Israeli military planners have been discussing and drafting strategies in response for a regional war that could take place in 2003. They said such a war is likely to begin with a Hizbullah rocket barrage from southern Lebanon in an attack supported by Syria. Such a war, military officials said, would be fought differently from the more than two-year-old campaign against Palestinian insurgents in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. They said Israeli aircraft, armor and troops would move rapidly to establish the battlefield outside of the Jewish state and capture territory required to achieve victory. In the next war, we will be required to be decisive in a way that will include the capture of territory, Maj. Gen. Yiftah Ron-Tal, head of the Ground Forces Command, said. So, we must preserve our offensive capability in the Israeli Defense Forces. As court records and other documents have become available, a troubling pattern of government willful inaction, suppression of relevant facts, and misleading statements to the media has emerged. The handling of circumstances around the Bushmaster rifle, alleged to be the sniper weapon, by the ATF and FBI are incomprehensible and inexcusable. Initially there was confusion over a similar Bushmaster rifle Muhammad had purchased from Welchers Gun Shop in Tacoma, Washington in December of 1999. The rifle was sold back to the gun shop by Muhammad on May 23, 2000; two months after his ex-wife had obtained a restraining order against him. It was his apparent possession of the weapon after the date of the restraining order that was the basis of the arrest warrant issued in Seattle less than 24 hours before his arrest. There are contradictory explanations of the route of the weapon now alleged to be the sniper rifle. The manufacturer, Bushmaster, says it shipped the rifle to an unnamed distributor in June of 2002. A statement from Bullseye Shooter Supply, the largest gun dealer in Tacoma, said the weapon was received on July 2, but directly from the manufacturer. There is also a discrepancy in the description of the rifle between that of the gun store and the one said to have been found in the car when Muhammad and Malvo were arrested. At the conclusion of an ATF investigation as to why the store had no record of what happened to the weapon after it was received, the store filed a theft report with Tacoma police. Initially the storeowner Brian Borgelt (who incidentally is a former sniper instructor) had said theres a pretty good likelihood Muhammad bought the rifle from his store. In the report the rifle was described as having been fitted with a red visible laser sight. No such accessory was reported on the inventory of items recovered from the Chevrolet Caprice. But the surprising thing is that Borgelt and the store are still in business. A couple of years ago, in an ATF audit, Borgelt reportedly was unable to account for 150 guns. Initial reports from the ATF said that about 340 guns were missing at the start of the current audit. ATF spokeswoman Martha Tebbenkamp said, that number is not correct. However she refused to say what the correct number is or whether it is higher or lower than the 340. She also refused to say what, if any, sanctions might be imposed. However one of the store employees said they received only a warning, nothing else. The ATF has recently earned a reputation for coming down like a ton of bricks on minor violations of only one or two missing records. Borgelts treatment by the ATF tempts one to speculate he may be supplying government operatives with weapons for whatever purpose or fronting for the unnamed distributor. But the distributor is not the only one that has remained nameless. According to the New York Post, on the Monday before Muhammad and Malvo were arrested, police got a tip from an unidentified Tacoma man. He said Muhammad and/or Malvo had told him about the attempted robbery and murder in Montgomery, Alabama giving details only the shooters would know. The Post article said the police were investigating that lead when the highly publicized call attributed to the sniper told the authorities to take a look at the incident in Montgomery (later determined to be the city in Alabama and not the county). The task force has never acknowledged this bombshell. A second person relevant to the investigation is anonymous to the public. He told police Muhammad and Malvo lived with him for a couple of months in Tacoma during which time they had access to his weapons collection. One of the pistols in the collection was used in the murder of the daughter of a woman who had worked for Muhammad at his auto repair shop in Tacoma. Another pistol was used to shoot a couple of bullets into the wall of a local synagogue. The Seattle Times believes it knows who the man is and has requested an interview, which was declined. It is not known if this man and the one who phoned in the tip are one and the same. If Tacoma (Pierce County) authorities decide to prosecute the mysterious tipster would have to testify in public. But thats not likely as the chief criminal prosecutor for the county is saying the cost would probably prohibit it. Meanwhile, a number of potential witnesses to Muhammads involvement in a document forgery ring and alien smuggling operation are being quietly rounded up by U.S. authorities, not for prosecution but deportation. One such person who entered the country with false documents supplied by Muhammad is Antiguan Norman Manroe. Manroe was arrested on a drug charge in Connecticut and was set to be released on $50,000 bail when federal authorities intervened and took him into custody for deportation.

All suffered. While it is true that some Poles collaborated, not all Polish collaborators were goyish. There were Jewish collaborators, too. Some even put on uniforms and took up arms against their fellow Jews. Judenrat: look it up. Other Jews fought back ferociously. Yet others simply ran or hid. Same goes for their goyish countrymen. Poles, like any nationality, are an extremely mixed bag. To lump all Poles, all goys, all Jews or all anybody, together is racist. It's also at odds with the facts on the ground. [CTRL] South Koreans launch cyber attack on US over schoolgirls' deaths

Meanwhile, four people have been arrested breaking into a US army base and riot police have stopped 300 protesters from marching on the American embassy in Seoul. South Korean hackers and Internet users launched the bombs at the server at 0300 GMT. However, an activist says the cyber attack is largely ineffective due to an advanced filtering system at the White House. The activist says a second attack will be launched. It is not known how many people are involved in the attack. Some 25 million people, more than half of the South Korean population, have access to the Internet and regularly use email. The attack was led by a coalition of 130 civic groups, which have organized protests since two 14-year-old girls were crushed to death by a 50-tonne military vehicle on their way to a birthday party in June. Anti-US sentiment escalated in South Korea, one of Washington's close allies, after a US military court cleared the soldiers of negligent homicide two weeks ago. As I most definitely do not know when Christ will return but the Bible does say things will get pretty nasty after one generation from the re-establishment of the State of Israel which took place in 1948, so nasty things are thus on the horizon. OK, so we dont know when such will happen, but we could soon see military happenings that could mean a war, as was the case with Hitler who told the world what he intended to do by his provocative use of the annual Nuremberg Rallies. Hitler was not into Peace but War, and he was very successful as a killing machine, with some 50 million people dead in World War Two. So now its guesstimation time wise, when something may happen, that is will it happen on February 1st 2003? Will it be a day or a Chalice of Trembling? Now the Metropolitan Museum has displayed the splendid silver Antioch Chalice, part of the so-called Antioch Treasure, a group of liturgical objects found outside the city of Antioch in 1910. The interior of the Antioch Chalice was thought to be the cup Jesus drank from at the Last Supper. It was displayed at the Chicago World's Fair in 1933, where it was billed as the Holy Grail. Many people have heard of the Holy Grail legend. The story is that anyone who finds the