Yes that’s the right death. It’s indexed on irishgenealogy under Rosev
(presumably a mistake for Rosey) and that explains why I couldn’t find
it.

2019-06-24 Thread Peggy Gordon via CoTyroneList
I am researching the Duffin family. Joseph Duffin, son of Patrick Duffin,
married Alice Hamilton on Oct 27, 1891 in Stewartstown. Her parents were Robert
Hamilton and Margaret Mallon who were married abt 1853 but I don't have the
marriage record. I wonder if there is a connection between Rose Devlin nee
Mallon and Margaret Mallon.I found a will on Proni for a Patrick Devlin who
died in 1886 who is obviously a different Patrick Devlin.Peggy

Tomas,

The RC church records for Arboe list 4 children to Patrick Devlin & Rose Mallon
(there may have been more but they don’t show up on
Ancestry):

Felix bapt 3.2.1851
Joseph baptised 2.4.1854
John 13.3.1857
Bridget 15.1.1865

I can also find a statutory birth certificate for Bridget which shows that her
father was a farmer in Ardean, which is a townland on the shores of Lough
Neagh. It’s near the Battery Pub which is right on the loughshore.

https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.irishgenealogy.ie%2Fen%2F=02%7C01%7C%7C70105a50f4d2431d373608d6f8754ed3%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435%7C1%7C0%7C636969580048820525=E0ArIBLi0zCV7Hy%2BOj3%2BOsUIo8So0Brk0XzQYVZx5Jk%3D=0

Patrick Devlin died in Ardean on 11.1.1888. His son Felix was the informant.
Rose was still alive at that date. I have not been able to identify her death
with certainty. (There’s a possible death on
21.12.1888 in Cookstown workhouse, for a woman who normally resided in Coagh,
aged 74, but I can’t be sure it’s the correct lady as it’s such a common name
and I would have expected the address to be Ardean rather than Coagh).

This looks to be Felix (born 1851) and family in the 1901 census.
Felix had married Eliza O’Neill on 4.2.1892:

https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.census.nationalarchives.ie%2Fpages%2F1901%2FTyrone%2FMunterevlin%2FArdean%2F1727713%2F=02%7C01%7C%7C70105a50f4d2431d373608d6f8754ed3%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435%7C1%7C0%7C636969580048820525=EagTM59FQbPwDttJqHmPj55BVYoZKxYnLau5Hhf6UvE%3D=0

1911 census:

https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.census.nationalarchives.ie%2Fpages%2F1911%2FTyrone%2FMunterevlin%2FArdean%2F857422%2F=02%7C01%7C%7C70105a50f4d2431d373608d6f8754ed3%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435%7C1%7C0%7C636969580048820525=L%2BCQCB%2BXaI5r4ixOfRu%2BhR%2BkY3nfh2OzTIDVHsZyCWM%3D=0

This will be a difficult family to research as Devlin is an extremely common
surname in the area. In the 1901 census of Ardean (which is just 143 acres in
size) there were 17 households. 8 of them were Devlin families, many of whom
used the same forenames. Many of them will likely be related. It will be hard
work sorting them all out.

I’m pleased that worked Charlotte. Just to clarify things, these are not sites
but files contributed by volunteers and uploaded on the essential
CoTyroneIreland website https://www.cotyroneireland.com/

You say that Richard McFall came from the same area; however the Millikens
(recorded as Milligan) and McFalls occupied adjoining farms as recorded in
Griffiths Valuation:

Griffiths Valuation, Derryloran Parish, Cookstown, Co. Tyrone c1860
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

[cid:image001.jpg@01D52ACE.181226D0]

The primary valuation or Griffiths Valuation – carried out between 1848 and
1864 to determine liability to pay the Poor Rate (for the support of the poor
and destitute within each Poor Law Union) – provides detailed information on
where people lived in the mid-nineteenths century Ireland and the property they
possessed.

Hope this is useful to your research and adds to the knowledge of your
forebears,

Hello Charlotte,

Rebecca’s 1803 baptism is recorded in the registers of Derryloran Parish Church
(St. Luran’s Church of Ireland, Cookstown)
https://www.cotyroneireland.com/churchrecord/saintluran1797-1809.html You may
find other members of your family in other registers of this church on the CTI
website https://www.cotyroneireland.com/churchrecord/saintluran1810-1829.html
https://www.cotyroneireland.com/churchrecord/saintluran1830-1849.html

and others.

Have you referred to the Derryloran Tithe Applotment Book (1826)
https://www.cotyroneireland.com/tithe/derryloran_M_Z.html
Both McFauls and Millikens were residents in the townland of Ballygrugan at
that time.
Trust this is helpful

I am interested to learn more about Richard McFalls and Rebecca Milliken. They
were my great x 3 grandparents.

They were married 13 July 1829 in the parish of Derryloran. I have been able
to find the page where much of the information on Richard and Rebecca’s family
is located. https://cotyroneireland.com/surnames/McFalls-Falls.html

However, I believe that Richard was also baptized in this area and Rebecca may
have been also. I think Richard was born around 1794 and Rebecca around 1803.

Where can I find out more about their birth and baptism and their parents’
names?

Thanks for your help,
Charlotte

Tomas,

The RC church records for Arboe list 4 children to Patrick Devlin &
Rose Mallon (there may have been more but they don’t show up on
Ancestry):

Felix bapt 3.2.1851
Joseph baptised 2.4.1854
John 13.3.1857
Bridget 15.1.1865

I can also find a statutory birth certificate for Bridget which shows
that her father was a farmer in Ardean, which is a townland on the
shores of Lough Neagh. It’s near the Battery Pub which is right on the
loughshore.

https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/

Patrick Devlin died in Ardean on 11.1.1888. His son Felix was the
informant. Rose was still alive at that date. I have not been able to
identify her death with certainty. (There’s a possible death on
21.12.1888 in Cookstown workhouse, for a woman who normally resided in
Coagh, aged 74, but I can’t be sure it’s the correct lady as it’s such
a common name and I would have expected the address to be Ardean
rather than Coagh).

This looks to be Felix (born 1851) and family in the 1901 census.
Felix had married Eliza O’Neill on 4.2.1892:
