You may not have to open the case - not to ear-ball the front and rear case fans, anyway. Contacted seagate and they were all too ready to exchange it ...I think this is common ...I escalated to a tech and he said to backup my stuff NOW and while waiting for the exchange drive ($20) I should visit a local religious institution to make sure it doesn't fly apart before the other one gets here ...no extension on the warranty but I still have to Oct25 2010 on it which will carry over, so ...barracuda ate my double sawbuck ...not as bad as a failure be4 backup ...and they pay the s/h both ways so... and all the bad jokes when i said i saved the box on my externals so return would be easy. in maryland, the warantee sort of starts over. they cannot keep patching to get you through the two years or whatever.
