loaded a bunch of aliases which I assume came
from my Yahoo address book. So I went online
and found the entry with the old phone number
and changed it there, saved the entry, quit
pidgin than started it again, same damn old
phone number showed up.

worked, I found the contact with the old phone
on an alternate Yahoo account I was using for

This more closely approximates the old behavior
in that shares for the individual servers are not listed,
just the members of the workgroup:

It appears the patch mentioned above is just a
framework to actually do something to remedy the
situation. Unfortunately it fills the session error
log even faster because it outputs 2 messages every
time there is an XID collision. :(

I filed a separate bug against pulseaudio for that.
Another issue that might have some bearing on this
bug: In trying to stop pulseaudio from autostarting,
I found out that the .desktop file for
'gnome-volume-control-applet' has the following
key in it:
'TryExec=/usr/bin/pulseaudio'
