I still get the error message that k3b cannot eject the CD. But it is now a
messagebox and it says that I should eject the CD manually. I did and I could
start to burn the CD. Its no problem for me to eject the CD manually if I can
continue the burn process after that.

Ok, I blame myself for not uncovering the culprit before: the directory
/lib64 was not a symlink to /lib but an older copy of it (with glibc
version 2.3.5). No one trouble with the upgrade after replacing it.
