Pulseaudio is not the problem. The original bug report was posted after a clean install of Bullseye. I subsequently performed a simple upgrade from Buster to Bullseye (NOT "full-upgrade") and Pulseaudio was working fine. Both front panel microphone and OSS sound output were working.
