[courier-users] sqwebmail 3.3.5 and courier-imap 1.5.0 on RedHat 6.2

2002-06-24 Thread Alexander Bruns

Hi,

I have courier-imap, maildrop and sqwebmail running on our
Q-Mail-Mailserver now since 1 year.

I used tu update the packages with rpm -ta courier-imap-1.5.0.tgz

Now it says pam-devel is required. On my RedHat 6.2 system, there
is no pam-devel-prm-package available. Is it no longer possible
to build this softewarepackages on RedHat 6.2 ?

Subject: [courier-users] Web based configuration utility?

Hello.

I'm thinking about installing the courier mta package on a server which
will host multiple virtual domains. Right now I'm looking for a web
based configuration utility which will allow me to create new domains
and new users for these domains. It should also allow the domain users
to change their passwords and maybe also other goodies (like setting
up dot-courier files and such).

As I currently don't have anything, I don't care if the user data will
be stored in LDAP, MySQL or whatever.

Is there such a thing?

I already found UI for Courier Administration
(http://sf.net/projects/uica) and PHP Mysql Courier Admin
(http://sf.net/projects/pmcadmin). However, both projects don't seem to
be active.

Thanks,

Alexander Skwar

Well, the SPEC can easily be adopted for Mandrake by dropping the

for RedHat and Mandrake. Don't know about SuSE.

Okay, maybe it's a bug in the SPEC of the Mandrake apache RPM. However,
we're not going to be able to change that. It might be possible to get
Mandrake to make upcoming apache RPMs provide that directory. But
there'll still be a large number of users using Mandrake =8.2 who don't
have a apache RPM that provides this.

So the easiest fix is to drop the Requires: from courier.

[courier-users] Bug in documentation

2002-06-24 Thread Christoph Puppe

Salve,

there is a little bug in the documentation, regarding hosting of virtual
domains.

Szenario:

oo all adresses (XXX@hosted) should go to one account
oo put @hosted: hosted_user in the aliases file

The documentation says you should put this domains in locals, because
then the XXX will be delivered as hosted_user-XXX. And you should not
put the domain in hosteddomains, because that will be delivered as
XXXhosted.

That's not working, actually it works fine when done exactly the other
wise around ( put hosted in hosteddomains and courier delivers it as
hosted_user-XXX).

Sorry I don't have the time to rewrite the man and html files. Maybe later.

[courier-users] SSL sending error

2002-06-24 Thread James A. de Haseth

I have been trying to follow the threads in this list about sending
errors, but I have found no solution.

I am using courier-imap 1.4.6.20020613 and qmail as the mta. I have
tested qmail as thoroughly as I can, and it sends and receives mail as
expected. (I'm using Dave Sill's book on qmail and tried all the
tests.) I set up courier-imap with SSL and I log in under imapd and I
cvan read my e-mail just fine, but when I try to send e-mail while
logged on through imap SSL I get the error message:

Error while 'Sending Mail_message_Subject'
RCPT TO response error: Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable:
mail not sent

If I send the same message manually under qmail it goes. If I log on
locally and use pine, the same message goes with no error.

I'm new to courier-imap and ssl, so some things remain a mystery to me.

In authdaemonrc I set:

authmodulelist=authcustom authcram authpam

and in /etc/services I have:

imaps 993/tcp # IMAP over SSL
imaps 993/udp # IMAP over SSL

Any clues to help track down the error (probably my setup), would be
greatly appreciated. Is an upgrade to 1.5.0 warranted?

TIA,

[courier-users] authdaemon

2002-06-24 Thread courier

Hello,

Is the authdaemon know which service ask for user authetication (imapd,
pop3d, webmail) ?

If knows it is possible to define in authmysqlrc different SELECT clause for
each service?

The reason for this question is that I have want to allow to some of my
users only imap, to others only secure imap, to others only secure imap and
secure pop3. I think that this is easy if authdaemon add to SELECT clause
some like 'AND imap=1 AND secureimap=1 AND pop3=1 AND securepop3=1' or
something like this.

Is this is possible?

That's wrong. Else every package would satisfy a dependency on
/usr/bin. And that's not true - and it also shouldn't be true.

If the apache package provides /var/www/html, it should provide the cgi-bin
 directory as well.

Yes, it should. However, it doesn't. And there are a lot of
installations where this won't be. New packages *MIGHT* satisfy this,
but that's not guaranteed. However, it's easy to make courier be
Mandrake compatible.

Re: [courier-users] PAM / searchable mail archive?

2002-06-24 Thread Keith Pettit

Got it working.

The issue was in my /etc/pam_smb.conf I have my domain and server
specified like I was required. And in my smb.conf file I also have the
correct netbios name specified but for some reason it wasn't working
correctly. I ended up adding my machine to the /etc/samba/lmhosts file
and it worked great after that.

Thanks for the help,

Re: [courier-users] Default account and LDAP authentication (SOLVED)

2002-06-24 Thread courier

Hi,

This is done by creating an account named 'alias' for the domain you want

it

for. Note that is must be an actual account, it cannot be an alias.

I use this functionality myself, and I'm using courier with LDAP
authentication for multiple (hosted) domains.

Hmm... It doesn't work for me. Did you create 'alias' account as usual
one? I've created ldap entry [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and tested it:
 .
250 Ok.
RCPT TO: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
250 Ok.
RCPT TO: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
550 User unknown

Weird It should work... It definitely worked for me; I got tons of spam
all of a sudden, addressed to nonsensical email-addresses.

