and hook up the video to my TV with a VGA port, and if I hook up an audio
cable to the output on the side of the computer (3.5mm labeled stereo

It should be fine. The TV will amplify it.

The problem will be does you flat panel have a miniphone jack for sound?
I doubt it.
You will need to also get a miniphone jack to two RCA plug connector
to enable you to plug in the sound.

cable on it (http://tinyurl.com/yfrxj5k) and show whatever from the computer
on my TV since it has a VGA port without buying some folderol
