Compacting folders is pretty much the same thing as deleting the .msf

doing a search on a specific subject didn't cause it to be rebuilt.

When was the last time the folders were compacted? I encountered a
situation where the emails wouldn't load in a folder (such as inbox),
and after compacting the folder, the emails returned. Ended up going
through and compacting all of the folders for prevention. Just a thought...

Very concise. Not necessarily sufficient.
If you have lost the indications of unread messages that shows up in the
left hand pane in parentheses, that probably means the indices (*.msf
folders) are hose