It is documented in the manpage for makehosteddomains, at the very bottom,
so it's a esmtpd feature.

Thank you, it seems to be solved now ( at least, partialy). Since, it
is esmptd feature ( not LDAP!),
I looked more closely into my configs and move 'authshadow' daemon
(this system is Slackware 8.0) _before_
authldap. It is a bit strange, but now it works! I suppose that if I
would delete account [EMAIL PROTECTED] created
in LDAP tree by misunderstanding, esmtpd would work with autahdaemons
with any order...

Check your path to your MYSQL_SOCKET in authmysqlrc.

[courier-users] Courier IMAP + Qmail + Vpopmail + PHP

2002-06-24 Thread Andy Bierlair

Hi,

I have a very well configured qmail running on our webserver. It checks
POP3 requests through vchkpw for our virtual domains, and it has SMTP
after POP enabled. This works just great!
Now we have decided to offer our customers a webmail service with their
own folders. So we need IMAP.
Webmail should go through a PHP written interface, so I compile it with
the --enable-imap option which is the first messy point, because I have
to get the WU-Imap libs. Can't I compile it somehow that it looks for
Courier?
Anyway, I have installed these WU libs and got PHP compiled.
Next I tried a few basic things like imap_open(...blablabla...) and here
is where I get really stuck, because sometimes it refuses the
connection, even though the username and password is right!
I noticed that this happens mostly after I entered a wrong user/pass at
first and then a right one after. It is not ease to explain, but here is
what my logs say:

Jun 24 21:53:25 california imapd: Connection, ip=[:::127.0.0.1]
Jun 24 21:53:30 california imapd: LOGIN FAILED, ip=[:::127.0.0.1]
Jun 24 21:53:40 california last message repeated 2 times
Jun 24 21:53:40 california imapd: LOGOUT, ip=[:::127.0.0.1]
Jun 24 21:53:59 california imapd: Connection, ip=[:::127.0.0.1]
Jun 24 21:53:59 california imapd: LOGIN, [EMAIL PROTECTED],
ip=[:::127.0.0.1]
Jun 24 21:53:59 california imapd: LOGOUT, [EMAIL PROTECTED],
ip=[:::127.0.0.1], headers=0, body=0
Jun 24 21:54:01 california imapd: Connection, ip=[:::127.0.0.1]
Jun 24 21:54:01 california imapd: LOGIN, [EMAIL PROTECTED],
ip=[:::127.0.0.1]
Jun 24 21:54:01 california imapd: LOGOUT, [EMAIL PROTECTED],
ip=[:::127.0.0.1], headers=0, body=0
Jun 24 21:54:01 california imapd: Connection, ip=[:::127.0.0.1]
Jun 24 21:54:06 california imapd: LOGIN FAILED, ip=[:::127.0.0.1]

The first Connection failed is due to a wrong username.
Then I log in with valid settings and do a refresh in the browser, and
the first refresh goes, the second refresh screws it up.
When I restart IMAP, it seems to work as if nothing had ever happened.
So I guess there is something not right in the configuration.

Does anyone know how to set up Courier-IMAP working correctly with PHP
and Vpopmail and SMTP after POP/IMAP?

This drives me nuts, and I'be be very grateful if I could get help on
this.

Thanks a lot,

Andy

There is no free lunch. Different servers are optimized for different
purposes. In due time you'll find IMAP operations where Cyrus will respond
slower than Courier-IMAP. This server is simply not optimized for Eudora's
IMAP profile, specifically the way Eudora searches folders.

[courier-users] Scalability feedback

2002-06-24 Thread Sam Varshavchik

I'd like some feedback from sites that handle a fair amount of webmail
traffic; specifically the CPU load and memory footprint. I am considering
switching to a different internal architectural design. Right now, a new
process is started to handle every HTTP request. After generating the
response, the process terminates.

A new design under consideration involves a much smaller cgi stub process.
A succesful login leaves a permanent process in place; and the small cgi
stub process forwards each HTTP request to the login process to handle.

It's not possible to have a one-size-fits-all estimate of the resulting
impact. This design should work better on platforms with an expensive
exec(), but a cheap fork(), since each HTTP request will result in a much
smaller process to exec(). On the other hand a cheap exec() and an
expensive fork() will make things worse due to an extra fork() in the new
model. Another good metric to have is an estimate on the number of active
login sessions. Under the current model a login session does not require
any resources except when an HTTP request comes in. Under the new model
each login session will have an idle process; until the session logs out or
times out due to inactivity. The issue is whether the lessened CPU load,
from replacing an exec() of a heavyweight process with an exec() of a
lightweight process, and an extra fork(), offsets the increased RAM
requirements from keeping login sessions idle.

I do agree that this might/is a bug in the Mandrake apache RPM. But as
I already said, there's nothing that can be done about it - at least not
as far as the the current and older packages of apache are concerned.

Would you accept a patch to the spec which makes this a conditional

That depends on which Apache RPM package you use, it seems. RH Apache
2.0.x RPMs have:

%define contentdir %{_var}/www2
-e 's;@@ServerRoot@@/htdocs;%{contentdir}/html;' \

manualdir: %{contentdir}/manual
cgidir:%{contentdir}/cgi-bin

%dir %{contentdir}/cgi-bin

but nothing gets installed in cgi-bin when you install Apache.

Apache 1.3.x RPMs exhibit similar behaviour.
