Thank you Marten.
Yes indeed. Intel's http site does offer downloads of the Dayna drivers
but the files don't arrive in any usable shape. For anyone else needing
this software or for those on the list that have the http links to
DaynaPORT drivers should navigate to the ftp site.
ftp://download.intel.com/support/dayna/. The DaynaPORT 7.7.2 driver
installs and seems to work on an SE/30 running OS7.5. Trying to update
to version 7.5.5 of the OS crashed the mac. Thanks again, Regards, Roman

how to connect Mac SE/30 to a PC (Unix)?

2002-11-25 Thread Nuno Teixeira

Hello to all,

I've purchase a few weeks ago a Mac SE/30 but I don't have very
knowledge about Mac.

I'm having some problems to connect a SE/30 to a FreeBSD gateway (PC
Unix) to access Internet.

First I tried to find a network card like Farallon Ether Mac/PB Adapter
(PN550C-ADB), Farallon EtherMac 30i-10T (PN594-TP) and Asante
(MC+30IET64) but I didn't find anyone that sells it. The only card that
I found for selling was a Asante MC-SEET but it only works with SE.

Can anyone help me in other ways to connect my Mac to the gateway
besides ethernet? Modem to modem (if possible), serial or printer
connection?

I would apreciate links or other documentation.

Thanks in advance,

Nuno Teixeira

LC 575 Logic Board full 040 Processor

2002-11-25 Thread KADaggett
This message written: Monday, 25 November 2002 13:59:28 PST

Thought I would give first chance for this to folks on this list who
might want to upgrade a Color Classic.

Pulled this board from an LC 575 on its way to its final resting place.
It has the LC chip at 33mhz, but I have a 33mhz 040 to go with it.

Make me an offer if you want the pair.

Ken

Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.

Subject: Re: File Transfer

My only access to the Internet is with my PeeCee. I can (and
have) downloaded lots of freebies, which can easily be transferred to the
Classic - provided that they can fit onto an HD floppy.
I would like to be able to transfer larger files, either :-
1. by chopping them up and reassembling them on the Classic..

I use a shareware prog called SplitIt! - drop files onto it and they break
into disk-sized chunks, drop the bits on it and they reassemble.

I've been using SplitIt! too and think highly of it. You can even control
the size of the chuncks.

if it's actually seeing 10MHz as the CPU speed. That clear video that you

Re: how to connect Mac SE/30 to a PC (Unix)?

2002-11-25 Thread Marten van de Kraats
I'm having some problems to connect a SE/30 to a FreeBSD gateway (PC
  Unix) to access Internet.
The only card that
I found for selling was a Asante MC-SEET but it only works with SE.

If I were in your situation I would buy the elusive ethernet card on eBay.
Look for a seller who ships outside of the U.S.
All of the following Asante cards have RJ-45 connectors and will work in
the SE/30, some have the FPU chip, which must be removed.

SE ethernetcards are not compatible with the SE/30. And why would
one put a FPU on a SE/30 ethernetcard? It doesn't make sense because
you will always have to remove it.

Or am I missing something?

And why would one put a FPU on a SE/30 ethernetcard?
Marten

Because the card is made for the IIsi, and will work in the SE/30 if FPU is
removed.
The 30i in Asante's model number means that it will work in either SE/30
or IIsi.

Well, it came to me as a 128 with no motherboard and no floppy drive.

The extra Mac Plus motherboard made it come to life for the trial.

It really was just a fun experiment. That I got it to work at all was
 a delight.

The screen was narrower than normal and I adjusted it to appear
normal. As mentioned,

I couldn't use the floppy drive and the only access was through an
 external hard drive.

It isn't something I'd keep that way. In fact it's already been
dismantled and put away.

But, I wanted to do it, to pioneer the possibilities with Macs from MY
 perspective.

The same goes for the SE and Classic. None of these models can be
 effectively overclocked.

I put a 33Mhz., (15Mhz. effective), oscillator in the Classic and it gave
me the sign it hated it. Thin squiggly video, and no way to see the goings
on. As far as it being OK with a 20 Mhz. one, (10Mhz. effective),
I would probaby have the same results as with the 128 / Plus. But, it's
just a trial. I have a burning
curiosity about what these machines will and won't do. And I love doing
it.
