But if you wanna port Android onto the new OpenMoko.
I'm sure GNUtoo will be pleased to do this too, as soon
as he got a new OpenMoko.

Guys,

For those of you interested in running/building/improving Android on the
Freerunner, check out http://code.google.com/p/android-on-freerunner/. Cupcake
is stable and working on the Freerunner. We've recently received some patches
which should have resolved issues with sound via Bluetooth (thanks to Zhang
Yi). Froyo is still under construction. Ran and Jim are working on some patches
to improve the Froyo branch. Cupcake and Froyo are now available in SD only or
NAND installations (thanks to Christian and Ran).

The project mailinglist can be found here:
http://groups.google.com/group/android-on-freerunner.

It would be great to see what co-operation is possible with other initiatives
also targetting Android on the Freerunner. Feel free to post your ideas on the
AoF list to discuss with the AoF community.

Kind regards,

Niels.

Hi again.
Thank you for your answers. I really hope those interested in android
related work can cooperate and improve together. I say this just as a
humble freerunner user.

Niels,
thank you, I've red what you've written on the board at Replicant website.
I need to clarify that I'm actually not related in any way to Replicant
project, neither I'm the one who has tried to get contacts with aof before
(that's because you couldn't see my email address in your inbox etc); I've
just seen their project and asked them about infos, then I've wondered
about it's knowledge into the openmoko community, because I've never heard
about it on this ml or other related to openmoko. After telling this, I
think teh people of aof, replicant and those interested in them, could go
on with this discussion together on the mailing lists of aof and replicant.
I'll later join the two ml to see if I can be of any help, even I'm not
able to program either my working day... :-P

Thanks to all and sorry if I've used this ml for something which maybe
wasn't so strictly related to it's main discussions

You got me wrong.
I'm talking of the gta04.
I don't think you have one of them.
Not even me has one of them yet.
Only Nikolaus does, who is working on getting
it running.

You do not even need one gta02.
You just need ONE gta04 ;-)

we have just one board yet and the SDRAM is not working
properly. We did suspect a soldering issue with the
fine-pitch OMAP processor. Today we were lucky
to find someone to do X-Ray right on the Electronica
fair ground to demonstrate what they can do.

Here is the machine and the X-Ray result:

http://download.goldelico.com/gta04/images/2009%20Xray/

So it does look ok and we have to find the SDRAM problem
at a different place.

Hello urodelo.

If I recall correctly, Replicant folk are quite familiar w/ FreeRunner
the OpenMoko phones.

They are already using the GSM interface library written by OpenMoko. It
should be fairly easy to port back collaborate.

closed source code and provide a completely free/open environment. They

 What do you think?

Hi Brian.
They already know the FR, as we could guess. Actually they are looking for
somebody willing to collaborate on that project. I'm reading they look for
testers too, but I think any kind of help would be appreciated... Anybody
interested? I don't know them but imho it looks worth to have a kind of
partnership between Replicant and openmoko community...

Hi. Thanks for the answer.

So you both are already working on replicant? That's good. I either don't
like the android license, that's because I've thought that having a free
android, as the replicant is intended for, would be nice. I personally
use qtmoko and shr, but for me more choices we have thebetter is. Of
course it's a challenge even because gta02 is now getting a bit old (no
flame!) compared to other devices, but because of its diffusion, it would
be a good thing for me to have it available for our fr and for next
generation gta. free sw in free runner.

You know GNUtoo, and he knows me.
So you know someone of the project.
 Replicant has moved Android-only right?
I'm not so fan of Android, because of it's license strategy...
Have you had a look? There is already SHR, with nice 3D
 and good usability growing.

ATM we are still experimenting with the PCB.
And soldering wildly around, because the board gives
 us some riddles.