cup that Jesus used during the Last Supper, (24 hours before the Passover meal), and whosoever drinks from that cup, receives eternal life. Another related heresy is the legend that Mary Magdalene was made pregnant by Jesus and fled the Holy Land to live in what is now southern France. And King Merovee claimed descent from Jesus and Mary Magdalene and his descendants are known as Merovingians. The Merovingians were usurped by another line of kings by the murder of King Dagobert. Authors Baigent, Leigh and Lincoln book, Holy Blood, Holy Grail and it is an interesting observation about the term Holy Grail, saying that In Latin royal blood is sang real. This phrase, if slurred, becomes san graal or Holy Grail. They feel that the search for the Holy Grail is an error and that the search should be for the royal bloodline. So the Holy Grail, the so called Chalice of the Last Supper was discovered at the in Antioch, a city so important to the early Christians that it was recognized with Rome and Alexandria, as one of the great cities of the Church. The Chalice of Antioch, the double cup was, or it is, on display in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City and said to have been made in the first half of the 6th century; and so early Byzantine. It is silver and 7.5 x 5.875 inches in (19 x 15 cm), and the inner cup has a volume of some 5 pints at 173.4 cubic inches. This rather beautiful silver drinking cup, carved from a single piece of silver and enclosed by a unique outer chalice exquisitely carved with symbolic grape vines, among which are twelve seated figures thought by many to represent Christ and eleven of His apostles. So the inner cup holds five pints of liquid, and is evidently an ancient relic of great sanctity, and although not the Chalice at the Last Supper, it could have the measurements for such a Chalice. In that 10 cups, each about half a pint, so a Chalice that has a volume for 173.4 cubic inches, whereas the standard Jewish Omer was 208.080 cubic inches and contained 12 cups, not 10 cups. And the mistake was that the plain silver interior bowl was identified as the Holy Grail, the cup used by Christ at the Last Supper. But is the volume of the Chalice making a statement? And saying we know there were 13 men gathered at the Last Supper, but a Chalice containing 10 cups was enough. Thus an Omer Chalice for 12 persons was seemingly not used if we run with the implications of this would to be Holy Grail legend. OK. So to a most significant year, that is 1441BC when some 2,800,000 Israelites left Egypt, in the Ancient Egyptian year 2,800. And so using the date of 6pm April 6th 1441BC and 1,470 years before the Last Supper on April 6th AD30, and 21 hours before the death of Christ and 24 hours before the start of the Passover meal, that is the 1,470th Passover meal since the very first Passover meal in 1441BC. OK, OK, and now to four sets of years. Counting from 6pm April 6th 1441BC to 5am August 3rd AD70 when the Temple of Yahweh is burning, and by now some 600,000 Jews have died defending their Holy City from the Roman army, is 1,877.7804 years, the death of Jerusalem and Israel. Headlines are being made by Newsweek, which ran a story by Michael Isikoff and Evan Thomas about how some Saudi princess sent money to someone who knew somebody who knew somebody else who funneled the funds to the 9/11 hijackers: if you go here you can see, in the form of a graph, how far removed the alleged connection really is. But the tenuous nature of the alleged Saudi government link to 9/11 doesn't matter to Joe Lieberman and John McCain, who are both on this non-story like dogs on a bone. Newsweek hypes this tale as getting inside the probe the Bush administration doesn't want you to know about! Thanksgiving hasn't even gotten here and already we're in presidential campaign mode. Willya give me a friggin' break?! There is absolutely nothing, zero, zilch, nada to this phony story; it's politics, pure and simple. In August I wrote about the infamous briefing given in the Pentagon by one Laurent Murawiec, the ex-LaRouchie who railed that we ought to threaten to bomb Riyadh and take over the Kingdom. This column included a prediction that the Democrats (led by Lieberman) would try to make the alleged Saudi government connection to 9/11 a political issue: The not-so-hidden subtext of all this is that the Democrats can always bring up the Bush family's links to Saudi oil interests. The killer is that the Democrats don't have to say a word.. Why bother, when the tag-team of Isikoff and Thomas, not to mention platoons of neoconservatives, will do the job for you? Okay, so it's a little off-putting to quote yourself - and so often! - but bear with me for a moment: What we're seeing, here, is a left-right squeeze play, with the Bushies in the middle. It is, in reality, a form of political blackmail, a warning shot fired over the bow - by the ostensibly Republican neocons, and not the Democrats. Okay, so I was wrong about the details: it's the neocons and the Democrats who are taking out after the Newsweek story. Check out the huzzahs over at Neocon Central for Isikoff's latest scoop: the Amen Corner is fairly quivering with gloating and exultant I-told-you-so's. As the administration once again declared that the Saudis are good partners in the war of terrorism, Lieberman and McCain didn't wait for any investigation to make their opinions known, as Associated Press reports: Sens. Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.), who together set up an independent commission that will investigate the terror attacks, offered piercing criticism. Saudi leaders 'have to decide which side they're on,' Lieberman said on CBS' 'Face the Nation.' 'For too many generations, they have pacified and accommodated themselves to the most extreme, fanatical, violent elements of Islam, and those elements have now turned on us and the rest of the world.' Added McCain: 'The Saudi royal family has been engaged in a Faustian bargain for years to keep themselves in power.' Lieberman and McCain, both with unabashedly presidential ambitions, are positioning themselves to attack the Bushies as soft on terrorism, i.e. soft on the Saudis and all those other Ay-rabs, who, we all know, are all alike. So why are the President's most fervent supporters over at National Review also piling on? The view that the President has put off the invasion of Iraq, perhaps indefinitely, now seems uncontroversial, even among the most stubbornly apocalyptic. By going the UN route, Bush has committed the United States to wait until the process is clearly finished. Hans Blix, and not the President of the United States, will effectively decide Iraq's fate. This not only postpones the hawks' war plans, it also opens up the possibility that the war may not come off at all. Although we are told, on a daily basis, that Saddam the Monstrous will never comply voluntarily with the disarmament process, he may be more pragmatic than mad. And then what? Friday is the anniversary of the United Nations vote in 1947 that enabled the creation of the Israeli state. Iranian President Muhammad Khatami joined the estimated 10,000 people who converged on Teheran's Enqelab Square in the annual protest for Jerusalem Day. Accompanied by a squad of bodyguards, Khatami walked with the crowd to the nearby Teheran University where he took part in Friday prayers. Protests also were held Friday in Cairo, Damascus, and Nabatiyeh in southern Lebanon to mark Al-Quds Day - Al-Quds, meaning the holy, is the Arabic name for Jerusalem. Held on the last Friday of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, the protest day was declared by the late Iranian leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini to celebrate Jerusalem as an Islamic city. In Teheran, former Iranian president Hashemi Rafsanjani delivered the Friday prayers sermon, saying the West remained indifferent to the suffering of Palestinians in the ongoing fighting with Israel, despite pictures and [TV] films showing Israeli brutality. In a warning to Israel, he said: Don't think the war will be over if you expel Palestinians from their homes in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. We saw an example of that in Kenya on Thursday, Rafsanjani said, referring to the suicide bomb attack outside Mombasa that killed 12 people at an Israeli-owned hotel. Jewish leaders from around the country had booked themselves into a posh hotel