think you misunderstand me. The way I add programs to be
automatically started with the sessions is: Desktop-Settings-Sessions
(gnome-session-properties) and then add them activating the tab Startup
Programs.

Yesterday I tried a purge followed by a reinstallation of alsa-base, but
the bug is still there.

It works after running dpkg-reconfigure linux-sound-base. The big
question is that running it showed that alsa was chosen as sound system
so what change the situation is a mystery. I still have the file showing
the modules
