Windows Restore only restores the Windows Registry to a previously
created restore point state. It's not a total system backup/ rollback
tool. It won't restore changes to application software or user data for
instance.

installed or an old one is removed, the system can't be rest
Install a new drive.
Put the OS on it.
Plug the old drive in as the slave.
Copy as much as possible from old to new.
I have never been able to get that system restore thing to work. there is
usually damage to the HD somewhere in the boot/important sector/s.

I wish I had a good answer for you, but I don't. I assume you don't
have a disk image you can restore? I hope at least you have good
backups.
Maybe we could fix whatever problem has you trying to restore? We'd
need lots more info like the OS, etc.

I tried to do a system restore to an earlier time and well over a dozen
restore points that should have been available did not work. I kept getting

"Unable to restore to MM/DD/YY" Message.
