delay problem, but has some knock on effects like sometimes causing 100% CPU
usage with heavyweight display managers. A better solution is being
investigated, and any ideas as to why the XDMCP state machine (or whatever)

AFAICT there is no release announcement for 6.8.99.901-1, and there are several
bug reports requiring manual intervention or downgrades. In fact I am
experiencing lockups myself, and had to downgrade.
