The SHR image was NOT released.

This is a preview only, we didn't release it yet because we feel it's
not complete enough for a day to day usage basis.
There's also some issues with frameworkd (even MS4, sad to say), which
we would like to settle before any official release.

We would also like to build a graceful failure feature to avoid lots
of complaining about my contacts app crashed ! just because the sim
 PIN wasn't registered yet :-).

I use it on a day to day basis myself, it's quite stable, and I'm
enjoying it, but please do not consider this as a release. This isn't.
 It's merely a preview.

 Hi,

I think openmoko-the-project was founded not by FIC but by a core team
comprising a handfull of german devs (Sean, I guess Harald, and others but
the The original core team page was deleted from the wiki on Sep. 2, 2008).
You could try to contact one of them for a 10mn phone interview.
That's why I put the draft of the chrono, to fix any mistake ;) , until
new order I will omit any FIC refrence
If I may suggest an angle for your story, beyond listing software releases
(btw I would not count Qi in yet), what I find most fascinating is how a
small player can live and prosper in the middle of well entrenched giants.
They/we are heading straight towards Apple and Microsoft marketspace, on the
shoulders of FIC, with Nokia and Swisscom pushing to help, and Google playing
the game with a hidden hand too.
Well this crono y for presentation very introductory oriented, to make
the propoject known to also GNU/Linux public, you orientation is more
for a market/business oportunity one, and maybe is a little to preach to
already converted ;)
But yes this part of Openmoko story is pretty interesting and must be
telled. I will try to work on this later.

Otherwise don't miss the Dash Express deal:
 http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/02/dash-express-powered-by-openmokos-neo-open-source-hardware-plat/
my guess is that was a key early success to the company.
Ok I will add it.

I also expect the significance of the Koolu deal to be clearer before the
end of the year (they must be NDAed to the ears), so if you have a 'future'
section in your talk, don't forget them.
I like the NDAed to the ears expresion :)

Jun 2008 Neo FreeRunner Hits the real world
Jul 2008 FSO milestone 2
Aug 2008 OM2008.8, Debian on Freerunner, Qtopia 4.3.2, Schematics

  http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/feeds/2008/ipk/glibc/armv4t/base/libpurple-libjabber_2.5.0-r0_armv4t.ipk

There was something funny about the rc.local file, which the script
update-rc.d expected to find in /etc/init.d but which were in /etc
I copied it then re-ran update-rc.d and things looked a bit better.

I suspect that I'd be better off abandoning the FDOMizer script and
reinstalling the latest version, which seems a pity because update
  scripts are a great idea.

be carefull, if you add the angstrom repo opkg will try to upgrade
some core libraries of the system like dbus or gtk, this will put FDOM

Chris, you have open the hunting season :-)

If you are from Spain, Portugal or Andorra you can also purcharse this

A little bit more expesive at first look but you will save in shipments

countries.
Rest of Europe better do it through Chris, (in this case ;-) )

is our todo list at the moment:

 * Reduce boot time.
ok

 * Optimize the touch screen driver on freerunner for finger usage.

for me is quite good right now but any improvement are welcome
 * A generic python loader to enhance the start up time of python
   scripts.
YES PLEASE :) this will allow script kiddies like me to help in high
level development and utilities on the phone

 * Work with system team to improve suspend/resume user experience.
yes,

I would like to ask the community:

What do you want us to work on?

 The idea is

 * We improve the current stack, not creating new features.
ok, there a lot of thirparty apps out there than can provide new
features, but they need a rock solid base to be totally cool

 * Prefer stuffs which could be brought over to gta03 instead of
   gta02/om2008 specific.
Not totally agree here, some(a lot of) effort must be done in current
specific gta02 , a clear example is the famous glamo chipset, you are
the only ones who can improve it due NDA as some one else has pointed,
you must struggle(even more) this chipset to extract until the last drop
of it juice.

