Re: [Wikireader] Pulster Shop

2009-11-17 Thread David Reyes Samblas Martinez
Tuxbrain will have also some Wikireaders to sell to next week :) , and
we will attend to FOSDEM (along with other distributors) I guess you
will not had problems to buy something from any of us (confirmed list
of FOSDEM OM distributors attendants, Golden Delicious Computing,
Bearstech, kd85, Tuxbrain, BaseTrend) maybe we have to talk about some
kind of no commercial non agression policy before we go there :) to
many too many roosters in the henhouse

I don't hold my breath for this, major hardware vendors are just
"understanding" the benefits of FOSS software
vs propietary but they are far away to aply this to his hardware they
still very tight to the old ways of producing hardware and it
involves a lot of secrets to avoid any one else stole their ideas and
patents.

[OT]Making Geek's phone not so offtopic on this list ;)

2009-11-19 Thread David Reyes Samblas Martinez
Dear list,
I was talking with the Geek's phone CEO we agreed a couple of
intersting things ,

In a couple of days we will receive some final prototypes of the final
version of ONE

We will work together to open as far the hardware of the phone, first
step is obtaining the BOM list of the chipsets included on the ONE, to
evaluate how difficult will be to port the actual kernel used to run
Android to one to use for example SHR,QtMoko, or any other :)

Until the prototypes arrives and/or the we obtain the BOM I would like
hear from you any question you believe is useful to be answered,
other requeriments to achieve make run a GNU/Linux distribution on
this hardware.

Also if someone is already interested to do serious hacking on the
device please contact me personally or through this list and I will
try to make you arrive one of this unit, as you can understand if we
receive more colaboration proprosal than devices available we must do
a selection, so please don't blame us to much if you can't recieve a
unit at first attempt :P

Thats the question, that is more powerfull is sure, but our first
stesp is to see how many of this drivers are free and does that
doesnt how hard is to make them free.

yes I have read about gabriel project before(two monts or so) was not
updated since early 2008 now seems than a new maintainer has picked up
the baton but not new commits yet.
gabriels aproach is more secure but lacks a direct way to play with as
Cristoph proposal :) and lazy as I am I will love to play with qalee
integrated remote dbus :), I have to take a look to boxee(boxee.tv) to
see if it has a dbus interfaces to play with too :)

Re: [WikiReader] Sharing compiling sources.

2009-11-27 Thread David Reyes Samblas Martinez
Sorry for the wait Thomas,
I was working to solve the broken pipe issue that stops the parser
when it finds an error. I have applied a quick and dirty workaround
using try-catch technique and now the process will not stop and just
skip the faulty article and keeps going :) it logs the faulty ones in
a text file (title and position) for posterior forensics, but my first
guesses in that is not a codification issue with utf8 is more an
unexpected formating tag the php parser don't know how to deal with
Actually parsing the german wikipedia with more than 1.3 million articles

Count: 1043000
Failing count: 2

and keeps going I supose we can sacrificate two articles for having
one milion available now :)

as you requested I uploaded my working compiled tools[1] but without
any xml sources it's about 113Mb, but if you have a working tools on
your system you just have to change
host-tools/offline-renderer/ArticleParser.py by the attached on this
mail and you can forget to cry like a child that his ice cream has
fall to the floor when after more than 24h parsing hundred of thousand
articles pased the process you see this ugly python error backtrace
blablabla and not your desired file :)

by the way the faultyarticles.txt is saved at same
host-tools/offline-renderer directory, (i'm too lazy to put a
parameter for change that and I hardcoded the name of the file ,
yes... don't waste typing on correct that bad habit, I know)

If you have curiosity of what articles on the german wiki are causing troubles
on dewiki-latest-pages-articles.xml (date 2009-11-20)

~Storck Bicycle

~Musculus serratus posterior inferior

Regards I hope I will upload the German wikipedia on Sunday... and
will be available on Monday, sorry for the wait but my Asymmetric DSL
is very asymmetric and upload 1.5-2 Gb (expected file size) will take
a bunch of hours.

For those than wants to compile his own , go for it :) the
Quickreference in the doc directory on the souce is all you need to
start working, just remember than if you have a 64 bit system you
will have to follow the 64 bits method to compile the tools,

Re: Distributor list

2009-11-30 Thread David Reyes Samblas Martinez
Really disappointing for us to , that Sean has decided to not maintain
an "official" distributors list,
This drain a little the interest on making business and be so
participative on making the marketing stuff Openmoko Inc has decided
not to do.
I really believe in the project of a freephone, I really believe in of
open hardware but I'm starting to not believe in Openmoko Inc.
And Sean please not argue than FreeRunner responsibilities has been
transfered to community because hardware are still sold by Openmoko
Inc.

it generate the index from the final filesto be able to search them
correctly generating a hash file that must be included, in the image
directory:
$../host-tools/has-gen/has-gen --fnd=pedia.fnd --pfx=pedia.pfx --hsh=pedia.hsh

parsing is precisely the generation of this html files :) it transform
from wiki code to html , so is normal that file is generated is about
the sizes of the original xml file

Regarding just one pedia0.dat file is normal cause you use only one
machine to do that, OM has generated varios dat files because they
paralelize the process , with different peaces of the xml to
parse/render

I find very useful to have a mixture of vectorial and bitmap not to
load the same data but other data like sat pictures, geological
data, or historical ones etc etc.

