I built an i18n-enabled set of boot-floppies for my alpha, and they seem to
work OK. There isn't much space on the root disk for languages but I was
able to fit en, de, pt, ja which is probably better than nothing.

Submitter, can you try a more recent build of boot-floppies and see if the
bug still happens? I can't see anything in the current code that would
cause /target/etc/resolv.conf to get linked to ../tmp/resolv.conf.
Also, are you configuring the network before or after
reassign 126001 superformat

This seems like a bug in superformat itself.
When creating a bootdisk, the installer tries to format the disk with
superformat. This program fails on my SparcStation5 (Input/Output error).
fdformat does work, though.

The no device name for disk ... partition .. (skipped) message seems to be
triggered if the kernel hasn't managed to re-read the partition table off
the disk (and hence /proc/partitions is out of date).
The code in partition_config.c goes to some lengths to unmount and swapoff
appropriately