 * won't work on om2007 stack.
Better make efforts on FSO

So, tell us what you want, then the coding monkeys will start working!
 :)
just work on the basics as you have pointed, and the basic is all
hardware must work without any blocking bug(alas stability) and inside
this stability do it as fast as phisicaly posible.
Fancy apps will come from the community and porting from other distros,
thats the magic on free source :)

not that I could find, not at this point) The usual NOR uBoot menu you
  use

Right Qi's concept is it leaves everything possible to Linux, that
includes even the video init. You can use NOR U-Boot on Freerunner to
do DFU or other U-Boot specific stuff. Qi has a list of bootable
devices and currently will try uSD partition 1 for /boot/uImage.bin, if
that is not working out then it will try the NAND kernel partition.

Currently 2.6.27 doesn't do mtd properly and blows chunks with these CRC
errors, didn't find why yet. But it does work with uSD boot on ext3 OK.

The red LED thing is what we do on kernel panic... it's panicking
because it can't mount the jffs2 part because of the CRC errors, then it
  has no rootfs.

Thanks a lot for trying it and reporting it, you'll get further with uSD
  boot right now.

I finally realized that you meant boot from uSD-based system, rather than
just pull the kernel from uSD - I tried 2.6.27 and 2008.8-update uImage
in /media/card/boot and just got blinking red kernel panic LED.

Now I've successfully booted from uSD with Base Image and 2.6.27. Linux

11 13:06:05 BST 2008 armv4tl unknown. (although every other attempt or so
it seems to hang at a blank console with a blinking cursor, not really
 mapped that behavior out yet)

Which one way or another goes to highlight that Qi - as it stands now and
from what I understand of the intention for it - will not be usable for a
dual-boot setup. Not a problem actually, as NOR uBoot will let us achieve
that, and I realize that the common target case will be a user who wants a
smartphone, not a multiboot development platform. I just realized that the
default behavior of Qi being uSD and the default behavior of uBoot being
NAND means you could place 'primary' on uSD and 'secondary' in NAND, and
booting to secondary is just two-step - NOR boot with aux+power, then power
again to boot. Don't you love that feeling when things start to click? :)
Now I have Base/Empty firing up by default, Raster+FSO if I use aux to
 invoke NOR Uboot.

 j
I'm not a kernel hacker only a user, but as I undertand It would be
better to invert that behaviour, better to primary boot from NAND and
then secondary boot on uSD, a normal user must boot his phone even
without any uSD. Normal boot to nand, and if you want to boot from
anything else do something else. It's a pitty than NOR uboot doesn't
allow to boot from uSD by default, but this fault does't have to change
the logical behaviour NAND is attached to the phone and is less likely

If there's NO uSD, or the uSD doesn't contain a folder named 'boot' on the
first partition, with a file named 'uImage.bin', then Qi will boot from
NAND. It's just if you WANT a dual-boot environment that currently Qi
doesn't let you do that simply. As Andy noted in his response to that
post, however, he plans for Qi to support user selection of boot, it just
doesn't do it at this time. Until it offers the ability to select, then
the present behavior (check for kernel on uSD, else use NAND) makes more
sense that always going to NAND and only NAND.

 j
OK that make sense , I have not fully understood Qi boot mechanism thaks
for your explanation Joel :)

Re: The Lost Openmoko Community

2008-10-04 Thread David Samblas
When some body feels lost is because he doen't planned the trip enough,
before come in strange territory you must have maps and read about uses
and customs of the aboriginal and if the case earn enough of their
language to , when if all plans fail, ask where you are and how to go
any where.

I'm a foreigner too, but when I feel lost I don't sit down and cry, I
search for a more actualiced guide or ask , aboriginals here are very
friendly, and even a lot of experienced foreigner are happy to help you
too.

