, but should work on 200x.x and others). Ideally this could be interfaced with the dialer somehow. Initial testing of this had the audio routed properly through the earpiece and good audio from the microphone. There was some echo on the non-Freerunner side, and on initial connection, a bit of a beeping sound. Otherwise, it's a go. Linphone uses only about 10-12% CPU (was using a PCM codec). Sound was decent to a cell phone in Canada using a Wifi connected Freerunner based in Costa Rica. Here is a quick and dirty how-to. Enhancements can be made to both the voip-handset.state and asound.conf files (these were my initial working scripts). Thanks to Celtune for the excellent repository that is used below. But it will happen slowly. I believe a fair part of the criticism (or skepticism) is based on expectations. Now that Nokia bought Trolltech a lot of different things could happen: - Nokia believes in the future of Open Source and heavily invests in Trolltech and tries to expand it's "business" and/or increase -- speed -- width/breadth -- depth (_100 % free software on the Qtopia stack, maemo, etc) -- opens up hardware -- tries to stop the cat-and-mouse game with patents - Nokia bought Trolltech to charm a very important audience, the Open Source world. This means keeping Trolltech somewhat happy (providing a secure stable (non-expanding) financial future) - Nokia bought Trolltech to get benefits out of -- people's skills -- a platform (technically speaking) - Nokia bought Trolltech to remove a potential threat What I'm aiming for here is that if and only if (and hopefully), it has to do with the first option. Nokia is willing to move to the open world because it believes it's the right thing to do. If it was so, I guess people expect that every step in that direction would be promoted and besides PR you'd see Trolltech/Nokia advancing into new fields and areas. I guess and think a lot of people feel that they've yet to see proof from Nokia - on their open source strategy, - how they'll embrace and later adapt to a more open community, - basically their belief in (F)OSS. Until a critical amount of "hard evidence" is perceived by the community, Nokia will be looked upon with suspicious eyes and people will fear if not the worst at least not the best. And (with all due respect) - with a Nokia label/t-shirt on, you'll have to prove your credibility to the community not just once but every now and then, probably every day. The (judging) majority doesn't know your history, care to read up on it or even know how to. It has nothing to do with Nokia per ser, only that you actually sold your freedom of speech to a company (I'm pretty sure you can't talk about all that you know by now because of the way things are with a "normal" company that sells products - you're not allowed to talk to the market about products in ways not approved by marketing/product owners). My opinion is that Nokia brings money and it's put to use in way that produces FOSS. That's good no matter what happens next. I'm glad we have this discussion in the first place, and that wouldn't have happened if Nokia weren't there - so for that I'm happy with Nokia too. In regards to your last sentence "Change _will_ happen. But it will happen slowly." I'd just like to add that you'll have to stick up with skepticism until there's enough honest moves being made from Nokia. It looks to me like the current state is not enough to convince a greater majority. Re: USB Networking vs. iptables
I notice that you list the DNS server as 212.6.108.140 (resolver0.ewetel.de), but have the DNAT rules pointing at 212.6.181.140 (an unnamed IP that seems to be owned by 'claranet')... Checking from the 'outside' (IE I'm not on your ISP's network, and I presume you are within the ewetel.de network) 212.6.108.140 is a DNS server which won't let me do recursive lookups, which is normal, but 212.6.181.140 seems unoccupied at this time, or 100% firewalled. If that doesn't resolve it, what's in your FORWARD and INPUT chains? Can you post the output of "iptables -vnL"? (the -'v' for verbose means the output will include counts of packets/bytes that matched each rule - useful for debugging sometimes when unexpected zeros appear) "iptables -vnL" shows all the filter chains, INPUT/OUTPUT/FORWARD. (plus any custom chains) INPUT would affect packets from the Freerunner to the FC6 box (IE, when resolv.conf points at 192.168.0.200) while FORWARD would affect packets when you have the outside DNS server in resolv.conf. j On Thu, 18 Sep 2008 17:22:29 +, Christian Weßel <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hello mokos, > > I just have a DNS problem, I try to configure my FC6 following the guide > http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/USB_Networking#Proxying_with_iptables > because I have a simple static environment for my FR. > > FR.usb.ip = 192.168.0.202 > server.usb.ip = 192.168.0.200 > server.eth.ip = 192.168.1.10 > router.eth.ip = 192.168.1.254 > DNS.ip = 212.6.108.140 > > on server: > [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# cat /etc/resolv.conf > search home > nameserver 212.6.108.140 > nameserver 212.6.108.141 > > [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# iptables -L -t nat --line-numbers -n > Chain PREROUTING (policy ACCEPT) > num target prot opt source destination > 1DNAT tcp -- 192.168.0.202192.168.0.200 tcp > dpt:53 to:212.6.181.140 > 2DNAT udp -- 192.168.0.202192.168.0.200 udp > dpt:53 to:212.6.181.140 > > Chain POSTROUTING (policy ACCEPT) > num target prot opt source destination > 1MASQUERADE all -- 192.168.0.0/24 0.0.0.0/0 > > Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT) > num target prot opt source destination > > on FR: > [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# cat /etc/resolv.conf > nameserver 192.168.0.200 > > [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# ping 74.125.19.147 -c 1 > PING 74.125.19.147 (74.125.19.147): 56 data bytes > 64 bytes from 74.125.19.147: seq=0 ttl=236 time=182.480 ms > > --- 74.125.19.147 ping statistics --- > 1 packets transmitted, 1 packets received, 0% packet loss > round-trip min/avg/max = 182.480/182.480/182.480 ms > > [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# nslookup www.google.com > Server:192.168.0.200 > Address 1: 192.168.0.200 > > nslookup: can't resolve 'www.google.com' > > For me the masqueration seems to be fine, just something with DNAT is > wrong. > If I change the FR.resolv.conf to 'nameserver 212.6.181.140' it also not > working. > > But what's wrong? > > BTW: I got no SElinux security alerts, neither in secure nor in > messages. > ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

