I believe many carriers allow a 30-day experience with a new
subsidized device before you are fully committed to the 2-year
contract. With ATT, I only needed to wait 18 months before going from
a Q9h to my 3GS. It would have been 2 years if I had switched
carriers.

BB's do have a touch screen it is called the Storm 2.
There are those sold on touch screens and there are those who are not.
I am not sold on touch screens I want a physical keyboard.

Yes, as I noted in another thread, many won't buy an iPhone due to lack of
keyboard. For me, the eris/hero keyboard is good, I'm not sending out
massive 4 page emails on the thing, just an sms a few times a day.

Yes. But the rest of the hardware is pretty nice, the resolution
especially. I wonder if Apple will announce in january a speed bump to
their iphone line, it's getting dated. The snapdragon is going to start
appearing in more and more phones across the board, offering nice video
playback etc.

I'm waiting out CES to see if anything really cool gets announced. The
Droid is a near miss- I want a better keyboard than than one. More like my
LG ENV with raised buttons not a flat plane of keys. The droid keyboard is
everything I dislike about the touch screen keyboards but mechanical.

Go into a store and use it a little bit, probably the best way to find out.
I think verizon also had a deal, buy one eris get one free...and the eris is
much cheaper.

Mike, thanks for the comments - much appreciated. In fact, because I
did read a number of the many reviews, I wanted to ask and hear from the
folks on this list, including how it feels to use the Droid keyboard,
which many reviewers did not like. There's a lot of value here! -Andy

I have the sprint version of the eris and I find it extremely usable and
well made. Everything I've wanted to do I've been able to, the soft
keyboard is good, but not quite iphone good. The apps are plentiful, I
don't find myself missing anything in that department.

Now looking at a Verizon Wireless promotion - buy a Droid and get a free
Eris (naturally, Ts and Cs apply). The primary requirements are for two
phones for voice, text, email, and web in the MD/DC area - at least one
phone with physical QWERTY keyboard - personal and light business use -