As you post in you blog you just arrive , you take a quick look to a
totally strange territory an you complain you feel lost and not
confortable in any place here, if like you there are other, instead of
keep this flamming post growing and growing ,get you hands dirty and
began to work, you haven't to be a high kernel hacker to help, you can
translate and/or review wiki, you can focus on a app and report even
stetical issues (as some one in the post has already suggest..),

About FDOM you have a bad perspective, FDOM is posible because a lot of
people had been working to make OM2008.08, Illume, and a every app
inside FDOM, is posible because people has make public their tweakings
in the wiki or in this list, and even talk to me or in the devel list to
make suggestions and/or directly work. FDOM has began as a shared simply
backup of my own phone, and now is near to be the first distro that
will have their rootfs (bad) managed in a svn repository, yeah we put
the binaries and yes we know svn was thinked to manage source code,
but source code is not the business of FDOM right now, we are only
focused on pimping whatever OM has decide to be their base distro, if
they finally change to an FSO based distro I will be happy to pimping it
too, even If I have to redo all work from zeto. I have done it a lot of
times to test and to try to improve things. FDOM has not born for a
need, FDOM has been born thanks to all the work done before, including
the phone where it runs.
This is a public request to all those you like FDOM, If you like FDOM
then you like OM2008.X, FDOM=OM+things already done by others ,
please stop comparation and using FDOM as weapon against itself.

I will already ask to please, stop this post right now in the tone it
has began.

And maybe I wrong and now i will post a personal opinion, You have your
own blog to post you opinions, you have appeared in planet, as you
already said people has post their opinions in your blog post, you have
said nothing new in this post than have not already said in you blog,
there was a need to do it?

Thanks to all to make me, and colaboratos, able to make FDOM

 Hi!

After my previous blog post [1] about Openmoko 2007.2 distribution and
the Openmoko community I got some comments proving that like me, some
other people feel that the community is lost and uninformed. This post
is a follow up to the previous post and the comments I got.

I've understood that 2007.2 still ships with the phones. As soon as
one gets his new c00l Freerunner linux phone they need to flash the
phone with a new distro (2008.x or Debian, FDOM, SHR, Gentoo, Qtopia,
FSO.. [6]) since the software it ships with is obsolete. OK, so you
get your 2008.x there and find that it doesn't really do all the magic
and would like to report a bug.

 BUGS
I don't know how others feel but I really don't feel like reporting
bugs in the bug tracker [3]. OK, I'm running an unsupported distro
(2007.2) so there's one reason but I also feel that it's okay to post
kernel bugs only there, not anything that a normal user would see in
his GUI. Is this correct or just a feeling or misunderstanding?
Remember that all Freerunner owners and people here in the community
are not kernel developers. I don't even know how to save back traces
or hack the source code but I'm happy to report if something doesn't
work and then when someone more skillful finds what's wrong and
eventually fixes it, I'm again happy to try if the fix works for me.
For some reason I feel that there's no space in the community for
 users like me.

 DISTROS
So it's 2008.x now. No, wait.. there are FDOM [5] and SHR [2] around
that are not far from 2008.x. Is 2007.2 still developed and lead by
Openmoko or by the community? Do the community developers have access
to the files so that new releases can be made or is SHR the closest to
2007.2 you can get to? My feeling is that there was a lack of
information about why 2007.2 was forgotten and new 2008.x series was
started and that something weird is happening in the official distros
that creates a need for FDOM and SHR - why don't the developers feel
ok to contribute directly to 2007.x and 2008.x but 'fork' their own
 distros?

 INFORMATION
I think that what makes me feel lost is the lack of information about
what's happening in the community. I don't know what's the development
 status of the software

Re: [FDOM]: where are the sources?

2008-09-27 Thread David Samblas
FDOM is not source based, is basically a backup of my phone :), I(we)
install a 2008.X base distro and then add packages through opkg and fix
some things manually , tweaking config files and adding packages from
other repositories resolving dependencies manually too.

