Here's how i fixed the issue. I created a custom darktable.gtkrc in my
config dir where i tweak the scrollbars:
include "/usr/share/darktable/darktable.gtkrc"
# Make scrollbars more attractive
style "overlay-scrollbar-style"
{
GtkScrollbar::slider_width = 10
GtkScrollbar::has-forward-stepper

I have a question/suggestion about the vertical scrollbars in the side
panels. Is it possible to hide tem completely? I, personally, dont like the
way they look, especially now that they are always visible and i always
scroll using the mouse wheel.
Maybe a GUI config setting to show them
