No. They just have to be rectangular. Each key has x,y,w,h specified in the

Were you thinking about meshed triangular keys? Maybe you should ask the

It doesn`t have to be triangular, but some shape that could be meshed would

Webservices do this by identifying the user agent string of the browser. The
midori version (0.1.9) I have on my desktop allows you to change this string
to something like the iphone one. And works quite well on all the mobile
versions of sites I tested. The only one that didnt work is gmail :(

Midori in the shr feeds is quite old (0.1.2), and as far as I know does not
have this functionality. Perhaps if the shr-devs could update the midori
version in the feeds...

The other alternative is Arora, a lightweight qt based browser. Which works
well on all mobile websites. It is, as far as I know, not in any distro feeds.
So someone will need to cross compile it for the freerunner...

 Do you mean this:

This is because osm2navit only knows about a few is_in tags. To fix
this, look for a reliable is_in tag in the towns in your country. If
there is none, contact us, we have some scripts which can help adding
one in this case. Then add the tag (at most 3 per country) to this
page. Unfortunately using the country border for detecting the
membership of a town also isn't an option, because the boundaries are
 usually not closed or wrong.

I recently also read that paragraph, since searching does not work in South

I know this has been asked before but since it's not clear for

Let's suppose I've an idea to write the Most Coolest app (app launcher
that is controlled by rolling a small metal ball to holes) that I
think might interest the users of distributions.

 -1) What's your distro?

 0) How do I set up an development environment to write this app for
 your distribution?

So now that I've written the app, let's suppose your Distribution has
people packaging apps for the distro.

 1) Who/how do I inform you that there's this nice app you absolutely
 want in your distribution.

Ok, since you might not have people doing the packaging my friend
 might volunteer to do it.

 2) What's the process to create packages (or .bb recipes or whatever
needed) to submit it to your distribution?

 3) How/who do I inform about new releases?

Links to existing instructions are welcome. AFAIK these things are not
clear and are really stopping people from developing apps - I've heard
someone fighting for days to set up the devel environment because of
the lack of instructions how to do it.

I'm partly interested in this because of the new application showroom
that we're working on to replace opkg.org. The main difference is that
it understand the terms 'distribution' - and uses the repositories of
the distribution. People wanting to release their app need to be able
to release their app in the official repositories but with the lack of
 instructions it just doesnt' happen.

 Thanks!

 r
+1 and thank you.

I`ve been through the development pages on the wiki a couple of times, and its
still not entirely clear to me how everything fits together.

I downloaded the toolchain listed on http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Toolchain
and im trying to get a simple python hello world built and packaged using
bitbake. Im trying bitbake instead of manually running om-make-ipkg since I
gather having a .bb file is the way to go.

However its not clear to me how I would get an *.pkg from bitbake. Just
running bitbake with the .bb file does not seem to work.

Any clarification on this issue would greatly be appreciated.

I've used gmail through midori and woosh many times. Just log in, select

doesn't really fit a small screen.

I checked and midori does support user agent switching, it has the big
browsers already included. (Firefox, safari etc.) There is a custom field as
well although entering a user agent string by hand would be tedious.

In fact, there is already a ticket on SHR to include the iphone user agent

Dunno if its the way of going or not.

I like the idea since then we can have access to other iphone specific web
pages.

I had a quick look at the source of midori and patching it to include the
iphone user agent string will be trivial. I'm not sure what to do with the
patch to get it into the repositories. We could send the patch upstream and
wait for it to filter down?

Alternatively, we could use the custom field in midori. However, im not sure
what will happen when the user changes the user-agent, and if the custom field
will stay the same.

If we use the custom field, we could use some script trickery and change the
configuration file before running midori and change it back afterwards:

#!/bin/bash

rm ~/.config/midori/config
ln -s ~/.config/midori/config_iphone
midori www.gmial.com
rm ~/.config/midori/config
ln -s ~/.config/midori/config_default

Eventually maybe we can have gmail/facebook etc icons in illume :)

Re: [ALL] New showroom for Openmoko apps

My opinion is simple. Developer of app provides bb file (or asks
someone to write it) and then all distros provide that app in repo.
 And that's all.

I agree, however after going through all the development pages in a wiki. The
steps involved in creating an application and making a *.bb file for it, is
not immediately evident to me.

If all we need is for application developers to provide bb files. I think we
need better documentation on the issue. Some wiki page explaining the relation
between the tools, and some example bb files.

I believe this will lower the barrier of getting applications into the
repositories.

Setuptools (and whatever similar stuff is out there for Python packaging)
is a very good tool to assemble and distribute Python site-packages (so to

functionality. A program, however, does not extend the functionaility of
the language - it is just an application itself.

