GTA02 Screen dissasembly issues..

2013-06-15 Thread Πρεκατές Αλέξανδρος
Trying to remove my broken LCD from GTA02 i run into the following issue:

In the manual of GTA04 in page21 it mentions 4 conducting silver pads only
glued to the PCB .

Unfortunately i think (see attachment photo) i damaged those pads.
Could please someona assest the damage. Can i proceed to connect the LCD
replacement or i'll have problems?

What's the use of those pads?

Also in one corner a part of a black coating has gone.:-) Is that bad?

alexandros.

(ps: i didnt use the blow dryer :-/)
(ps2: althought partly my fault i think the manual needs improvement in the
LCD removal section .)

I ordered a new LCD from goldelico finaly.

But i'm wondering if in the spirit of first PC-era specs could be published so
there were more alts, eg: a more low-cost low-res display. (to be frank the
LCD costs 58€. The vat, and trasport fees pump up the final value to 80€).

Re: GTA02 Screen broken..

2013-05-31 Thread Πρεκατές Αλέξανδρος
maybe just the connector got a bit loose?
with help of the disassembling guide you should be able to check.

I dont know if you've seen the image i sent. That screen could happen
from a connector problem? I mean in the screen the tear is ,as i see it,
apparent. If that's possible i'd be happy to try.

I'm considering to buy an replacement part but i wouldnt mind if i could
get a lower resolution with less money.

GTA02 Screen broken..

2013-05-30 Thread Πρεκατές Αλέξανδρος

After my baby came into the world chaos is visiting my workroom more frequent
and entropy's level is critical :-)

Trying to move a mouse's cable created a cascade effect to a dozen of other
cables behind my tower including the usb cable connected to my beloved GTA02.

You can see the result in the attached pictures.

The fall was half a meter.

The neo hit ground landing on other cable. The screen didnt hit an object's
angle or corner.

So my non-technical guess , for what its worth ,is that it must happen from
the shock of the impact to its case.

There is no fractures on the screen's glass . It seems that the fracture
that's visible on the screen is on a layer beneath.

The touch screen is functional ,even on the part of the screen that's messed
up.

 Hi Alexandros,

Well, it seems good, the freerunner regonizes the card and loads the
kernel. The kernel panic is as expected, there is just a kernel on the
card and no distro yet. Could you try to install the root files system
 from [2] ?
After you installed it make sure to install the kernel in /boot as
 uImage-GTA02.bin and add the /boot/append-GTA02.
(you could make a tar file before installing the rootfs)

 in cut and paste style:
 mkdir /tmp/mpt
 mount /dev/sde1 /tmp/mpt
 cd /tmp/mpt
 tar -czf /tmp/old_boot.tgz ./boot
 tar -xzvpf /the/downloaded/qtmoko-debian-v31.tar.gz
 tar -xzvpf /tmp/old_boot.tgz
 cd /
 umount /tmp/mpt
 eject /dev/sde

put the card in the freerunner and boot using qi
That should give you a working distro.
Please let us know any success/failure!

 Kind regards,
 Ed

 Hi Alexandros,

I use sd cards to run a distro and it works fine ( there are some
problems with the speed an reliability ) I would suggest to format the sd
card as one partion with ext2 (on a pc with a sd card reader for example)
and put the qtmoko kernel in the /boot directory of the card and name it
 uImage-GTA02.bin.

 And write console=tty0 loglevel=3 rootwait panic=10
 glamo_mci.sd_max_clk=500 glamo_mci.sd_post_power_clock=500
 glamo_mci.sd_slow_ratio=16 in /boot/append-GTA02

Could you please report back what happens when you try to boot then from
the SD card. It should start a kernel and panic at the end loading the
kernel. ( there is no init yet) Please hold the power button to get some
 diagnostics printed on your screen.

 Kind regards,
 Ed

 cut and paste:
 mke2fs /dev/sdb1 ( assuming /dev/sdb is your sd card )
 mkdir /tmp/mpt
 mount /dev/sdb1 /tmp/mpt
 mkdir /tmp/mpt/boot

 glamo_mci.sd_slow_ratio=16  /tmp/mpt/boot/append-GTA02 umount /tmp/mpt
 eject /dev/sdb

put the card in the freerunner and boot using qi.

Some questions:
1)For example why there is need each dist to have its customized bootloader
file? Doesnt that imply that there is no general bootloader working like in
desktop pcs?

2)Why generally speaking its so difficult to boot from a sdcard? Is the microsd
interface closed and thus a libre drivers has holes? Is it a card's fault ?
(in what way , shouldnt they comply with a standard? ). Is it glamo hardware
