Um... Japan does have GSM service... I am positive as I recently had
guests in my house from japan.
They brought their cell phones and I showed them how to make them work
in the US.
As far as I know... Granted, making them work in the us meant dropping
the 3g and switching to GSM service...

back of my credit card (Italian Postepay, VISA) there are 7 numbers,
the last 4 of the card number plus the 3 of the CID/CVV2. When I makje
the order i put all the 7 digits. Is ok?
