coworking in philadelphia
On Mon, Mar 28, 2011 at 9:57 PM, Alex Hi
I've spent a good amount of the last year reading more articles and books on
psychology, sociology, and cognitive science for ideas and lessons to apply
to coworking...chiefly for the purpose of finding terms like this that could
lead to more study of the context. It's so often that I observe a pat
Hi all,
I spent Earth Hour chatting with an old buddy about his passion,
psychology. When I told him what we're trying to achieve with
coworking, he suggested I look up "zone of proximal development." Any
of you have enough psych background to assess whether there is some
value in reviewing the
Joanna, I'm not sure how helpful I can be, but I'll give it a shot.
If a coworking space is what you're building, then your main objective is to
cultivate a healthy community of people who share a common set of values and
needs. SF has a bunch of spaces, so what will make yours unique? The answer
Joanna, I am NOT a veteran of coworking. Heck, I want to open one someday.
(Someday, over the rainbow.) :)
But I do have a couple of suggestions, if you don't mind?
You're in San Fran, right? Home of Venture Capitalists? I would send out a

Good Afternoon/Good Morning to All,
Our coworking space in SF SoMa region has been open for about 2 full months
and we've experienced less luck in gaining clientele. At present we have a
few virtual office clients and have been showing our space at least twice a
week with a few phone calls of inte
You know, our summers are actually pretty decent. One summer was flat but the
other 2 climbed up from June - August. If there's a slow month for us, it's
typically Feb or March, depending upon how January is, and Sept, depending upon
the just finished summer. Then again, we do use multi-month
I’d have to agree with Alex. We’re already talking about how we can set up
some “outside” space for coworkers. We’ve been brainstorming some café
styled tables for outside our front entrance to allow folks to “relocate”
outside for part of the day when the sun is out and the weather is
beautiful.
Wow, nice suggestion there Alex. I've never thought about Coworking
management that way. In fact it goes hand-in-hand with the idea that what
matters isn't the "product" 'Coworking Space' but its core concept. That
concept can be adapted to anywhere anytime as long as there are supporters

If people don't want to be in the office during the summer, embrace it.
Organize BBQs, "Cowork-outs" (coworking outdoors, from parks, etc), any
opportunity to keep coworkers present with each other, not just in your
space.
This is an important key to coworking's longevity: if you take away the

We've seen a consistent summer slump for all 3 summers we've been around.
It changes if we have more sun but basically the first 2 months with good
sun folks don't come into the office less. Sometimes that's June/July,
sometimes it's July/August. If we get a lot of sun they start to get bored

How to moderize a pretzel shape into a logo? Arms crossed clutching a

Our membership levels out during the summer months. Members don't un-
join but we see far fewer people trying it out or buying memberships.
Attendance also drops off as people scatter to the mountains and go
camping, climbing, hiking etc. Summer can be a great time for the
space owner to work on cl
My new facility -- The Work Place -- is also opening June 1st, although
we've already started holding some events and networking meetings. Looks
like June is going to be a good month all around. Good luck to us all!

This is going to be the first summer for Mutinerie Coworking in Paris
and we are wondering how to adapt our space. Although our space is
currently unavailable to us :( , we hope that we will have a place
soon (the former one or another), and we are wondering about summer
specificities. How do you s
