I use QtE 4.4.2 and have no echo with this fix:
http://www.csamuel.org/2009/01/08/echo-suppression-fix-for-qt-extended-442-on-openmoko-neo
No problem with the sound either (I use only this fix, not the fix that

It works on 4.4.1 too

Sound from mediaplayer in Qt Extended 4.4.1 is bad

2008-10-10 Thread Alexander Frøyseth
Hello
The sound from the Qtopia mediaplayer is "on and off" the is breaks in
the song, like if someone is pause the song every now and then.

It can also suddenly change song, or stop the song, pause the song.

I believe that the bad guy here is the new controllpanel that isn't
fully implemented yet, the "old" controllers still are there.

Hi all,

I've been trying to view a few jpg images I put on the FR.

No matter if they are in the Documents folder in memory or on the uSD,
there is no way I get to see even the filename of any of them.

Is there a guide or a wiki-page on how the FR recognises files, or am I
doing dumb things?

I think this is because of the battery that is already out of power.

Apparently (and I've seen it too...), it won't charge when it isn't
booted, and booting is a problem because of a flat battery.

AFAIK the only option at the moment is to use a replacement battery.
Most people with a Nokia phone can lend you one...

Boot with the replacement battery, put in USB power (or the wall
charger), pull out the (spare) battery and put in your empty battery.
Red light behind AUX should turn on to indicate charging.

Does anyone know WHY it don't charge when it is off?
My logic says that it is very important to have the option charge the
battery when it is flat.

Well, to this one I had a guess that since there were European
resellers in the first place but openmoko.com itself does not have any
places in Europe, it was fastest and cheapest for the first customers
to deliver 900 phones to the European market as soon as possible via
the resellers. On the other hand at first there were no US resellers
so it was best to sell 850 phones via the direct openmoko.com shop as
they can quite cheaply post them to US.

Just guesses, but I don't think there is any conspiracy anywhere :)

If you're in Europe, I think that buying from USA isn't so cheap since

No import tax, or any other taxes :)

And the shipping from US to Norway cost for all ten the same as the
extra on two phones ;)
We have paid 2500 NOK (about 488USD) for each mobile (this include

A PCB that are just plugged into the miniUSB inside the new case.
So that you use the old miniUSB to power the PCB and then make another
miniUSB contact in the new case.

That have to be cool :D
And easy for every noob to connect (if it is easy to change case)

Just change the case and connect the usb cable to the old miniUSB inside

adapter for any standard cellphone headset? (or does anybody know of 3.5mm
headSET standards or adapters?)

B) 3.5mm

or

C) 3.5mm with 4 contacts, BUT backward compatible with standard 3.5mm
headphones jacks. This mean that the mic contact must be the one which
is far from the ground contact, not at the tip one like in GTA01 (and
GTA02?)

C) is exactly what we planned thus far. You can easily create an adapter from
3.5mm 4ring male to 2.5mm GTA01/2-style receptacle. Anyway I didn't see these
adapters for sale anywhere, so I came with this poll to you.

Thanks everybody for your quick answers. Seems 3.5 is very popular and we
planned for he right thing :-)

Finally I've found something!

Einstein from freeyourphone.de got a Freerunner and started a very
good report [1], also if it's only in German (Google Language tools
could help you, but I hope that the review author will post some
informations written in English here too), it states that actually the
battery lasts about 8-8.5 hours in standby (!= suspend mode, so with
running CPU).

He doesn't exactly say what he's running, but at least GSM is going.
I agree in saying that this is a good starting point, since the
suspend-mode (so with most devices off) isn't yet available in
Freerunner (due to kernel bugs, I guess) and that should increase (a
lot) the battery life.

I hope that both Einstein and Kevin Dean would post other informations
about this important topic.

The 10 pack will have to be ordered by one person. It will ship to that
persons location.

Now, how will people arrange to do this? I thought long and hard about
this.

And then I realized that some people will find one way, one guy pays and
others promise to pay him. Some people will find another way, half up

If testing shows problems, possibly another 6 weeks for another cycle?

Marco, you would have to wait either way - either everyone waits for

seems like a really clear choice to me.

I'd like to wait, but my actual phone is dieing every day more and

evasion on a public mailinglist isn't the world's brightest idea. On
the other hand, If he'd prefer to pay less VAT there is a way for
Norwegians to do so. Norwegians are allowed to bring into Norway wares
worth up to 6000NOK (about 1200USD) _IF_ they spend a minimum of 24
hours abroad. If Flexd really want to avoid paying VAT I'd recommend
him to order a freerunner from a EU dealer and ship it _post restante_
to a swedish post office. Then he'l have to pick it up after
spending a day&night in sweden.
Post restante= Old postal tradition where mail and packages are
adressed to a post office rather than a person. Such packages are then
retained for two weeks _without_ notice. The recipient has to pick
it up and prove their identity before the post office releases such
mail/packages.
When that have been said, why cant flexd join the norwegian 10pack
order?

Yes, you are right, i was thinking that buying a 10pack phone is
always cheaper than buying a single phone due to the shipping

costs. I'd like to know the eu price and if it's convenient to buy
the phone in eu, else there are some services that you can
subscribe for 10$ which give you an us address so you buy the phone
and send them there, after that you pay the shiping cost from there
to your nation, this can let you to not pay VAT, don't know how
much it's legal but i'd like to get more info on this services

Thank you for that post.
This clear things up a bit.

steve skrev:

The reasons are twofold.

1. The board was designed to operate at 400MHZ. It was designed to run at
400Mhz because the CPU we chose was rated at 400MHz. So running faster than
400MHZ is NOT within the design spec. The phone will ship with a 500MHZ
processor because that is what we can buy. Simple. we ordered 400 MHZ.
we designed to 400Mhz, and the part we can physically purchase is 500MHZ.

So, if I say its 400MHZ and somebody checks the chip, they will say " HEY
it's 500MHZ" and if I say its 500MHZ and somebody checks the speed it runs
at they will say " HEY its 400 Mhz"

2. Even if I could run it at 500Mhz the battery life would suffer.

So. We designed it to run at 400. All the cpus are rated at 500.
