ffmpegX - http://ffmpegx.com/ It's a GUI wrapper for a collection of Unix tools. Converts lots of AV formats. Betty * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *

I came a bit late to this, but i don't think anyone has just suggested dropping the video clips onto iMovie? If you have a Mac and iMovie, you should be able to drop any clip that Quicktime can play onto iMovie's clip pane. It'll convert the clip to DV, stretching it as need to fit the standard ratio window -- or so it has for the times I've used it. Then you can put the clips together, arrange them, edit them, add chapter markers, and then Share to iDVD to make your DVD that will play in a TV DVD player. I've used this for various filetypes, even YouTube videos I've snagged. (Okay, I admit I've forgotten if I converted the .flv file to something else first before dropping on iMovie. I know I've dropped .wmv and .mov and other files on it.) The quality, of course, leaves a lot to be desired once you've grabbed a web video, converted and stretched it, but it's not unwatchable... usually. :) -- Michael Lewis Off Balance Productions [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.offbalance.com * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *

Re: [CGUYS] .MOV to .mp4
Well actually, DVD's mostly still use .mpg (mpeg2) files. Usually they're arranged as indexed .vob files, but most players will play .mpg (mpeg2) files. But they won't fast forward or rewind through them. If you want to save yourself some trouble, you can buy mpeg4 Divx DVD players (Philips). File conversions can get pretty hairy, so are probably beyond the scope of this list, but you can find everything you want to know here: www.doom9.org/ On Mon, Sep 1, 2008 at 9:31 PM, Rev. DVD's use VOB files. You still have some work to do to author a DVD. Stewart At 08:22 PM 9/1/2008, you wrote: I used iTunes to convert the.mov file to .m4v file. I used iTunes to convert the.mov file to .m4v file. Since it wasn't a DRM copyrighted/protected file, I was then able to change the .m4v to .mp4. It was rather simple. My question is: Do I have to do this in order to make a DVD that will play on my TV's DVD player or could I just stop at .m4v? As I understand it .m4v is how Apple makes sure that the DRM copyright is enforced and only played on "authorized" machines.
