[courier-users] sqwebmail 3.3.5 and courier-imap 1.5.0 on RedHat 6.2
Hi, I have courier-imap, maildrop and sqwebmail running on our Q-Mail-Mailserver now since 1 year. I used tu update the packages with rpm -ta courier-imap-1.5.0.tgz Now it says pam-devel is required. On my RedHat 6.2 system, there is no pam-devel-prm-package available. Is it no longer possible to build this softewarepackages on RedHat 6.2 ? Hello. I'm thinking about installing the courier mta package on a server which will host multiple virtual domains. Right now I'm looking for a web based configuration utility which will allow me to create new domains and new users for these domains. It should also allow the domain users to change their passwords and maybe also other goodies (like setting up dot-courier files and such). As I currently don't have anything, I don't care if the user data will be stored in LDAP, MySQL or whatever. Is there such a thing? I already found UI for Courier Administration (http://sf.net/projects/uica) and PHP Mysql Courier Admin (http://sf.net/projects/pmcadmin). However, both projects don't seem to be active. So sprach Juha Saarinen am 2002-06-24 um 22:01:39 +1200 : I think there's a strong argument for that, so it still looks like a Mandrake bug. :-) Okay, maybe it's a bug in the SPEC of the Mandrake apache RPM. However, we're not going to be able to change that. It might be possible to get Mandrake to make upcoming apache RPMs provide that directory. But there'll still be a large number of users using Mandrake =8.2 who don't have a apache RPM that provides this. So the easiest fix is to drop the Requires: from courier. Salve, there is a little bug in the documentation, regarding hosting of virtual domains. Szenario: oo all adresses (XXX@hosted) should go to one account oo put @hosted: hosted_user in the aliases file The documentation says you should put this domains in locals, because then the XXX will be delivered as hosted_user-XXX. And you should not put the domain in hosteddomains, because that will be delivered as XXXhosted. Hi, I have a very well configured qmail running on our webserver. It checks POP3 requests through vchkpw for our virtual domains, and it has SMTP after POP enabled. This works just great! Now we have decided to offer our customers a webmail service with their own folders. So we need IMAP. Webmail should go through a PHP written interface, so I compile it with the --enable-imap option which is the first messy point, because I have to get the WU-Imap libs. Can't I compile it somehow that it looks for Courier? Anyway, I have installed these WU libs and got PHP compiled. Next I tried a few basic things like imap_open(...blablabla...) and here is where I get really stuck, because sometimes it refuses the connection, even though the username and password is right! I noticed that this happens mostly after I entered a wrong user/pass at first and then a right one after. It is not ease to explain, but here is what my logs say: Jun 24 21:53:25 california imapd: Connection, ip=[:::127.0.0.1] Jun 24 21:53:30 california imapd: LOGIN FAILED, ip=[:::127.0.0.1] Jun 24 21:53:40 california last message repeated 2 times Jun 24 21:53:40 california imapd: LOGOUT, ip=[:::127.0.0.1] Jun 24 21:53:59 california imapd: Connection, ip=[:::127.0.0.1] Jun 24 21:53:59 california imapd: LOGIN, [EMAIL PROTECTED], ip=[:::127.0.0.1] Jun 24 21:53:59 california imapd: LOGOUT, [EMAIL PROTECTED], ip=[:::127.0.0.1], headers=0, body=0 Jun 24 21:54:01 california imapd: Connection, ip=[:::127.0.0.1] Jun 24 21:54:01 california imapd: LOGIN, [EMAIL PROTECTED], ip=[:::127.0.0.1] Jun 24 21:54:01 california imapd: LOGOUT, [EMAIL PROTECTED], ip=[:::127.0.0.1], headers=0, body=0 Jun 24 21:54:01 california imapd: Connection, ip=[:::127.0.0.1] Jun 24 21:54:06 california imapd: LOGIN FAILED, ip=[:::127.0.0.1] The first Connection failed is due to a wrong username. Then I log in with valid settings and do a refresh in the browser, and the first refresh goes, the second refresh screws it up. When I restart IMAP, it seems to work as if nothing had ever happened. So I guess there is something not right in the configuration. Does anyone know how to set up Courier-IMAP working correctly with PHP and Vpopmail and SMTP after POP/IMAP? This drives me nuts, and I'be be very grateful if I could get help on this. [courier-users] Scalability feedback
I'd like some feedback from sites that handle a fair amount of webmail traffic; specifically the CPU load and memory footprint. I am considering switching to a different internal architectural design. Right now, a new process is started to handle every HTTP request. After generating the response, the process terminates. A new design under consideration involves a much smaller cgi stub process. A succesful login leaves a permanent process in place; and the small cgi stub process forwards each HTTP request to the login process to handle. It's not possible to have a one-size-fits-all estimate of the resulting impact. This design should work better on platforms with an expensive exec(), but a cheap fork(), since each HTTP request will result in a much smaller process to exec(). On the other hand a cheap exec() and an expensive fork() will make things worse due to an extra fork() in the new model. Another good metric to have is an estimate on the number of active login sessions. Under the current model a login session does not require any resources except when an HTTP request comes in. Under the new model each login session will have an idle process; until the session logs out or times out due to inactivity. The issue is whether the lessened CPU load, from replacing an exec() of a heavyweight process with an exec() of a lightweight process, and an extra fork(), offsets the increased RAM requirements from keeping login sessions idle. --- Sponsored by: ThinkGeek at http://www.ThinkGeek.com/ ___ courier-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/courier-users

[courier-users] MySQL authorization
Greetings. My courier is allowing system authentication via PAM with no problem, and when I attempt to use an account listed in the mysql table, I can see in the mysql logfile that the query was executed, and when I copy and paste that same query, I get good results, but I am not able to authenticate any users in the mysql database. In case this was due to a lack of maildirs, I created the users' home directories and maildirs using the maildirmake command and setting the owner and group to match those in the database (65534). I've tried with just a clear password set, and I've tried with both clear and crypt set (created using the userdbpw command. Anyway, after all these efforts, I only get responses .