We are creating a svn server with a full rootfs to be able to install it
on the phone and commit directly from the phone the tweaks we do, but
actualy I was unable to boot from the checkout of the svn more info at
the fdom-devel list

[FDOM] new release 20080927

2008-09-26 Thread David Samblas
Hi all,
on http://compartida.net/openmoko/FDOM/ you have disponible the new FDOM
release.
I have just erase previous release because there are some annoying bugs
withs calls and no sound.
But his has gone thanks to nickd,

This release is not as tested as 2008.08 ones but include things, that
sure, gonna make you smile, 29 Games :), orrery 2.0, a mplayer frontend
pythm, and things than have the last updated not anounced jalimo with
java se and me, navit, linphone (not tested but surely some people will
smile twice, isn't it Michel Siloh? :) ) in addition to FDOM
classics :)

As you may notice this is a large amount of programs so in order to not
blow away the home with icons I have included a raw, dirty, and a little
bit slow script in pygtk that acts as popupmenu /usr/bin/FDsubmenu.py,
surely a c/elf program will be more quick and integrated but just I have
no time to learn it(yet). Futures versions will include the icon image.
Feel free to modify and add features of course.

Regarding colaborations , First thanks nacho and armin because without
them this release will has not been posible,
if you want to colaborate reporting bugs, improvements or sugestions we
have a project in http://projects.openmoko.org/projects/fdom/ with a
devel list
http://lists.projects.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/fdom-development

thanks to armin, we have also a svn server svn://zoup.org/Fdom with an
2008.09 that we want to transform in a better FDOM but here I call for
help, Armin has his neo temporaly out of order, and I was unable to put
the svn checkout to boot in a sd card, I want to do this to be able to
have a quick way to summit changes, and have a more efective way to make
various people to tweak the distro at same time.
So if any one succeded to boot froma svn extraction please contacr us to
tell us how
I will try to update the wiki tomorrow with the modifications but any
help will be apreciated here too :)

I have not included the kernel image because still the 2008.09 one

 Hi there,
I've just moved to FDOM and I love it.

I have a few ideas to make it better - these aren't criticisms - it's
great at the moment - these are just ideas to make it better - I don't
expect anyone to agree about all of them, but these are suggestions...

 # Midori(with the settings tweaked) is better for the screensize than
minimo - I find it more usable
Please pass me a link to how to tweak it I will take a look

 # accel-rotate program, or a way to start/stop it - this is a simple
script to use the accelerometers to rotate with xrandr. It seems quite
stable. An ipkg is available - http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Rotate
a way to easyly start/stop will be helpfull

When I was running 22007.2, two cool programs I had from Angstrom were:

 # Quasar - a x11 mplayer front end.
This is not perfect for the freerunner - it ideally needs some UI work
doing (more than just setting tweaking), especially on it's fonts,
however, i have launched mpg QVGA videos with it and watched them as
well as listening to music with it.
used pythm isted but I take a look at Quasar

 # Claws Mail
A lightweight mail client - with a bit of UI tweaking from the view menu
makes a completely usable mail client. Since we have qmail, I guess this
is not necessary, but it's a thought.

 # FBreader?
I would love to see an ebook reader but I think there are big dependency
 issues here :(

 # Games
Personally, I would prefer to get rid of sudoku and to possibly to get
 kobodeluxe on there.
Though not ready yet, keeping an eye on
 http://projects.openmoko.org/projects/accelgame might be good.

 # lint-wifi
Personally, I prefer lint-wifi to mofi. I really like being able to see
the network info it displays (ie IP, DNS DDHCP) as it helps
troubleshooting stuff when things dont work :P
 http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Lint-wifi

 # wpa_supplicant.conf
Possibly modify the default the wpa_supplicant.conf to automatically
connect to unencrypted wifi hotspots? :-/

I can't help too much - my stupid OM setup script - (givemeteh)apppznow
is pretty much obsolete as a result of FDOM :) so I will help in the
ways I can. I have joined the development list and considering all the
spare high speed bandwidth I have, I've set up a mirror -
 http://files.tdobson.net/openmoko/freerunner/fadom/

We are also working in a script that way, any help well be apreciated
and I will taka a ook at your script too
At some point soon I'll get rid of the 'a' in fadom :P
I have the mania of call it fsdom... so dont worry, please update the
mirror list in the wiki

Cheers for the good work, keep it up! :D
Thank :)

What you usually want to run is a MIDlet or MIDP application. For this
you can either use the microemulator or MIDPath on top of either
 Cacao+GNU Classpath or PhoneME Advanced.

