Thanx for your reply!

I tried the commands as told by you. It worked as you said, returned

using iwconfig eth0 after this it returned

noise level : -96 dbm
Rx invalid nwid : 0
Rx invalid crypt : 0
Rx invalid frag : 0
Tx excessive retries : 0

However when i try to ping my computer from FR, it does not respond. I used
the ethernet adapter ip address of my laptop to ping.

Also please tell me that how should i find the default ip of free runner. i
am using ifconfig command for this purpose.

Re: Using Wi-Fi

2010-05-27 Thread urodelo
Hi.
Basically, for knowing network configuration type:

cat /etc/network/interfaces

Freerunner by default uses dhcp for getting an ip address. If you want to
use a static IP, you just need to do as I've told you before
ifconfig eth0 ipofyourfreerunner
where ipofyourfreerunner is the IP address you want to use, for example
192.168.1.100 (must be of the same network class of the notebook wifi
card). Mind that both wifi card on freerunner and notebokk must use static
IP in this case, which is not the default. So you need to change them.
Moreover, if you have used the cable IP address of your notebook as
default gateway, as I understood, this doesn't work! You need to use the
wifi card IP address of the notebook! At this moment, do not consider the
cable adapter of your notebook, think that it doesn't exist.

iwconfig output shows the card is up and running. however there's no
essid. Even if hidden, i think you should see the name there if you're
connected. This can mean that you're out of range or you didn't put the
correct essid
By the way, you should set the wifi connection in ad-hoc mode on both
freerunner and notebook (if supported). On linux you just have to type:

iwconfig eth0 mode ad-hoc

On the notebook I guess there should be a wizard for setting it up...

Last, if it is possible I suggest you to try to connect the freerunner to
a real access point first, which maybe could use dhcp and make everything
easier for you; you can still exchange files between notebook and fr by
connecting both to the same ap. After understanding a bit how it works,
then you can try to set an ad-hoc network between teh notebook and the fr,
which is a bit more complicate

Re: Using Wi-Fi

2010-05-26 Thread urodelo
Hi,
I don't know if you already know how to use a linux system, so that you
can understand the command line. There are some softwares for enabling the
wifi on shr and qtmoko, but with wep basically they never worked for me.
However others told me on this ml about an application for shr, called
iliwi, which works with wep if you are using dhcp on you access point, if
i remember well it already comes with a fresh shr installation. If you
can't use it, because don't have a dhcp server, open a terminal window and
type following commands:

ifconfig eth0 ipofyourfreerunner
route add default gw ipofyourwindowspc
iwconfig eth0 essid yournetworkessid key yourHEXpassphrase

both IP should own to the same network class (ex 192.168.2.202 and
192.2.200). For me, I always need to issue those commands twice for makind
it work; I know I'm connected when the 2nd time I get :
SIOCADDRT: file exists.

Type iwconfig eth0 in a terminal, if it shows that it's associated to the
ap/pc, you can now try to ping your default gateway, and if it works, you
can transfer the file to your pc.

I suggest you to put all the above commmands inside a bash script to run
when you need, it'll be faster and easier

For SIP and VOIP over XMPP the N8xx uses telepathy[0] and farsight[1] as

If we're talking about Skype, then Skype for Nokia N800 is more likely to

I do totally agree with this, btw a skype client could be useful to
contact friends (both by voice and by chatting) that are using the skype
client on different platforms.
I use skype really few times, but I must admit that is the easier way to

Using Wi-fi on Neo FreeRunner

2008-03-11 Thread Mary Stovel
I have been following this list almost since the beginning with much
interest. In fact, I named my dog Moko. I am just an occasional
user of a cell phone, no tech or development experience. I also
have Voip service at home and when away from home use Gizmo Project
to make long distance calls over my computer.

I am hoping someone can enlighten me before I buy... when the
consumer version arrives. What I envision is using the FreeRunner as
my T-mobile cell phone by inserting my sim card and also as my home
phone over wi-fi. so I can cancel my present Voip service and have
one phone. I use T-mobile prepaid and do not have a data service
plan. I have wi-fi and high speed internet using an ibook at home.

My questions are... how will the FreeRunner connect using wi-fi so
that I can make a call? I know that Truephone and Gizmo have
applications that can be downloaded into a cell phone (mostly on the
Nokia N and E models). So it seems that I will need a Voip service
that is compatible with the Neo FreeRunner.anyone know or is it
too early since we do not have the phone in hand. I do not want to
buy a data service plan to surf the internet on a cell phone. So
will I be able to download new applications into the FreeRunner over
my high speed without one?

 Thanks for any info

I haven't heard of any VOIP service with a client available for
OpenMoko. Someone else probably has better info on this.

As far as loading new applications, you will not need a data plan to
do that. You could download them straight to the Neo over wi-fi or
load them onto the Neo over USB from your computer.
