With Russian locale (LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8) dpkg-query -l has a bit different
header which breaks sed parsing. It always returns ||/, so function
returns 1 even if package is installed.
Executing dpkg-query with LANG=C fixes this

Sorry, haven't done much testing before reporting the bug. The error is
actually in the mplayer and mplayer2 packages from Debian Multimedia, which

Current libass version crashes freetype 2.4.6 when tries to render ASS
subtitles in mplayer or mplayer2. Here is backtrace (sorry, no dbg symbols