You can install midpath for OpenMoko through the Jalimo repository. All
of this is in OE. So it could be added to the official feeds as well.

Running MIDPath on PhoneME Advanced (PMEA for short) is currently not
possible due to a bug in the MIDPath version in OE. I hope I can
convince Guillaume to release another RC soon so that I can base the
 recipes in OE on it.

For the user PMEA would have the advantage that it is tried and tested
Sun code and additionally really fast. It is also compatible to SWT and
can as such run application that are compatible to J2SE 1.3.

btw, thanks for the info about qtopia crashing afer an opkg
update/upgrade, it was driving me nuts
Sorry , if there is a way to protect files from being updadated will be
very handy but seems opkg stills not doing so

Re: FDOM updated

2008-09-13 Thread David Samblas
Hi Yann
I strongly recomend you to allways flash the last release because I
perform some manual adjustements that will be not updated through opkg
update/ugrade
If you are using the first release 20080905 you should comment the
following lines in /etc/opkg.conf (I have missed to do so, fixed on the
following releases)

# Proxy Support
#option http_proxy http://192.168.0.200:6588
#option ftp_proxy ftp://192.168.0.200:21

But again I recomend you to download and flash the lastest, or install
in the sdcard , now I release a tar.gz file too to do so.

Regards

David

 Hi there

 Thanks for the update.
I've a question about that : do we need to reflash the neo with image
file for each release or an opkg update/upgrade will be enough ?

I've been trying the first release but wasn't able to opkg
update/upgrade (conflicts in opkg sources list).

Will next releases available by repository or something else ?

 Thanks for your answer

 Hi list,

I finally managed to download the FDOM 20080909 here in Tchad - over a
128kbps line this takes some time ;)
Wow and I was complaining because of my slow 60kb/s upload rate...
there are brave linux warriors out there arround the world

And now the bad news ... there is and updated version 20080913 a little
bigger but has remoko and Pidgin and some other fixes :) se the wiki
page for more info

http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/FDOM_-_a_Fat_and_Dirty_OM_based_distribution

After fighting with the device and
suppressing the old debian from the MicroSD-card, it kind of runs nice.
So here are my first impressions:

 - Delete OMView - I don't see the idea of this file-browser. On my phone
it shows a very small font and I don't get it anyway
I have fixed the theme and now looks more integrated on 200808 is not a
file browser is a picture viewer with a filebrowser to find the
pictures :)
 - Delete the installer at the bottom of the display - it's useless and
 takes away space
Please post how to do it, I will readd the installer as other app when i
was able to make submenus but I will be very happy if you tellme how to
remove the bottom bar.

 - Suspend/Resume doesn't work reliably. Reading the list I tried
* starting with external power attached - it works
* starting without external power attached - it doesn't
well, I tried only 2 times, so this might not be statistically
conclusive. Anybody else sees the same thing?
If it helps you , while auto suspend/resume has this issues I have
disabled the auto suspend and only enable the blank screen, I supend it
manually trough the power button and I have no problem at all, it wakes
up on calls, and when I push the power button again.
 - SSH not working - I have to restart it by hand. I'm looking into this one
strange, I have no such problem and no advice any one else has

 - MicroSD corruption - I got bitten by this one. But I can't recall
whether it's the FDOM or the Debian I had on it.

I had to say I has a testing distro on the sdcard and any version of
2008.08-updates or FDOM has corrupted it I
Besides that, I changed the main SIM-card again to the NEO, I'll try it
again as my main phone. And phypt rocks! You just need the keyboard to
 restart levels and such.