Thinking deeply about cofundos.org

2009-03-15 Thread David Reyes Samblas Martinez
Dear colleges distributors,
Due Risto and Aapo initiative about programing contest, and the post
of Risto about "Pay for your Open Source software!" in his blog makes
me realize than people like me with not enough time/skills to drive a
moderate/high complex software project to success, can collaborate
in more than just test or spread this software.Cofundos.org will help
to boost any idea you have in mind and give a opportunity to earn some
money to people that have this time/skills you not have, but It's
even greater than this , and this is the main reason I wrote this
message, we can JOIN efforts easily .

We are about 25 distributors around the world with different sizes and
points of view but surely we have a lot of coincidences on what
software we want to be able to offer to our costumers in the Neo, and
surely we receive from costumers the same kind of inputs about what
they want. Surelly most of you, like me, doesn't have enough resources
to hire a developer or to move enough community critical mass to
fulfill some of this needs alone... I don't know what you feel about
this but for me is a very frustrating situation.

But now the great news, we don't have to stay alone in that situation
:), initiative like cofundos can help us to share does needs and if
enough resources are joined and I'm not just talking about money, each
of us reach developers dificult or imposible to reach by the others
for example, some of those needs can be successfully achieved.

To preach with examples I have started one of those projects myself
Voip on Neo Freerunner, but I'm not talking about fix Linphone to work
or port ekiga, I'm talking about VoIP be supported in the core of the
distributions, using FSO and integrate it on Paroli to be as easy to
use like an standard gsm call, and the hole system can react to their
events through dbus... pretty, isn't it? ;) . Who will not pay a
couple of euros to have in his store a free phone able to do that...
doing that :)
Here is the link to the project http://cofundos.org/project.php?id=153
This is only an example, I ear about VoIP very often, and I know there
will be users even companies interested if they can switch from GSM to
wifi VoIP whatever an acces point is accesible for example.
Well sure you get the point :) now let me address to my ...

Dear Developers.
Don't be shy :) if you have the knowledge/time to provide a solution
that fulfill requirements just tell us to know if we can afford it or
not, the proposed example http://cofundos.org/project.php?id=153 is
not a one day job i think will be quite amount of work, so I invite
development companies or groups to make offers too, taking in count
the solution has to be Free software and able to go upstream.
Also I invite all developers with a project in mind or even already
started but pending to finish/improve by lack of founds, may be you
find people interested in invest part of that money

Dear colleges users ,
There are only about 25 distributors but we are are about thousands
users, our support to those initiative we like is vital for them and
now we can have the opportunity to request features with more than
complains :) even an euro to demonstrate interest about a project or
feature requested will help to make it real quicker than waiting for
it and you will have the satisfaction to being part of the solution
instead of only an spectator.

Well... enough words for one post...

I will be glad to receive your comments

Regards

In spite surelly I'm the smallest one... I'm a distributor, and both

involved, I know some other big distributors will add to the initative

For illume based distros you have shortdesk to organize the icons, it
works pretty well and is highly costumizable

old screen shot of shortdesk in action thanks to costumizer kustomizer,

WoW Wow, Matthias brakes on please, Tuxbrain (my company) is the
creator, manufacturer, seller of this product and we finally decide to
lower the price, nothing more nothing less. Really, I was ready to
indifference about the news , I and I was hoping some one will be
little happy about it, but being used as argument like Openmoko
lastest unfair press news is just unacceptable.
I believe in OM in the past, now and in the future, this is a long
term run, it has allways be and Tuxbrain is keep running at OM side,
maybe some time walking and others sitting in a bar taking a beer,
but on the way and never willing to stop.

I just think that if it will be wired together will be more energy
efficient to have an usb keyboard than a bt keyboard+bt neo

to measure how high is that drainage on charge and when battery is

The buzz fix also lowers the sensibility of the microphone avoiding
the echo issue if the speaker volume is raised,

Re: Solar charger (was Re: News Openmoko Shop Pulster)

2009-05-04 Thread David Reyes Samblas Martinez
Christoph and I were talking about this and agree with Christian we
must think on this devices more as auxiliary batteries with a plus
than solar chargers, so the higher capacity the better.
We are interested in offer this in our shops so we will proceed the
following way, as we do with the Slim BT Keyboard, but this time even
more open and community driven.
I will order a sample of the following models from en-hancing.com to
test them and put the results on a wiki page along with some pictures
of them on the field.
SC019 3000mAh cool&rought the more expensive
SC020 3600mAh the highest capacity but seems slightly weaker than sc019
SC018 2600mAh only one solar panel but with higher battery than SC021
and twice cheaper, if it has a mini usb adaptor can be a
better choice for cheaper option

SC021 is only 2000mAh is just a little bit cheaper than
SC019/20 options

You can suggest what test do you like to be performed and I will
publish the results on that wiki.
After that test we(community included in that we) can disscuss what
model fits most of all and I will proceed with an order to have
stock in our shops.
Please be aware than final price will be higher than we have disscused
here, after some quick maths the SC019/20 model will be about 69EUR ,
SC018 about 39EUR, the SC021 about 59EUR(too much for a 2000mAh
battery IMHO) those prices are just to orientate, custom fees and
Euro/dollar equivalence when the order is finally made are really hard
to calculate(near a lottery really) is just to you have an idea.

So the due the other YL series doesn't has more than 2400mAh and to
avoid more shipping/customs costs (really expesive from china). I
think does't worth the effort to try to buy samples from them.

I will keep you informed about the progress of the plan :)