reading adobe ebooks on a freerunner
Hello list, I wanted to read some adobe ebooks on the Freerunner, but there is no Adobe "Digital Editions" for Freerunner. (Frankly, this is no loss since the reader is actually annoyingly void of usability.) Anyway, I solved the problem by making a simple application that dumps screens automatically from a Windoze machine running digital editions, to png files. Then I can read them with qcomicbook on a freerunner running Debian. A whole page is quite readable on the Freerunner screen! -- Joakim Verona ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

I asked the maintainer of the freegis.org site if he knew of a list targeted at gps and he did not. I tried to post to the "GPS Software Hub" google group and the posting is being held in the moderation queue. (Moderation is fine but someone has to do the moderating so that the messages go out in a timely fashion.) I don't have a good feeling about how that group is being used and maybe we should not be hijacking it for software development. It's had more of an end-user focus. I am not a big fan of Google but I suggest hosting the list there because it actually works quite well. I especially like the RSS feature. It would be a pretty straight forward project to make a ez-usb key with a magnetometer and pressure sensor. But maybe it's easier to flywire inside case as I think these chips would be pretty tiny. Of course, it would be super cool to productize a ez-usb project and make it a full sensor add on kit, with gyro, temp, 3d magnetometer, and air pressure. For this you can either use the microemulator or MIDPath on top of either Cacao+GNU Classpath or PhoneME Advanced. You can install midpath for OpenMoko through the Jalimo repository. All of this is in OE. So it could be added to the official feeds as well. Running MIDPath on PhoneME Advanced (PMEA for short) is currently not possible due to a bug in the MIDPath version in OE. I hope I can convince Guillaume to release another RC soon so that I can base the recipes in OE on it. For the user PMEA would have the advantage that it is tried and tested Sun code and additionally really fast. Know about 'Qt Everywhere'? Somewhat, though not intimately. All of the people involved in these are nevertheless also put into risk by - ta-dah - Nokia's actions in legislation. (I personally have been in the same table with them in a couple of ministry lobbying sessions on behalf of EFFI (EFF's Finnish counterpart) and the local CS dept, and also otherwise followed their actions closely in the previous EU swpat round.) > > development in general through their patent lobby, very much clueless in > > top level press comments about these subjects, > > and in general not being very consistent in what they're up to in this area. > > Nokia employs thousands of _individuals_, we are not borg, nor do we > all think and act the same. Indeed, I understand that. However, what I originally said that Nokia doesn't have any commitment to free software. You can't take issue with that by stating that there are different opinions in different tentacles of Nokia, and they're all doing their own thing. That really just verifies the original statement. Commitment kind of implies a certain amount of borginess. I am also aware that the leeches^Wlawyers and management at Nokia are mostly to blame for the bad, and many of the grassroots people might be more reasonable. Doesn't really matter either, as the former make the rules. As an example of such a stand-up grassroots ex-Nokia fellow, I nominate a friend of mine, http://liw.iki.fi/liw/log/2004-12.html#20041208b (Yeah, it's almost 4 years old, but as you note at the end of your mail, change happens slowly ;] ) > I have done my share of complaining about Nokia's software patents > (directly to the Finns too!), the closed-ness of maemo and (for a year > or so) Qtopia. That's good, and on one hand I'm glad that there are such people at Nokia. On the other, I'd kind of prefer them to abandon ship and let Nokia become the closed Apple-like behemoth it somewhat seems to want to be. Because more of them don't (see above url), I get the impression that most of them don't really mind Nokia's policies _that_ much, so it really doesn't seem that they'd be a source of much impetus for change. In the final analysis, though, I admit I don't know which is the more realistic approach to increasing total freedom and choice in the market. Perhaps the "kinda-sorta for freedom" guys inside will have some clout and will to use it eventually. > Change _will_ happen. But it will happen slowly. Indeed. Until then, however, I will include a disclaimer about Nokia's less favourable policies whenever I must mention them doing something nice for a change. I think here's a good point to agree to disagree, but of course, I'd get the final word in that case, so not all may agree - I tried to make it fairly balanced as best I could though ;) -- Mikko Rauhala - [EMAIL PROTECTED] - http://www.iki.fi/mjr/> Transhumanist - WTA member - http://www.transhumanism.org/> Singularitarian - SIAI supporter - http://www.singinst.org/> ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
Re: wesnoth
Hi, the wesnoth recipe in OpenEmbedded sucks heavily. Someone should take a deep look at how they package it in Debian and write a recipe that does the same for OE. One would probably need to break the binary packages into smaller pieces (eg. separate music). Btw: The multiplayer stuff might not work because there needs to be sdl-net installed. Hi, I do it the following way: 1) provide a shell script that starts your app and place it in /usr/bin 2) write a .desktop file and place it in /usr/share/applications. Thats all. Of course the chip in the ASUS requires Windows and a proprietary optional software to work.