 Thanks,
Thanks to you and your patience to download it
Regards and a big hug

Seems you have been catched by the config issue, please do what
indicated on the Warning part of the wiki

cp /etc/X11/Xsession /etc/X11/Xsession.d/89qtopia.bk~
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/89qtopia

and reboot the neo

Do that any time qtopia-x11 is updated (or when you have the simptoms

Solid GSM (Sending and Receiving). No Echo, clear calls, full bars.
My SIM Card contact list imported automatically.
  SMS, Solid.
  Wifi, also works great.
GPS works. 60 second TTFF and 40 second TTFF w/ external antenna (This is
 without the capacitor fix)
  microSd works.
Suspend/Resume .. solid (minus the GUI setting having no effect. but I
don't care, I just suspend manually with the power button when I'm not using
 it).
I made a usb cable, so now my phone can receive standard USB devices.. this
 opens many doors.

When I was shopping for a mobile computer/phone, I scraped the planet for

software that goes through a Telecom company, which is then purposely

is based on a Business model that nickels and dimes us to death for

the only answer for me was to by the GTA02.

I'd like to say, that I'm here to stay, on the band wagon, lets kick some

I will try to anser to the question can FDOM help?

 Hi all,

(to be fare: I compare with my 4 years old sony ericsson P900 phone,
and that one wins without problems for now)
(Warning: no ranting please, I'm just summing up all current bugs I
encounter and hope to get some pointers for fixes)

For the moment I seem to be unable to find a distro where the basics
work without issues (and I flashed/upgraded/installed already a number
 of times):

 - booting time: 2/3 minutes for asu. I can accept this for a beta
functioning device, but I hope this gets better in the future. Yes, I
know the wiki page for this ... luckely I don't reboot py phone too
 often
No same as 2008.8-updates
 - receive calls: calls arrive double on qtopia distro (not asu, no no
sim card issue here), so for each call I end up having a missed call
 entry as well. Very annoying.
 - speaker: qtopia emits a very loud tone when on speaker
 - echo: the asu distro doesn't have the echo fix yet
I don't know what asu version did you tried but I have no detected echo
problems on the 2008.8-updates, so FDOM has no echo
 - choose a ringtone: ok, I can replace the wav file, but come on, no
app available at all for asu?
No but If anyone develop one I will include it on FDOM as soon as
aviable
 - alarm: I use my cell phone for wake-up calls, but ASU isn't reliable
to give me the alarm. The phone unsuspends on time, but the alarm
doesn't sound, or an undetermined amount of minutes too late. This
seems to be the only phone in the world with this problem...
I have readed (not tested yet) than the last 2008.8-updates has solve
this problem
 - prevent the copying of sim-card contacts to your phone (qtopia and
asu). Ok, I can remove them from the sim, or change the sqlite db on
te phone, but this is a basic setting on any phone.
 - remove all contacts from the phone (qtopia and asu). Again I can
just clean up the sqlite db file here, but a simple sql script
executed by a gui would be nice.
I was able to delete the contacts and messages directly from the apps on
the phone without the sim card, and no need to access the sqlite db.

 - mplayer: plays mp3 just fine, but qtopia or asu media players are
unable to play back one mp3 fine without hickups or distortion
(distortion can be fixed by editing the mp3 and decreasing the volume
by 20dB). Is this gstreamer bogging down the phone or just bad mp3
 decoding?
I don't know, but I was thinking about do a basic frontend to mplayer
like the omview to replace the media player, a file filebrowser and a
basic control trough mouse gestures in the touch screen, but no find
time yet to get my hands dirty on this
 - wifi: why on earth isn't wifi taking the nameservers given by dhcp?
Is it the resolvconf issue that needs fixing here? Even my old archos
430 did that just fine from the beginning. Now I needed the usb0
connection working just to be able to get the wifi working, since no
terminal app is installed by default on the phone. I did use the
resolvconf wiki page to help me out here, but no dice for encrypted
 networks. Mofi maybe?
Both a terminal and Mofi are included on FDOM, but is courios, I have to
not to conect to usb before I want the wifi to make it work :)
 - speed: asu reaction time is just too slow. Qtopia is reasonable
 here.
I have no feel any relevance diference here (I't true I have not tested
the last qtopia version, so no much criteria here) FSDOM will have the
same reaction as 2008.8-updates
 - bluetooth: no app on asu, and the qtopia-x11 bluetooth app doesn't
 do anything.
Remoko is tested an will be included in the next version of FSDOM it
works through bluethooth, so don't loos you hope yet :)

