Is it possible to set a bar at these tournaments? In human McMahon
tournaments, that very successfully allows a top tier of competition
while guaranteeing at least some fun for everybody

What about a Rengo tournament? :) I don't know how feasible that would be,
but it could be fun to have programs cope with someone else on their team.
