Guesstimate for food based on personal experience are:

breakfast: 2 USD
lunch: 4 USD
dinner: 4 USD

to all local team members, please help to update this price.

We can get picture from NCTU division of housing services [0].

For accessibility, we shall reserve floor one for it, and I think mwei

Will check it, but I think venue will be closed if it is typhoon day.

If there is a typhoon in Hsinchu, it will be a very strong typhoon
because Hsinchu tends to be the last region to declare typhoon day. We
shall not go out.

We probable can do these in accomodation.

Hmmm... well, if we had a time machine, we could go back and make sure
the 1st DebConf was in 2001, so that the 18th DebConf could be in 2018.
But, the 1st DebConf was in 2000, and that's not going to change.

The website doesn't have to mention that this year is the 19th DebConf,
it's not a terribly important piece of information. But, I hope that
we'll make a big deal of the 20th DebConf in 2019, that's a notable
anniversary.

debian single sign-on, alioth certificate creation or/and move to salsa ?

2018-02-07 Thread shirish शिरीष
Dear all,

I just discovered the call to proposals have been announced. While I
did make a new certificate manually on alioth as the old one was about
to be expired.

I did see and have also made an account on salsa.debian.org but
haven't been able to discover if semi-automated certification is also
on salsa cards or not.

I do see that salsa/gitlab has provision to add ssh and gpg keys in
account preferences but nothing about certificate creation.

https://salsa.debian.org/profile/preferences

https://sso.debian.org/

still points to alioth.debian.org for certification which works for
now. Are there plans to keep alioth for SSO for this debconf cycle or
are the certificates going to moved on to salsa sooner than later.

It is possible there is a roadmap somewhere I just don't know about
it. I did see and notice the migration of lists from alioth to
lists.debian.org .

Look forward to having some understanding about it.

I did look at
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/alioth-staff-replacement/Week-of-Mon-20180101/000110.html
which tells some of the steps being undertaken but no comment on the
SSO service. Maybe it will happen 2, 2.5 years down the line.

Can somebody who knows tell us what if any plans are there for the SSO service ?

If Debian would start to favor proprietary software, platforms or
services we would not be Debian anymore. Our community knows where to
find us and we don't target random people on Facebook. There are Linux
outreach events that do this and may have to find the needy where they
gather. We have dedicated outreach to enlarge the community but this is
(and needs to be) more selective than a Facebook page with a "computer
problems fixed for free" banner.

Remember, we don't even charge an entrance fee. We do not want as many
people as possible. We want the right people. Not following email lists,
IRC or the Linux / FLOSS press but needing Facebook to find out about
DebConf is probably a counter-indication to the people we look for.

The same is (somewhat) true for sponsors. Here more noise would help
them (and that's - I guess - why we have some (semi- to unofficial)
Twitter accounts) but it's a fine line to walk and we have a team
dedicated to this difficult task of communicating Debian-style (i.e.
adhering to the Debian principles and still reaching target audiences).

Dear all,

I am ok with posting content on the facebook page but need somebody
who has an eye for design to make the fb page (should be attractive) .

Some ideas for the page are easy -

a. Debconf 18 logo (do we have the logo in svg as the one on
debconf18.debconf.org looks quite small).
b. When, where and dates
c. Sponsors with sponsor labels and backlinks to their own fb pages
(if there are)
d. Maybe a link to meettaiwan page as well
e. News as and when things evolve - A tentative dates for cfp (call
for proposals) perhaps and events beyond that.
f. An FAQ - somethings which we could use from couple of years ago and
add to it.

I am willing to make a page but it would be like a 5 year old has done
it. I would recommend having somebody from either design or UX to do
it. But if people want somebody to initiate the page, I'm willing to
it provided I'm given the go-ahead and have some support as haven't
done anything like this. The time overheads itself would probably be
nightmare (i.e. if it does generate some interest. )

One major concern though is from what little I remember, shared logins
were lost/barred couple of years ago. So if more than one people wants
to work on the page, the only option is business.facebook.com

I dunno if we want to go down that path.

Also we would have to consider as a community facebook terms and
conditions as well.

The only way I see it would be to have a group of people who would be
willing to support and improve the page. One idea which might be
workable or not is to have the debian (CC-by-SA 3.0 unported) logo as
a transparent background throughout the page.

There is also some sort of search functionality that would need to be
on the page

There are also facebook's terms and conditions, how do we work with that ?

https://www.facebook.com/page_guidelines.php along with others and
what would it mean for our own take on centralized social media
constructs.

One other idea is to have a minimal page with the content above and
give a prominent link to diaspora pod or some other social media site
with whom the community is more ok with.

Thoughts, ideas and feedback welcome.