I haven't even tried image viewing yet, or gps ...
I'ts a pitty freerunnes has a great resolution on image, and on sunny
days gps works pretty well
I would have thought to be able to iron out bugs and such, but I was
expecting basic working functionality. For now I have my freerunner
lying on my desk at home, doing nothing at all ...
Poor freerunner, surelly a lot of clean-soul good geeks but with no
resources will be happy to take care of this freerunner, make it
complile, or test new apps , or only taking a walk to help complete
OSM,or...(add here a trillion of things people are doing/want to do if
the had a neo)

Does the fdom version of ASU addresses some of the plain asu issues?
Or any help solving some of these? I *really* want to show off my
 freerunner ...
Fat and Dirty Openmoko is nothing more than a 2008.8-update with apps
installed and some fixes maybe it can fit you needs or not only you can
anwer that question, try it and if you are happy/unhappy please let me
know, I will be glad if you can send me and exhaustive bug/improvements
list as you have done with other distributions.

rootfs/kenel image ready to flash of an OM2008.08-updates
distribution with some apps already installed and some fixes
 posted in the lists done.

here you have more detailed information

 http://compartida.net/openmoko/FDOM/README.txt

I recommend you to use wget -c to retrieve the files because
of the server seems to cut the connection time to time, a most
robust mirror is on the way

Sugesstions , comments, and anything else will be welcome

 Nice work guy!
Thanks, man
I would propose that instead of creating yet another distribut (tm)
you provide modified packages that can just be installed through OPKG
 on Om2008.x
2 main reasons I will not do it

The intention is to have an online aviable demo image file ready to
flash (nothing more nothing less) fell free to compare it with an Clean
OM2008.08 and add all dependenciecies and the modified confs in one ipkg
and then I only will asure it will work on a clean om2008.08-update of
the day the ipkg was made but I believe is quick an easier to flashit or
untarit to a sdcard partition (next FSDOM release will have tar.gz
version :) I promise)

Second (composed) reason
Time constrains, lack of knowlege and lazyness, I have all of them :)
What do you think? It's no criticism, just a thought.
I prefer to give ideas to those who already upload packages to
Multiverse. So if some modification I make on FSOM goes upstream then
next releases will catch his own modification when updated :)

I can provide you with server CPU time to build the packages and
upload them to Multiverse for example.

No unwarranted assumption, the only argument you could throw back at me

an argument against using Gentoo instead of any .deb or .rpm based

Please, no distro-war, you're free to kill your flash devices sooner ;)

 Cool,

 please?

Hello everyone, it's my first post here. :-)

It might be blunt, but does anyone have old images of 2008.8-update without
this problem with unconditional suspend? Or maybe there could be an archive
of, say, week of packages (they have date in their filename anyway), so if
 one
version doesn't suddenly do what you want, you can always try the previous
 one?

 Best regards,

testing 20080901 first steps to 2008.09??

2008-09-01 Thread David Samblas
I'm only corious, I have being taking a look to the
http://downloads.openmoko.org/daily/testing-om-gta02-20080901.rootfs.tar.gz
intalling it to my sd card,

Inspite the it's really barebones, I have seen very interestings things by
default,
the raster ilume pack:
  qwerty on/off button
the illume keyboard (oh Yes! :) )
  illume configuration

the backgound image is pretty zen and beatifull and screen dims smothly.

Of course it's not functional at all because it has no apps but settings
(that doesn't work for me), and I was unnable to ssh to it so I was no able
to not further testing, but doesn't matter because is clear is a proof-of
concept release. I will wait for the next test release (maybe tomorrow?,
it's a really dayly?)

My question is , I can assume the good things mentioned avobe will be
mantained in the oficial (semi-stable) 2008.09 release?

Have you decide the date off that 2008.09 release?
