I think she wants to grate them for a salad; yes, for clarity, I also use a
potato peeler for peeling them.

It depends on the size of the carrots, of course. I use a hand grater if I
just am grating one or two carrots, otherwise, I drag out my food processor
that does it in 2 seconds.
