Bug#694513: udev appears to be part of the problem

2012-11-27 Thread M Yudkowsky
I noticed that udev consumed about 100% of (both) CPUs. udevadm monitor prints out an endless series of complaints: KERNEL[142913.259475] add /devices/virtual/bdi/254:7808 (bdi) UDEV [142913.260181] add /devices/virtual/bdi/254:7808 (bdi) KERNEL[142913.260389] add

I've just experienced the same problem, to the extent that I can't even use the xfce window system at all: * pgrep xfwm4 finds no process. From my eyeball of the startup process, xfwm4 starts up and then fails; I've yet to find the log that shows the failure. * None of the windows can be

Bug#640842: New blank session does work

2012-01-09 Thread M Yudkowsky
Using the session and startup settings, I managed to insert the session chooser into the xfce4 startup from the gdm startup manager. By choosing a new, blank session I was able to get xfwm to start. My guess is that some session-related corruption related to a recent update. -- Moshe

2008-05-11 Thread M Yudkowsky
Martin, I replaced xpdf-utils with poppler-utils and printing works just fine with cupsys -5. Are there any other tests I should run? Regards, Moshe -- Moshe Yudkowsky Disaggregate 2952 W Fargo Chicago, IL 60645 USA +1 773 764 8727 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#478248: xpdf-utils prior version does work

2008-04-29 Thread M Yudkowsky
On a lark, I decided to downgrade xpdf-utils from its current version to stable, and now all PDF files print correctly. I want to emphasize that the upgrade to the 1.3.7-5 package of CUPS is when printing stopped working correctly, not the original upgrade to the latest xpdf-utils. It's

Bug#434264: solution for iP1500 problem

2007-10-01 Thread M Yudkowsky
And the answer is: Since the iP1500 printer drivers were converted from rpms via alien, the resulting debians have dependencies that are derived from the system configuration that was present at the time alien was originally run. The fix for this is to install the newer file, in this