near Philadelphia's historic district for the week before Hanukkah, expecting to hear results of a $6 million, multiyear study of U.S. Jews. The findings could be critical, shaping how tens of millions of dollars will be spent to keep Judaism alive in the United States at a time when many Jews are marrying outside the faith. Then, just before its release, the report was withheld. The survey's technical advisers now are in a bitter public fight with the nonprofit agency directing the project, and critics are wondering if the group is trying to bury bad news. The agency, United Jewish Communities, insists its National Jewish Population Survey is on track and will be made public though it won't say when. There's no smoking gun here, said Stephen Hoffman, the agency president. Based upon what I've been told, the study is fundamentally sound. But some say the delay has undermined the credibility of the report even before it's out. They've inflicted a major blow to themselves, said Egon Mayer, academic director of the North American Jewish Data Bank and a technical adviser for the study. It boggles my mind. The survey tracks key trends including intermarriage, links to Israel and observances of religious rituals. The report is perhaps best known for its 1990 finding that 52 percent of Jews marry non-Jews. The 2000 study originally was supposed to be released more than a year ago, but researchers said it was hard to find people willing to participate. The date was pushed back and speculation grew that the survey was in trouble. Some preliminary results were released last month, including a finding that the U.S. Jewish population had dropped over the last decade, from 5.5 million to 5.2 million. Then, a week before the United Jewish Communities General Assembly and announcement of the remaining results, an angry Mr. Hoffman said he had learned that critical data had been lost and he was postponing the release until he could assess the damage. He said the information apparently had gone missing two years ago in the offices of Roper ASW, the firm that conducted the field work, but Mr. Hoffman had only just been told. Vivian Klaff, one of the top technical advisers, accused Mr. Hoffman of overreacting and insisted the data was not critical. Mr. Klaff said the missing information was coded material that had been collected to see if someone qualified to participate in the survey. Just a portion of that data was gone and adjustments could be made to compensate for the loss, he said. The respondents' answers to questions remain intact. Mr. Klaff said he sent Mr. Hoffman a letter saying please don't do this, and asking him to release the report on schedule. But Mr. Hoffman said he had lost confidence in the leadership of the technical team. He has appointed a task force to investigate. Roper ASW won't discuss the mishap, but the battle between Mr. Hoffman and his advisers and the last-minute delay raised suspicions at the assembly last week that the missing data were the least of the study's problems. By Murray Waas January 30, 1991 FIVE DAYS before the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, President Bush was briefed by William H. Webster, the director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Webster warned that Saddam Hussein was likely to invade Kuwait, predicting that Iraq would probably seize only the Rumaila oil fields and the islands of Bubiyan and Warba, not the whole country (although, he hedged, that was a possibility). Despite this strong personal warning from Webster, high-level spokespersons for the Bush administration continued to state publicly that the U.S. would remain neutral in any Iraq- Kuwait conflict. As the possibility of an invasion became clear to mid-level U.S. intelligence and diplomatic officials, they recommended that the administration send a strong message to Saddam that there would be U.S. retribution for any invasion. But those warnings were ignored by Secretary of State James Baker and the president. Since the invasion, highly classified U.S. intelligence assessments have determined that Saddam took U.S. statements of neutrality in the Iraq-Kuwait conflict as a green light for an invasion. One senior Iraqi military official, who has proved to be a valuable source of information for the CIA in the past, has told the agency that Saddam seemed to be sincerely surprised by the bellicose reaction of the Bush administration following the Aug. 2 invasion. In an interview with this reporter, a senior administration insider bristled at the suggestion made by some intelligence analysts that the Bush administration would have acquiesced to an Iraqi annexation of the oil field and the two islands. Our position then was what it is now: Such a seizure is a violation of international law and unacceptable to this administration.'' Taking the official at his word, the only possible explanation of the Bush administration's miscalculations in the days before the invasion is sheer incompetence on the part of the president and his men. It is impossible to say for sure whether Iraq would have invaded Kuwait if the administration's rhetoric had been remotely the same before Aug. 2 as it has been since. Now that we are at war, it can be said that the Bush administration's actions in those days almost certainly constitute the worst diplomatic failure by any modern president. WHY DIDN'T President Bush and his administration send a strong message to Saddam prior to the invasion in an effort to prevent war? Iraqi intentions were hardly a secret. As early as Feb. 24, 1990, during a meeting of the Arab Cooperation Council in Amman, Jordan, Saddam took Jordan's King Hussein and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak aside and threatened reprisals if Kuwait and Saudi Arabia did not forgive Iraq's $30 billion in war debt and provide Iraq with an additional $30 billion in new grants. Saddam's warning was relayed almost immediately to U.S. intelligence officials, sources say. As Saddam stepped up the shakedown of his neighbors, the Bush administration was winking at him. On April 12, 1990, the Iraqi leader met with a delegation of U.S. senators headed by Minority Leader Robert Dole. Saddam harangued his guests about a Voice of America (VOA) broadcast critical of his regime, as well as efforts in Congress to impose economic sanctions on Iraq over human rights abuses. Dole, saying he was speaking on behalf of the president, reassured Saddam that neither of those actions properly reflected the policy of the Bush administration, according to a transcript of the meeting made public by the Iraqi government. (Dole and the other U.S. participants have not denied the accuracy of the transcript.) A low- level VOA bureaucrat was responsible for the broadcast, Dole explained. Dole also reassured Saddam that the Bush administration was opposed to economic sanctions. When the Iraqi strongman continued to complain about an alleged ``large-scale campaign'' against Iraq by the United States and Europe, Dole shot back that its impetus was not from President Bush.'' Dole met with President Bush when he returned to Washington in late April and counseled forbearance toward Saddam. It was a message George Bush was ready to hear. When Iraq's war with Iran ended in August 1988, many in the Reagan administration argued unsuccessfully that the tilt toward Iraq should end. But Bush opposed this policy, high-level administration officials say. As president, Bush emphasized the long-term, positive role Iraq might someday play in the Middle East. Within days of the April meeting with Dole, according to intelligence officials, Saddam ordered his top military commanders to secretly prepare a contingency plan for invading Kuwait. What if the President was caught getting it on with a girl scout in the Oval Office and was about to be exposed so he cooks up a phony war to divert the media away from the real story. Thats the plot line in the 1997 movie Wag the Dog, a satire on media manipulation. But based on the way the media has covered the President and Iraq as of late the story doesnt seem that far-fetched. In reality it appears that our trusted unbiased news organizations are in on the scheme. Since September 11, the media has tiptoed around the President and has refused to second-guess Bush on the economy, his own business acumen or the war on terror because that would be unpatriotic. Sure, there have been a few stories written about those issues. A couple of reporters have challenged Bush, only to be publicly discredited by the Presidents cronies, and thats enough to put the fear of God into the rest of the journalism community. Unfortunately, there are no Bob Woodwards or Carl Bernsteins in modern day journalism because most reporters dont have the balls to ask tough questions. Like the old saying goes, if it aint broke dont fix it. So, in a time when the public is bombarded with information, be it through the Internet and traditional outlets such as newspapers, magazines and television, we're stuck with propaganda from so-called credible news organizations like The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN and Fox. How can any person with a brain trust that the coverage from Fox is fair and balanced when Roger Ailes, Fox News Channels chairman, is giving President Bush political advice? CNN and The NY Times downplay the anti-war movement and our last bastion of hope, Bob Woodward, the man who brought down former President Richard Nixon, just published a book about Bush that says absolutely nothing important. (Woodward did, however, disclose the Ailes/Bush correspondence.) When op-ed columnists and bloggers are spilling more ink on the underhanded tactics of the Bush administration than the reporters on the Hill assigned to the beat, you know that the state of journalism is in trouble. What we know about Bush since he was sworn into office is that he operates under a veil of secrecy. Journalists don't even attempt to dig for answers to lingering questions about the President's relationship with big business, particularly Enron, his alleged insider trading into Harken Energy and most importantly what he knew about the September 11 terrorist attacks and when he knew it. Rest assured, the American people won't find out about the latter now that Henry Kissinger is heading the inquiry. That's like asking Ken Lay to head a task force investigating the California energy crisis. And so it seems likely that in a few weeks, the sequel to Wag the Dog, Wag the Bush: War with Iraq, produced by Roger Ailes, will air on your local Fox News Channel. The English title of Thierry Meyssans book is 9-11, The Big Lie, which also suggests that the Pentagon was hit by an American missile, and not American Airlines Flight 77. USA Books, a subsidiary of the books French publisher, says he could launch the tour as early as this month. The dates have not been finalized yet, according to Asad Lalljee, of USA Books, but the publicity blitz is likely to include interviews with several major television news shows that have expressed interest. The tour also may include speaking engagements, Lalljee said. The French press ridiculed the book, but it became a best seller in France for three months. The English version has not seen the same success on the best seller lists, but Lalljee said 5,000 copies have sold without any marketing in the past six weeks since it was made available. We do anticipate great demand, Lalljee said. In the book, Meyssan suggests that the attacks were schemed in order to promote a U.S. military agenda that included waging war in Afghanistan. When asked what did happen to Flight 77 and the 59 passengers and crew aboard, he says its one of the questions I dont have a response for. But he says that the shape of the gash in the Pentagon, where 125 people were killed, is not consistent with an airliner. In a book refuting Meyssans theories, authors Guillaume Dasquie and Jean Guisnel said that some French adore these cranks telling them that they are victims of plots, that the truth is being hidden from them, that one must not accept the official version. The U.S. Defense Department has called the allegations in the book more than insulting. Lt. Col. Ken McClellan, a Defense Department spokesman, said Monday he was appalled that Meyssan is planning a U.S. visit. Certainly theres a market for any sort of trivialization of history, McClellan said. That doesnt make it less of a tragedy. Meyssan, an activist with his own left-wing association called the Voltaire Network, says he did not actually travel to the United States to investigate his theories, but had researchers working for him. He said much of his book is based on public documents, newspaper articles and the Internet. Surveillance means to view from above. Sousveillance means to view from below. On the day before Christmas, at noon, local time, all over the world, Deibert wants citizens to shoot back at surveillance cameras -- not with guns, but with cameras of their own. Participants are to head out, in disguise, to their favorite malls and public spaces, and photograph all the security cameras they find. Deibert warns that photographing security cameras will quickly cause large men wearing navy blue blazers and two-way radios to place their hands over your camera lens. Photographers may even be escorted off the premises. Which is exactly the point. Deibert hopes World Sousveillance Day will raise awareness about the increasing pervasiveness of all forms of surveillance in today's hypermedia society. Serving as proof of this critical omission, there is no record of any âMaydayâ or âPanâ call on the Kenyan air traffic control tapes at any time on 28 November 2002. So now we know the New York media was deliberately telling us about a mid-air incident which never occurred.            Simultaneously at the Paradise Hotel, hordes of Israeli tourists were filmed sitting on top of their heavy suitcases more than 200 meters away from the building. Nearly every reader is conversant with hotel evacuation drills. You are told repeatedly that âhuman life is important, possessions are notâ. This priority never changes, with standard emergency instructions worldwide urging patrons to âStay calm, check the room to ensure no-one is left, leave your belongings where they are, and walk briskly to your assembly point â do not run.â Nowhere in the rules is there any instruction to risk the lives of your children and yourself, by slowly and laboriously dragging a fifty-pound suitcase more than two hundred meters towards the beach.            The tourists sitting calmly on their suitcases at the beach, is explained by the fact that the Paradise Hotel is a âturnkeyâ operation, one-hundred-percent owned by the Israelis and thus under their complete control. You cannot walk in off the street and book a room, because the entire hotel is reserved strictly for Israeli tourists, including a sizeable number of Mossad operatives on âRest and Recuperationâ. This was a controlled operation from the start, with nearly all of the Israeli guests cleared away from the buildings before the charges were detonated. Next, Mossad agents led the compliant Kenyan media to a spot just outside the Mombasa Airport perimeter fence, and showed journalists the âdiscarded launch tubesâ of two shoulder-launched surface-to-air heat seeking missiles, allegedly fired at the Arkia Boeing 757 as it passed overhead at 500 feet. They were real launch tubes complete with pistol grips designed to fire the SA-7b âStrelaâ missile, but minus the heavy battery packs which the âArab terroristsâ inexplicably decided to run away with. Believe me, there is no way you can fire the Strela without its heavy battery pack. The launch tubes had also been resprayed brilliant sky-blue, a color which provides excellent contrast for media location and recording on Betamax video, but is absurd for operational use. The only colors the Strela is issued in from the factory, are camouflage khaki or olive drab.             The SA-7b Strela is an infra red heat seeker that locks onto hot engine exhaust gases, and will rush off at Mach 1.75 to kill any aircraft [without active magnesium flare protection] that flies within its slant range of 3 miles. Immediately after launch the equipment operator becomes irrelevant, with the missile doing the rest all by itself. Sure it sometimes has a bit of a problem with helicopters which deflect their hot engine gases up through the rotor blades, but the huge gaping red-hot engine orifices of a Boeing 757 at point blank range, are the Strelaâs ultimate wet dream.            If one of these rather phallic missiles had actually been fired at the Arkia 757 from the Mombasa runway overrun area, it would have automatically and immediately streaked inside one of the 757âs irresistible orifices, and blown the entire engine pod off the wing with its powerful HE warhead.

U.S. aid to Israel has cost U.S. taxpayers $140 billion, according to the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs (WRMEA). Of this amount some $50 billion has been in interest payments on the borrowed funds that have been given to Israel. The total cost per Israeli is about $25,000 according to WRMEA, which told AFP that these figures, not the latest or most complete, are probably much higher today. For a country supposedly so divided along ideological lines, the amount of agreement on this one point is truly remarkable. The John Birch Society, the Green Party, the right-wing Newsmax, left-Clintonite David Corn, anti-abortion activists, left-neocon Christopher Hitchens â whose fatwa against Kissinger is well-known â and right-neocon Jonah Goldberg all agree. As Goldberg put it on CNN, Kissinger "just doesn't seem to me to be the right guy at the right time." They include, but are not limited to, the chemical-electrical activity of the brain, heart, and peripheral nervous system, the signals sent from the cortex region of the brain to other parts of our body, the tiny hair cells in the inner ear that process auditory signals, and the light-sensitive retina and cornea of the eye that process visual activity.[2] We are on the threshold of an era in which these data processors of the human body may be manipulated or debilitated. Examples of unplanned attacks on the body's data-processing capability are well-documented... Defending friendly and targeting adversary data-processing capabilities of the body appears to be an area of weakness in the US approach to information warfare theory, a theory oriented heavily toward systems data-processing and designed to attain information dominance on the battlefield. Or so it would appear from information in the open, unclassified press. This US shortcoming may be a serious one, since the capabilities to alter the data- processing systems of the body already exist. A recent edition of U.S. News and World Report highlighted several of these "wonder weapons" (acoustics, microwaves, lasers) and noted that scientists are "searching the electromagnetic and sonic spectrums for wavelengths that can affect human behavior."[3] A recent Russian military article offered a slightly different slant to the problem, declaring that "humanity stands on the brink of a psychotronic war" with the mind and body as the focus. That article discussed Russian and international attempts to control the psycho-physical condition of man and his decisionmaking processes by the use of VHF-generators, "noiseless cassettes," and other technologies. An entirely new arsenal of weapons, based on devices designed to introduce subliminal messages or to alter the body's psychological and data-processing capabilities, might be used to incapacitate individuals. These weapons aim to control or alter the psyche, or to attack the various sensory and data-processing systems of the human organism. In both cases, the goal is to confuse or destroy the signals that normally keep the body in equilibrium. This article examines energy-based weapons, psychotronic weapons, and other developments designed to alter the ability of the human body to process stimuli. One consequence of this assessment is that the way we commonly use the term "information warfare" falls short when the individual soldier, not his equipment, becomes the target of attack. Information Warfare Theory and the Data-Processing Element of Humans In the United States the common conception of information warfare focuses primarily on the capabilities of hardware systems such as computers, satellites, and military equipment which process data in its various forms. According to Department of Defense Directive S-3600.1 of 9 December 1996, information warfare is defined as "an information operation conducted during time of crisis or conflict to achieve or promote specific objectives over a specific adversary or adversaries." US Army Field Manual 101-5-1, Operational Terms and Graphics (released 30 September 1997), defines information warfare as "actions taken to achieve information superiority by affecting a hostile's information, information based-processes, and information systems, while defending one's own information, information processes, and information systems." The same manual defines information operations as a "continuous military operation within the military information environment that enables, enhances, and protects friendly forces' ability to collect, process, and act on information to achieve an advantage across the full range of military operations. The nature of this new state, the process of its establishment and its eventual relation to Israel represent awesome challenges. Peaceful relations between theses two states will not happen unless there is grassroot reconciliation. But there cannot be grassroot reconciliation unless past wrongs are acknowledged. One wrong that has been ignored for far too long is the plight of Jews from Arab countries. Few political leaders in Israel or the Arab world acknowledge that the number of Jews who were forced to leave Arab countries, 856,000, surpassed the number of Palestinians who were ousted or fled the newly formed State of Israel, 650,000. As almost half the Jewish citizens of Israel, together with their descendants, are from Arab countries, any peace effort must, of necessity, acknowledge this exodus. We suggest that to acknowledge the story of the Jewish uprooting from Arab countries can facilitate reconciliation, as it shows that there was forced migration and claims of restitution on both sides. Jews from Arab countries are angry and hurt, and they object to a reconciliation that does not include their own heritage and history. They express their frustrations by voting for right-wing parties who promise them recognition, although they are ideologically and traditionally neither extreme right nor extreme left. Their intransigence toward their Palestinian neighbors and the establishment of a Palestinian state is a touchstone in reconciliation. Putting their claims in the balance could enhance the promotion of the establishment of a Palestinian state. During the 1947 U.N. debates, the head of the Egyptian delegation warned that the lives of a million Jews in Muslim countries will be jeopardized by the establishment of the Jewish state. The chairman of the Palestine Arab Higher Executive, Haj Amin el-Husseini, told that body: If a Jewish state were established in Palestine, the position of the Jews in the Arab countries would become very precarious... Governments have always been unable to prevent mob excitement and violence. Indeed, soon after partition, riots broke out throughout the Arab world. Jewish homes, shops and synagogues were burned and looted; hundreds of Jews were murdered, thousands were imprisoned and many were deprived of their citizenship. Jews in Arab countries were confronted with a political and social climate of unbearable hostility. Although many had been prestigious members of their country of birth, they were removed from government agencies and their admission to public office was severely restricted. They became hated outcasts in their own land, terrorized, imprisoned and often banished. Where once Jewish communities flourished and thrived, as in Iraq and Egypt, their traces have been erased, as they were compelled to leave and abandon centuries of established culture and tradition. The outline of a lasting settlement or at least absence of hostilities is becoming clearer. The vision includes a full Arab recognition of Israel's legitimacy and not another colonial enterprise to be tolerated momentarily like the Frankish kingdom of Jerusalem. Other considerations include the establishment of a politically viable Palestinian state, the rollback of Jewish settlements, the termination of Palestinian and Arab incitement to hatred and terrorism, the full acceptance and integration within Israeli society of its Arab citizens and the indemnification of Palestinian and Jewish refugees. Because of deep-rooted mistrust, the comfort zone within which both parties can negotiate is at present non-existent. Deep societal changes have to occur before political leaders have room for negotiation. Regrettably, one of the lapses in the Oslo process has been the absence of avenues for reconciliation at the community level. Fortunately, both Palestinian and Jewish refugee communities are familiar with Sulh, the Middle Eastern rituals of reconciliation . Sulh rituals, used to resolve long-standing vendettas, incorporate cultural elements and stress the link between the psychological and political dimensions of reconciliation. It is high time that emphasis in the peace process be redirected to community leaders and away from top-down conflict-resolution processes. Community leaders in the civic, religious, education and media realms need to assume their responsibility in pursuing reconciliation. They must acknowledge explicitly the legitimacy of their opponent's claim and commit themselves to rebuilding the image

They are everywhere, both in front of the curtain -Cheney, Rumsfeld, Powell, et al.- and behind it -Bush, Sr., James Baker, Henry Kissinger, and God only knows who else. However, what these men truly represent is no joke at all. Behind the smokescreen of patriotism, national security and ideology, they are driven by just one motive: greed. Every single one of these players is a politician for reasons of expediency (power can buy more power). First and foremost, they are corporate tycoons whose primary goal is to advance the cause of corporations. Each one is worth millions and each one is now in a position to engineer policies that will insure they will ultimately be worth millions more. These policies are now in the process of being pushed forward, and have so far being met with an astonishing lack of resistance. This may be because many Americans, including some Congress members, are too young to recall the true nature of the Cold War era. It may also be that some have simply failed to make themselves sufficiently informed on the nation's political history. It is impossible to believe that anyone armed with the facts would fail to see the ugly template that is now being forced down over the face of the nation. This article presents a chunk of political history that we hope will serve as a cautionary tale. It clearly exemplifies what the political dinosaurs now in charge of our nation are all about, how they operated in the past, and how they still hope to operate. The main figure, Henry Kissinger, personifies to a T the snake-like combination of unscrupulousness and superficial charm that characterizes all of these players, from Bush, Sr. to G.W. The setting, Indonesia, personifies all areas of Earth where any natural resources may be left for a greedy few to exploit in the name of patriotism and national security, be it Africa, the Amazon, Ukraine, or northern Alaska. An Opportunist's Dream Come True Indonesia has long been a dream come true for opportunists (until this century they were called explorers). With its 17,000 islands sprinkled across the equator in the South Pacific atop a zone of tectonic upheaval, it is a land of incredible biodiversity and dramatic landscapes. Among its main islands are Sumatra, Borneo, Java, Timor (East and West), and Bali (of South Pacific fame). Its forests and mountains are treasure chests of exotic plants and animals, while its human population is just as diverse -as recently as the 1980s, an estimated 250 different languages were spoken there. The first westerners to exploit the region were the Portuguese (although the Dutch had a smaller settlement earlier). In the 17th century, the Portuguese began to mine the forests for spices while dominating the natives with a heavy hand. These fragrant exports earned the region the name of the Spice Islands. Since then, this land, whose native inhabitants in some regions have lineages extending back as much as one million years, has been the focus of a greedy tug-of-war between different foreign powers and between these powers and the Indonesian native peoples. Gold aside, no Indonesian resources have been at the center of more collective strife, bloodshed, and environmental damage than oil and natural gas. After World War II, Indonesia made a determined stand for its autonomy. By 1950, they had thrown off domination by the Japanese (who had commandeered the oil and liquid natural gas supplies during the war), then pushed away the control of the British and Indian armies, and, finally, the Dutch. The new Indonesian leader Sukarno (not to be confused with the later brutal dictator Suharto) eventually became the country's first president. Sukarno was a visionary who pursued an ideal he called Pancasilo, a state of Indonesian unity in which ethnic and religious tolerance would prevail. It was a dream that was doomed to failure; halfway round the globe, forces were massing that would ultimately topple Sukarno and his government. In the United States, after World War II, the age of the automobile had dawned. The Bush family has also accommodated the demands of Cuban exile hardliners in exchange for electoral and financial support, the book suggests. Last year, after September 11, while the justice department announced a sweep of terrorist suspects, Cubans convicted of terrorist offences were being released from US jails with the consent of the Bush administration, according to the book, Cuba Confidential: Love and Vengeance in Miami and Havana, by Ann Louise Bardach, the award-winning investigative journalist who has covered Cuban and Miami politics for the New York Times and Vanity Fair. The Bush family connections go back to 1984 when Jeb Bush began a close association with Camilo Padreda, a former intelligence officer with the Batista dictatorship overthrown by Fidel Castro. Jeb Bush was then the chairman of the Dade county Republican party and Padreda its finance chairman. Padreda had earlier been indicted on a $500,000 (£320,000) embezzlement charge along with a fellow exile, Hernandez Cartaya, but the charges were dropped, reportedly after the CIA stated that Cartaya had worked for them. Padreda later pleaded guilty to defrauding the housing and urban development department of millions of dollars during the 1980s. The president's younger brother was also on the payroll in the 80s of the prominent Cuban exile Miguel Recarey, who had earlier assisted the CIA in attempts to assassinate President Castro. Recarey, who ran International Medical Centres (IMC), employed Jeb Bush as a real estate consultant and paid him a $75,000 fee for finding the company a new location, although the move never took place, which raised questions at the time. Jeb Bush did, however, lobby the Reagan/Bush administration vigorously and successfully on behalf of Recarey and IMC. I want to be very wealthy, Jeb Bush told the Miami News when questioned during that period. In 1985, Jeb Bush acted as a conduit on behalf of supporters of the Nicaraguan contras with his father, then the vice-president, and helped arrange for IMC to provide free medical treatment for the contras. Recarey was later charged with massive medicare fraud but fled the US before his trial and is now a fugitive. Jeb Bush sealed his popularity with the Cuban exile community by acting as campaign manager for another prominent Cuban-American, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, when she ran successfully for Congress. George Bush Sr famously appeared with her during her campaign in Miami declaring: I am certain in my heart I will be the first American president to step foot on the soil of a free and independent Cuba. She has since lobbied successfully for the release of several exiles convicted of terrorist offences held in US jails but who now live freely in Miami. Most controversially, at the request of Jeb, Mr Bush Sr intervened to release the convicted Cuban terrorist Orlando Bosch from prison and then granted him US residency. According to the justice department in George Bush Sr's administration, Bosch had participated in more than 30 terrorist acts. He was convicted of firing a rocket into a Polish ship which was on passage to Cuba. He was also implicated in the 1976 blowing-up of a Cubana plane flying to Havana from Venezuela in which all 73 civilians on board were killed. CIA memorandums strongly suggest, according to Bardach's book, that Bosch was one of the conspirators, and quotes the then secretary of state, Henry Kissinger, as writing that the US government had been planning to suggest Bosch's deportation before Cubana airlines crash took place for his suspected involvement in other terrorist acts and violation of his parole. Bosch's release, often referred to in the US media as a pardon, was the result of pressure brought by hardline Cubans in Miami, with Jeb Bush serving as their point man. Bosch now lives in Miami and remains unrepentant about his militant activities, according to Bardach. In July this year, Jeb Bush nominated Raoul Cantero, the grandson of Batista, as a Florida supreme court judge despite his lack of experience. Mr Cantero had previously represented Bosch and acted as his spokesman, once describing Bosch on Miami radio as a great Cuban patriot. Other Cuban exiles involved in terrorist acts, Jose Dionisio Suarez and Virgilio Paz Romero, who carried out the 1976 assassination of the Chilean diplomat Orlando Letelier in Washington, have also been released by the current Bush administration. As a result, the bill to American taxpayers for the Persian Gulf War was about $7 billion, a fraction of its cost. Although it is difficult to predict how much Americans would pay for a new war with Iraq, one fact seems indisputable: It will be many times more than the cost of the last war, if only because other countries are much more reluctant to share the burden. Informal estimates by congressional staff and Washington think tanks of the costs of an invasion of Iraq and a postwar occupation of the country have been in the range of $100 billion to $200 billion. If the fighting is protracted, and Iraqi President Saddam Hussein blows up his country's oil fields, most economists believe the indirect costs of the war could be much greater, reverberating through the U.S. economy for many years. The 1991 Gulf War led to a brief spike in oil prices and a fall in consumer confidence that helped tip the country into a recession that cost President George H.W. Bush his chances of reelection. Despite the high economic and political stakes, there has been no equivalent of Operation Tin Cup this time around, and the current administration has refused to engage in public debate about the likely costs of a new war. If we can plan a war, we should also be planning a way to pay for the war, said Rep. John M. Spratt Jr. (S.C.), the ranking Democrat on the House Budget Committee. Last time, we were able to slough the costs off on other countries. This time, we will have to absorb most of these costs ourselves. Someone ought to be asking questions about the impact on the budget. A White House official, speaking on condition of not being identified, said it would be premature to talk about the costs of a war with Iraq because President Bush has not decided on the use of military force. He added that unofficial estimates of the cost of war had to be weighed against the potentially incalculable political, diplomatic and economic costs of permitting Hussein to develop and spread weapons of mass destruction. Using different methodologies, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office and staff for the Democrat minority on the House Budget Committee have concluded that a short, decisive war involving the deployment of 250,000 U.S. troops could cost between $44 billion and $60 billion. This is significantly less than the cost of the 1991 war, which came to nearly $80 billion in 2002 dollars, reflecting the fewer numbers of troops involved. A protracted war, by contrast, could cost upward of $100 billion. The direct military costs of a new war will likely be less than in 1991 under most scenarios, but the postwar occupation costs will be considerably greater, most experts believe. In Kuwait, most U.S. troops were able to pack up and go home in a few weeks. In Iraq, a large international military presence will be required for many years to provide security for a post-Hussein government and avert a civil war between ethnic factions, which include Kurds in the north, Sunnis in the center and Shiites in the south. It's a no-brainer that this is going to cost us more than the last time, said Michael O'Hanlon, a military economist at the Brookings Institution. In addition to the nominal price tag for the operation, you will need a large stabilization force in there for a number of years. Anything else will not be strategically viable. Extrapolating from similar peacekeeping operations in Bosnia and Kosovo, O'Hanlon estimates that the United States is likely to initially spend between $15 billion and $20 billion a year for its share of a multinational stabilization force for Iraq. Depending on how long the stabilization force remains in Iraq, the cost to the American taxpayer could be between $50 billion and $100 billion. His calculations are based on an assumption that U.S. allies will pick up two-thirds of the cost of the stabilization force. Adding the costs of a stabilization force to the costs of an invasion brings the total to between $100 billion and $200 billion. This is in line with an upper-bracket estimate by White House economics adviser Lawrence B. Lindsey in an interview with the Wall Street Journal in September. The White House subsequently distanced the administration from Lindsey's comments, saying they were not based on any official study. There were a number of notable features of imperialism during this period: the scramble among the European powers to divide up Africa; heightened competition in Europe for each others markets; the growing German challenge to London as the core of the international money market. At the same time, the United States was attempting to enter the competition for markets in Europe and was developing its own colonies and spheres of influence in Latin America and Asia. The primary causes of the First World War included both the bitter competition among the great powers for colonies and markets and the German attempt to eliminate Britain as the center of international money and commodity markets. The period after the First World War represented a second phase of modern imperialism. The Treaty of Versailles was a process of the winners dividing the gains, with a unitary goalthe defeat of Bolshevism. Thorstein Veblen wrote that wiping Bolshevism off the map was not simply a secret clause in the Treaty of Versailles, it was the very parchment of the Treaty (Essays in Our Changing Order, 1934, p. 464). However, the plan to isolate and bring down the Soviet Union was interrupted by the Great Depression and by the Second World War, which developed out of the struggles of the axis powers, Germany, Italy, and Japan, to carve out larger spaces within the world system. A third phase of imperialism emerged after the Second World War. During the war, the United States, as the new hegemonic state within the capitalist world, had developed a plan for gaining control of what it considered to be the strategic centers of the world economyan ambition that was then only limited by the existence of the Soviet sphere of influence. Writing in this space in November 1981, Noam Chomsky described the formation of U.S. geopolitical strategy in this period as follows: The general framework of thinking within which American foreign policy has evolved since the Second World War is best described in the planning documents produced during that war by the State Department planners and the Council for Foreign Relations who met for a six-year period in the War and Peace Studies Program, 193945. They knew, certainly by 194142, that the war was going to end with the United States in a position of enormous global dominance. The question arose: How do we organize the world? They drew up a concept known as Grand Area Planning, where the Grand Area is defined as the area which, in their terms, was strategically necessary for world control. The geopolitical analysis behind it attempted to work out which areas of the world have to be openopen to investment, open to the repatriation of profits. Open, that is, to domination by the United States. In order for the United States economy to prosper without internal changes (a crucial point which comes through in all of the discussions in this period), without any redistribution of income or power or modification of structures, the War and Peace Program determined that the minimum area strategically necessary for world control included the entire Western hemisphere, the former British empire which they were in the process of dismantling, and the Far East. That was the minimum, and the maximum was the universe. Somewhere between the two came the concept of the Grand Areaand the task of how to organize it in terms of financial institutions and planning. This is the framework that remained constant throughout the postwar period. The liberation of Europes colonies and the defeat of Japans ambitions in the Pacific allowed U.S. capital, backed up by U.S. military power, to begin to penetrate markets that were previously inaccessible. While the Bretton Woods Agreement provided a new economic framework for the imperialist powers, U.S. military might and covert operations were projected around the globe with increasing frequencywars in Korea and Vietnam, the

Kissinger's defenders, of whom the most surprising is the longtime Kissinger critic William Safire, are not terribly convincing when they argue that Kissinger will do a good job because he is a better man than many give him credit for. (Safire's new line is that although Kissinger used to be a bad man, he's evolved into a good man.) But Chatterbox thinks it's still possible that Kissinger mayemphasize mayprove a smart choice to run the commission precisely because he's the same Machiavellian schemer he always was. The 9/11 committee carries great potential to become a vehicle for Kissinger's revenge against his bitterest bureaucratic foe. That would be Donald Rumsfeld. Almost everybody has forgotten the story of how Rumsfeld kneecapped Kissinger when he was Gerald Ford's defense secretary, but Jason Vest documented it last year in the American Prospect: As the 1976 election approached, a Kissinger ally was not the best thing to be. Ford was running scared from archconservative Ronald Reagan and his supporters, who held that two of the Ford administration's higher profilesKissinger and Vice President Nelson Rockefellerwere too liberal. Rumsfeld began to chip away at Kissinger's access and public image. Some of Kissinger's partisans in the press corps found Rumsfeld's campaign against the K so heavy-handed they virtually outed him as Kissinger's nemesis, by making Rummy's identity as a Kissinger-bashing source obvious. In early December 1975, Ford and Kissinger embarked on a Pacific Rim swing. Afterward, Kissinger was going to head to Moscow, hoping to conclude negotiations for SALT II. En route to Jakarta from Hong Kong, however, Rumsfeld cabled Air Force One, rebuking Kissinger for even considering a Moscow trip without consulting Rumsfeld and others. Kissinger's Russia sojourn was nixed. Then, on December 6, columnists Rowland Evans and Robert Novak reported that a number of Ford advisers were "outraged" at Kissinger's "drafting top secret proposals for major concessions to Moscow." The column implied that only one man could save the republic from the betrayal of giving away the nuclear farm: Donald Rumsfeld. According to Vest, Kissinger now claims he has buried the hatchet with Rumsfeld. But Kissinger never struck Chatterbox as a let-bygones-be-bygones kind of guy. Now that he's chairman of the 9/11 commission, Kissinger will have the opportunity to assess the level of scrutiny the Pentagon gave during the first nine months of the Bush administration to a possible attack by al-Qaida. This theme has gone largely unexplored during the past year, while the screw-ups of the FBI and the CIA have been studied in some depth. It's not hard to imagine Kissinger deciding that Rumsfeld ought to have diverted some of the attention he lavished prior to 9/11 on missile defense (which would have been useless to defend the World Trade Center) and bureaucratic reform within the Pentagon (a dead letter since 9/11) to going after a terrorist organization that was well known to be bent on killing Americans. Kissinger may be encouraged to follow this path by CIA director George Tenet, who for some time has been fighting a nasty turf war with the Pentagon. The two agencies bickered over who should run the war in Afghanistan, and the CIA largely won out. According to Bob Woodward's new book, Bush at War, Rumsfeld resented this. More recently, in assessing the military threat posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq, the Pentagon (or rather, Rumsfeld and his hawkish deputy Paul Wolfowitz) have won out. According to an article by Robert Dreyfuss in the Dec. 16 American Prospect, the CIA (which is more skeptical about the threat) resents this. Rumsfeld is currently preoccupied with creating an intelligence office at the Pentagon that could further displace the CIA. But if Kissinger can establish that Rumsfeld is already mismanaging the vast intelligence resources he presides overthe National Security Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency, etc.Rummy's chance to shove Tenet aside may disappear. This is all absurdly speculative, of course, and it's far from clear that the public interest would really be served should Kissinger and Tenet gang up against Rumsfeld.

But many climate experts who will attend say talking about more research will simply delay decisions that need to be made now to avert serious harm from global warming. President Bush has called for a decade of research before anything beyond voluntary measures is used to stem tailpipe and smokestack emissions of heat-trapping gases that scientists say are contributing to global warming. When you're speeding down the road in your car, if you've got to turn around and go the other direction, the first thing is to slow down, then stop, then turn, said David K. Garman, the assistant secretary of energy for energy efficiency and renewable energy. But many climate experts say the perennial need for more study can no longer justify further delays in emission cuts. Waiting 10 years to decide is itself a decision which may remove from the table certain options for stabilizing concentrations later, said Dr. Michael Oppenheimer, a professor of geosciences at Princeton. For example, under today's rate of emissions growth, he and other experts say that certain losses are already probable, including dwindling of snow-dependent water supplies and global die-offs of vulnerable ecosystems like coral reefs, alpine meadows and certain coastal marshes. Nevertheless, administration officials say further research is still necessary because scientists cannot say exactly what effects human activity will have on global climate and how dangerous they will be. It is worth taking the time to conduct more analysis at least to clarify the balance of environmental and economic risks, they say. Science rarely gives enough information to narrow policy choices to a single option, but it can clear away some of the underbrush, said Dr. John H. Marburger III, assistant to the president for science and technology. Some energy and climate experts have run new kinds of analyses showing that there is still time to avoid the worst effects of climate change while also limiting economic costs involved with an abrupt shift from fossil fuels, the main source of the warming gases. The meeting, involving hundreds of experts, will be the biggest public airing of arguments in many years. Most scientists concur on the basics. Atmospheric levels of the heat-trapping gases, mainly carbon dioxide from burning coal and oil, have increased by more than a third since the start of the Industrial Revolution, and there is wide agreement that they will probably double from preindustrial concentrations by the end of the century, driven by energy demands of developing countries. International and American panels of experts have concluded that these gases have caused most of the warming trend over the last 50 years. But there is still a wide range of projections indicating how much warmer things may get, how storm and drought patterns may respond and what the effects will be on ecosystems, agriculture and health. These uncertainties are unlikely to be dispelled soon. But many climate experts say that some effects can reasonably be predicted and that prudence calls for more action now. Dr. Warren M. Washington, a senior scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, likened the situation to the debate over smoking's link to cancer. Even with smoking, it's still basically a statistical thing, said Dr. Washington, who is chairman of the National Science Board, a panel that advises the White House and Congress. But vested interests do not want to take action based on early indications, and with climate early indications is what we have. If greenhouse gas concentrations double, climate experts expect substantial disruptions of ecosystems and water supplies, coastal damage as sea levels rise and intensified drought and downpour cycles. Even more calamitous surprises could lie in store, including disruptions in the Atlantic Ocean currents that help warm Europe. The experts concede that they cannot say exactly what may happen, or when. Also, changes will probably occur slowly - sea levels rising by millimeters a year, say - so there will be no one event to prompt people to choose a fuel-saving hybrid car over a gas-guzzling S.U.V. But the warming will have enormous momentum, they say. Unlike soot or sulfur pollution, which falls out of the atmosphere within days or weeks, molecules of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases can circulate for a century or more. As a result, scientists say, allowing things to go on as they are is like making minimum payments on a credit card while still using it: the balance grows and grows. by Joann S. Lublin and Bruce Orwall (re-typed below) "To Buttress Governance,
Disney Mulls Post of Presiding Director." Heres the revealing paragraph:
"Its unclear which Disney director would assume the role, but a possible
choice is George Mitchell, a former U.S. senator and senate majority leader.
Insiders say Mr. Mitchell is well respected by other board members, and he
recently was named co-chairman of the boards corporate governance and
nominating committee. Under the new Disney guidelines, Mr. Mitchell and his law
firm recently severed their business ties with Disney."
Nowhere does the article mention that George Mitchell was just named Vice
Chairman of the September 11 Independent Commission with Heinrich Kissinger
named Chairman by George W. Bush. Nor does the article mention the investments
that Saudi Prince Alwaleed has in Walt Disney Corp., and significantly, in
Euro-Disney. Meanwhile, we continue to ponder that George Mitchells law firm,
while he was a Director of Disney, served as Disneys legal counsel and no one
seemed to think there was a problem with this arrangement!
So now, with Henry Kissinger to protect the Saudis (his intimates in
Khashoggi and Iran-Contra schemes) and George Mitchell with homage to Saudi
Prince Alwaleed (who with the entire Saudi royal family is being sued for their
role in September 11) serving as Vice Chairman, we have little recourse but to
term the new commission "The Saudi Dependent Commission."
We can also view this maneuver by Eisner as the old Genovese "two step." If
you recall history, in 1946, Lucky Luciano placed the jewish mob and its key
financial genius, Meyer Lansky, under the Genovese crime family for reporting,
profit sharing, and protection purposes. If one reads Michael Eisners own
biography released in early 1998 ("Work in Progress"), his father had been named
specifically by Nelson Rockefeller to become the first director of HUD in 1954,
a position he held for 20 years and which earned HUD and HUD Puerto Rico the
dubious distinction of being thoroughly corrupt, never able to explain how it
had spent its money. Meanwhile, Nelsons covert affiliates kept very busy with
Meyer Lansky seeing that arms were delivered to Ben Gurian in Israel. And
Rockefeller nurtured the young Henry Kissinger, one of his proteges.
As to Mikey, well he gained his position at Disney after a tumultuous "out
the door" routine with Paramount. He, his side-kick Rich Frank, and a bevvy of
others from Paramount days were made kings at Walt Disney Corp. in 1984 when the
infamous Bass brothers took control of Walt Disney Corp. via their Arvida deal,
and began dictating terms, including bringing along Eisner.
Mikey hasnt proven to be the best at selecting management. Here are a few of
his foibles: Rich Frank stunned Hollywood and suddenly resigned in March 1995.
What wasnt revealed but is clear from court documents is that Frank was
involved in an illegal winery conversion scheme in Napa Valley in 1991 - 1993;
and in the same county his side-kick was used to bring false litigation against
a noted Hollywood personality whose ratings caused those of Disney Channel to
plummet every eve during prime time. Frank was even able to rig a jury trial
using an unqualified and unknown judge to conduct a jury trial that was a
complete farce. Out went Frank when he fuel quietly hit the fan.