I agree, installing applications in site-packages just feels *wrong*. That

Re: [Wiki] Neon into Hall of Fame (2 Votes)

2009-08-14 Thread Adolph J. Vogel
Is it relevant to inform about those pools on Community Update?
Personally i think only discussion lists members should vote. Otherwise
someone may start to cheat - chances are low, but this may happen...

Maybe just a mention of the Hall of Fame wiki page. I`m not worried to much
about cheating. Its against the spirit of the community and I believe most
people knows this.

Where is the poll for Neon?

Neon already has enough votes for the HoF. So there is no poll :)

Numptyphysics. And Leadman put screenshots in, looks much nicer now! :)

The HoF is coming together nicely :)

seems rather chaotic if we all start a thread to vote for an app,
aren't there places to make free polls?
 just an idea

I agree and suggest using www.doodle.com. Its an online poling thing :) We
have used it quite a bit here at work. Only the person that makes the poll
needs to register an account, people can then take the poll with very little
effort.

I can setup a poll or two for the other applications if thats desired?

Yes, imho that would be nice. Also, the 10th yes-voter could then go
straight to the wiki and add the app's box to the page.

Based on the suggestions on the thread i`ll make polls for orrery,
numptyphysics, sms-sentry. Any others?

Im not going to make one for neon, since I think we probably have enough
votes?

Also, Im thinking about making the poll options yes or not yet. People can
then provide reasons why they think the app is not ready for the hall of fame.
Maybe then giving developers something to focus on.

[Wiki] Nominations for hall of fame.

2009-08-13 Thread Adolph J. Vogel
If you think this application deserves a place in the Hall of Fame please
vote(vouch) for it using the provided urls. Once we get 10 votes the app will
go into the Hall of Fame.

If you think that its not ready yet, vote not yet and please provide a
reason so that the developer knows and can focus on it.

And the nominees...

2009-08-12 Thread Adolph J. Vogel
I think this may end up in a list, where not every entry may meet
every ones personal definition of stable and usable. It also may
lead to some nice flame wars, as it has to be discussed, if a software
 is good. Hm...

Maybe software should only go on the wall if vouched for by say 10 users on
the list. This way its not subjective, if you get 10 votes your on the wall.

Re: New Open Hardware company

Wolfgang
Are you a mechanical engineer? Or do you know some that are interested in
joining to work on a free design and/or can do some coding too? :-)

I`m a qualified mechanical engineer, currently finishing my Masters degree.
Although I have some experience in solid modelling, I`m not that familiar with
injection molding. As my primary interests are in simulation and optimization.
Non the less, I would happily help out where I can with the mechanical aspects
of the design.

As far as coding goes, I`m a farely experienced python programming
implementing all my own code in python. As far as the lower level languages go
I still have to get around to learning them.

There seems to be a lot of activity in HeeksCAD the last 6 months, so
 that's encouraging. It uses OpenCASCADE.
Do you know other free 3D tools?

The only free CAD/CAE software i`ve really used is Salome, which is also based
on openCASCADE.

Re: om2009/paroli status

2009-07-27 Thread Adolph J. Vogel
Less man power is the right way of putting it. There still is
development on both projects but less than before. Laszlo is doing a
great job improving things in paroli which I am very thankful for.
There still is the plan to release a final version of Om2009. It
would be good if we could assemble a list of problems in paroli that
 need fixing for the release.

I must admit this whole thread is starting to worry me. I don`t mean to
pester but could someone please provide some clarrification on the status of
Om2009 / Paroli?

If it is a case of not enough man power, It might be good to assemble a list,
as mirko suggested, of tasks that still need to be done for a release. Then we
can start knocking them down.

regards, Adolph

Re: Freerunner's Future

Also, we haven't touched the whole area of case design and
 manufacturing yet.

As a new freerunner owner :) and as a mechanical engineering masters
student, I think this might be an ideal place for me to contribute to
the freerunners future. :)

There's a number of Free CAD tools that should be up to the task.

I have done some googling on free cad software, anything beyond 2D is
severly lacking behind their propriety counterparts. I will look into
them some more, maybe there are some new projects that we can use.

Anyway, got to get back to my open source CFD workshop :)

Re: Freerunner's Future

2009-06-12 Thread Adolph J. Vogel
 BTW, looking at http://code.google.com/p/heekscad/ and
 http://www.salome-platform.org/home/presentation/geom/
both are based on the same solid modeller: Open CASCADE
 (http://www.opencascade.org, http://opencascade.com/)
From that point of view, it's the same technology behind both.

Yep, if needed we can do the modelling in Salome and use HeeksCad
( HeeksCNC ) for the CAM.
