Microsoft, et al, already enjoy near total market saturation, so why would there be much hoopla amongst the public for yet another place to buy what you can see and buy in just about any computer or department store? Apple, however, is another piece of cake. It is harder to find their products in stores, particularly their computers, thus a reason for the popularity of stores dedicated to products associated with the Apple name. I'd give the MS stores a couple of years or so on life support and then, poof, they'll be gone, victimized by too much competition from so many other stores that carry the same stuff. I think that the public basically yawns when it comes to trying to get excited about Windows stuff if for no other reason than the fact it is so all enveloping to the point of being trite and tiresome. I am getting myself ready to upgrade at least one of my machines. I have one Vista machine and one XP that I want to upgrade and a possibility of two more. I have 4 copies of Windows 7 upgrade (bought at half price this summer) In preparing for the upgrade I have one major disappointment.and it is not with Microsoft it is with HP. I have a number of printers hooked up to our home network and one of those is an HP. I go to their web site to get Windows 7 drivers and they say they will not be ready till January 2010. Major HUH? My Epson's all have Windows 7 ready drivers but not the HP's says that Windows 7 has basic drivers already part of 7 and I would have to hook up with a USB cable to get them installed? What is up with HP? They should have those suckers ready for download on October 22nd not waiting till January 2010. Yes I know the only good reviews are the reviews that carry your party line. Shouldn't matter that he actually used it for months and you've never used it. Much like your comment on android. Heaven forbid you actually use a product before you judge it. By the way my first batch of upgrade Widows 7 came with dual DVD's. I got both a 32 bit and a 64 bit install DVD with my Windows 7. This is the first batch. I have a second batch of upgrade DVD's coming from Amazon next week. All of these were bought while they were half price in July. [CGUYS] Fw: Windows Live One Scan and Cleanup
Hi ... My neighbor just used Windows Live One Scan and Clean on his Dell laptop and it apparently has completely crashed his computer. When it tried to reboot after the scan he could hear the hdd whirring and the screen lit up for a moment with the Dell logo but then went to black and he can't get a picture to come back onto the monitor (excepton trying the reboot again, it will come back just momentarily). Then the mouse arrow appears on the screen (again only momentarily) and then it goes to black, the hdd (or something) continues to whirr and nothing else happend. I looked at the Windows Live site trying to help him find a contact number to call but can't find anything even close to a contact phone or email. The computer (several years old) (Inspiron 8000) originally had Windows ME on it but he upgraded to Windows XP and has the XP CD but that won't bring up a picture on the screen either. Is this something mindless and easy to fix? (I hope!) Or will it require a trip to the shop (assuming he can find a decent one. He's in Takoma Park MD. Any suggestions?) This message neer got posted to the group so I'm forwarding it from my sent box. My friend phoned to say he was able to get the computer to boot from the cd but called back to say it was short-lived. Within the hour, the monitor had gone to black again. Any suggestions? As always, thanks in advance for your help !! Re: [CGUYS] Fw: Windows Live One Scan and Cleanup
Sounds like a hardware failure (likely has nothing to do with whatever was running when it failed). Can he get into the bios and sit there as long as he wants? Can he boot to a live cd and run an OS? Probably not worth repairing since the Win7 notebooks just hit the market at bargain prices. On Wed, Oct 21, 2009 at 1:10 AM, Gail.Miller gail.mil...@comcast.net wrote: Hi ... The manual probably was written befoe Win7 came out (especially since you got you parts before Win7 came out) so knows nothing of it's existence. I suspect it'll work just fine with Win7. I also suspect it'll work just fine with Win 2000, Win 98 Win ME, Win 3.1, and even plain old DOS. * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *
