Massive quantities of sulfur dioxide boiling up and mixing with water; S02+H20=H2S03 or thereabouts. The color would be right, and its effects on marine life would be consistent with accounts, but its presence would be obvious. That, and a dilute slurry of sulfuric acid wouldn't effect cloud formations. - maybe moved across the gulf of mexico after the eruptions fell to the ocean there ?? Whatever it is could still be volcanic, but right now it doesn't look that way. I can't think of any naturally occurring combination of chemicals or events which could account for the entire range of phenomena in this instance. Remembr the little sea animals used these jet streams in the waters to travel.when the lemmings disappear in the water they do not drowned - for they enter into these currents and are taken far away. Even sea turtles use them. But suddenly they have found a lot of these sea animals who travel no doubt around the world in these streams dead or dying Think they are heating it upand now I still remember the project where Russians wanated to put black soot on the snow to do with this weather program.black would keep light out of the seas, right and then would the fish die and plant life etc. be effected. So Bermuda Triangle - what a crock that was for this was all about Weather Modification but people would rather like fruit cakes believe in UFO's and devils in the sea. -Caveat Lector- Andrew remember we were warned the year of la Nina and el Nino and I believe they heat up these streams some way so what if they like Mt St. Helene set off something under there with same effect.
